Title: Sleep Tight X-ers...tomorrow we might be at War...again.
Post by: Tarheel on March 17, 2011, 07:05:06 PM
The UN Security Council just voted to Approve a No-Fly Zone over Libya just before the forces of Khadafi (yeah, I spell it my way...there's 40 spellings out there!) move to crush the Rebels.  This is a big win for the Hildebeast who has been lobbying The ONE to support the Rebels and remove Khadafi from power.

You probably forgot about the Middle-East and North Africa didn't you?  Watching the big explosions in Japan...and basketball...

Here's an excerpt from a FoxNews report, all emphasis is my own:

Quote
U.S. Readying to Help Impose No-Fly Zone in Libya, Officials Say

Published March 17, 2011
FoxNews.com
...
Earlier Thursday, Libya's defense ministry warned that any military action against the Qaddafi regime will be met with retaliatory strikes on air and sea traffic in the Mediterranean region.

Reuters reported that a statement by the regime of Qaddafi broadcast on Libyan television warned that "the Mediterranean basin will face danger not just in the short-term, but also in the long term."

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday that a U.N. no-fly zone over Libya "requires certain actions taken to protect the planes and the pilots, including bombing targets like the Libyan defense systems."

...
Clinton told reporters in Tunisia the specifics of international action against Qaddafi were still being negotiated at the United Nations in New York.

The move comes as Qaddafi forces have made "significant strides" against the rebels in Libya. Qaddafi forces said it would cease military operations on Sunday to give rebels a chance to surrender, without giving further details about the offer, Reuters reported, citing Al Arabiya TV.

The U.S. wants the Security Council to approve planes, troops or ships to stop attacks by Qaddafi on the rebels, according to a diplomat familiar with closed-door negotiations.

...
The Obama administration said it would not act without Security Council authorization...

I thought the Dems were against more "war". I use that term lightly because the last time Gadoofy was faced with American forces, that bitch ran for cover.

This has nothing to do with the topic at hand....only that your spelling of Khadafi reminded me of this video.  Love me some Regan.  Juvenile stuff but funny as hell.  Get to the codes part for the spelling of Quadafi

The One just said that we would not take a "leadership role" in the enforcement of these sanctions.  In other words, this is nothing short of a lot of hot air.  Nothing is going to happen.

The ONE hasn't taken a leadership role in anything since he was Immaculated, even with Obamacare, which was near and dear to his heart.  It was Pelosi and Reid that rammed that through.

Only if they send over some old stuff.  My babies (F22 and JSF) are invincible.  Unless they crash on their own.  Which has been known to happen.  But never shot down.

I will defer to your knowledge on that and hope that the worst doesn't happen.  This nation will go apoplectic with rage (with good reason) if that nut-job, Khadafi, captures one of our men to parade around on al-Arabia and al-Jazeera media sources.

I thought the Raptor got pulled due to budget and feasibility. But a bad mamma jamma it was while it was here. The next gen replacement is badass too but not nearly as good on top end. Although it is more agile in the air.

The raptors that were built and delivered are still going to be used in service.  They are going to end up like the B2's, too valuable to deploy anywhere that we don't want to seriously lay waste to somebody or something.  I've worked on Ares I for NASA, Joint Strike Fighter, Army "stuff", but F22 was the highlight.  That is the most badass thing that has ever been in the air (so far).

I used to get tipped by a buddy of mine when they had cleared a test flight for full afterburner take off when I was in Marietta.  The 2 seat F16 chase plane would get in the air first, circle around and the F22 would start rolling when the F16 realigned with the runway.  The F22 would go vertical under full military power (no burners) and then kick them in when he caught up to the F16 (which was already on full afterburner), pass him like he was standing still and beat him to the ceiling by about a quarter mile.  All while being the 2nd loudest plane I have ever heard (1st was B1, old timer's around the plant said the SR71 was louder too).

There's a reason they are called missiles and not hittiles.  Plus highest priority targets probably got more than one bullet.

It is a sad day when the French are more decisive than the United States in a military action...

No boots on the ground is fine as long as there is hellfire raining from the skies.  But according to some reports I have read and seen, the Pro-Dofus forces were literally hours if not minutes from overrunning the rebel held positions - then Death from the Skies arrived.  Why the HELL did the stupid Fucktard in Chief wait so long?  Calling in airstrikes in support of a fledgling resistance movement seems like a no-brainer, esp when the bad guys are in slow-ass old Soviet reject tanks - talk about a target rich environment.  And the alleged ground to air defense systems are antiquated - our modern day avoidance technology will make this a walk in the park.

Obama could have made a real stand for democracy by helping the rebels even the odds - they have the numbers on the ground but not the air strike capability that the goon squad had.  But by waiting as long as he did, Obama let a lot of people die needlessly.  They did not ask for boots - they asked for help from above.  Thank God they finally got it, after the FRENCH agreed to step up...

You people scare me

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!

NOT that I'm defending The ONE at all, just stating a fact; he was waiting for the UN Security Council to vote on the No-Fly Zone.  The French and Brits were already a go as I understand the situation but they were waiting on The ONE and The ONE was waiting on the UN.  He showed his lack of leadership skillz by stating at a press conference that the US was NOT going to take the lead on this issue in deference to the UN Security Council.

My gut instinct tells me that there will be boots on the ground eventually and I'm not sure that I'm all for that until these 'rebels' have been vetted; you may or may not recall hearing that al-Qaida supports them too (in addition to the Arab League).  This is a very muddy geo-political event with wide-ranging consequences.
