When he stated that he is an "icon and an entertainer" and "what I did in one year, most can't accomplish in their college career". I hope he's ready to be grilled from the inside-out, if not, he'll be eaten alive....regardless how he looks in Under Armour gear. He needs to curb his arrogance a tad, and don't speak in third person.

Jimmy's been watching you. Jimmy likes what he sees.

WHY WEREN'T YOU MORE CAREFUL WITH YOUR DROOL!

Cam isn't the best speaker ever. As usual, folks as re making a lot out of largely meaningless words. Icon? A bit over the top. Sayng he is an entertainer shows a better unerstanding of what the NFL is, and his job in the NFL, than many veterans have.
Cam is doing what most potential 1st round QBs won't. A complete workout at the combine. NFL scouts and personnel folks wont be put off by some cockiness. They expect it. His words are fodder for talk radio and the innerwebs, but if thats as bad as it gets, it won't hurt him at all.
-
Cam sees himself as the next Bo Jackson. The next Deon. The next Herschel. The next Michael Jordan.
All of them were cocky, arrogant, and one step away from looney.
But they backed it up, and honestly, Cam did have one of if not the most dominating performances in college football history.
He's basically allowed to say, "Cam is a demigod like Hercules and all should understand that there is no competition when I step on the field."
Until someone stops him (see high school championships, Blinn NC, and Auburn NC with Heisman trophy and numerous records), he can talk all he wants.

Luck can't say that shit...

So were Ryan Leaf, Jeff George, and Freddie Mitchell (well Freddie wasn't one step away). Unfortunately Cam will bring those names to the minds of GM's also.
I agree with what I heard on Colin Cowherd yesterday though. The teams that care about stuff like this don't need a QB. The teams that do pick early and need a QB (Buffalo and Cincinnati) don't really care about their player's showing some personality.

I won't to read the entire interview and see the context.
EDIT: Actually that should be want, but phuk it.
:haha:

was thinking the same thing.

It was a Peter King interview (which I don't think has a transcript out there). Peter asked him how he saw himself/where he wanted to be and Cam responded with the above quote.
To me the quote is fairly innocuous as a response to a question. If he had just called up Peter and said, "Hey Petey, I'm gonna be an icon/entertainer. K Bye!" that would be different.
-
Guess he held in check as long as he could stand it. I won't tire of the shit talk if he makes a team and can back it up. The worst kind are those that start out well and then start singling out others and laying blame for failure. I generally watched Bo and Deione while tuning them out completely. Highlights reels served me well in those days.

Cowherd and that Maycock fuck throwing dirt at Cam today.
That maycock bastard can fuck a Chinese goat.
-
Is this the same Mark May that does the show with Lou Holtz? I wonder what has turned him against Cam here lately? He was actually sticking up for him during the drama and was one of the few that I noticed that thought AU was going to win the NC.

Cowherd's a front runner. Yesterday he was saying the comments didn't bother him.

Cowherd gets it right much of the time but I guess he woke up with an anti-Cam piss hard.

I saw him at Nana Funks one time.
And this happened.

No, I got caught up in that one a couple of weeks ago. I think its actually Mike May or something like that.

He'll have to wrestle it away from Gayer Evans first.

maybe they could see if the goat has a friend and then London Bridge on them.

Here's the deal...he may can talk like that because of the season he just had, but if he has in his head he is already in NFL stud and carries that attitude on to his new team, it will not sit will with his new teammates. They want the guy to have the mental toughness to be a leader, but he still will be an NFL rookie and there is a limit to the arrogance that those guys will tolerate from a rookie. I actually thought calling himself an icon was a bit self absorbed myself and cringed when I heard it, but now he better make sure he backs all that swagger up or he will be looked at as the next Ryan Leaf. I think he will make a great NFL QB, but I admit that comments I have heard him make about himself does make me wonder if his ego has gotten a bit too big. Fame has gotten the best of many people.
I could not care less about what Cowherd says. Never liked that guy. I have seen him do a 180 way too many times on a person. He reminds me a lot of Jim Rome, he will try to act all cool, like Rome does when he throws slang around all over the place, and will dog a guy until he interviews him in which he thens lobs nothing but softballs. I have gotten to where I listen to Dan Patrick since his how is no loner affiliated with ESPN. It seems since then he is not afraid to ask the tough questions when he has a person on and Dan tries his best to not pass judgement unless he has all the info. During the whole Cam situation, he never made an accusation or even tried to guess what was really going on, just reported what was out there and discussed it.

The NFL has a way of knocking some of the vinegar out of young QB's. Mainly through things like this.

Yeah, that is what I was alluding to by saying his teammates would have no tolerance for that. QBs, especially first round rookie QBs are highly protected during practices, but those NFL guys find ways to make their point to cocky rookie QBs if he starts to think to highly of themselves. What is the #1 thing you hear the most from rookie NFL players when the describe the difference between the college game and the NFL game? The speed. Cam will find out that NFL linebackers and defensive backs are not as slow or small as many of the guys he faced this past year.

We'll run a train on those chicken fingers.

That wasn't a lesson teaching. That was a mugging.

That wasn't a lesson teaching. That was a mugging.
Very true and QB's aren't usually included in muggings as such.
Cam was a beloved icon and and first rate entertainer to all Auburn fans.
But the haters want utter failure and/or injury with an eventual trophy stripping.
He has stated that he thrives on the negativity of others. No problem finding that in the NFL. Just hope it comes from opposing teams.

The thing that would worry me, if I'm a GM or HC/QB Coach, would be, do I have to teach him how to read defenses everyday...does he soak up the information like a sponge, how does he handle critisism, how does he handle his own fans booing him, does he go into a shell after making mistakes on top of mistakes? Can Cam answer all of the hard questions without side stepping and saying that he's blessed by God and flashing his smile?
The teams that're willing to invest Million(s) into Cam will drill him with anything and everything (including the Cat or Dog question)...I could see Cam answering that question with "Both...I'm a Cog that you want on your team, without me, your team is without it's tooth." Not really, but that would be hilarious.

Considering the fact that these NFL guys miss on QBs far more often than they hit...
And that most have an ego rhat tells them "Im genius enough to make a physical talent like that a star" then blame it on the talent's work ethic if they fail...
There is little real science to it. Physical ability is top,s. If you can spell your name someone will take a shot. Cam has enough charisma, and is smart enough, somebody will probably take him early, especially if they are in need.

This is my overall opinion on Cam Newton.
The reading and retention part has to come in the pro game to take a team to the playoffs. Had John Elway gone to Baltimore things might have been very different for him although we all agree that the game is played differently today.
Big Ben is almost dinosaurlike as a QB. The opposition hangs on him as he delivers an ugly ball by most standards, but as effectively as a SS-Rodgers or 3B-Brady. What sets these guys apart is their resillience or unflappability. They can fail and overcome by correcting their own errors and by not repeating the same mistake twice or even more. They understand that their place is to find the playmakers as quickly and precisely as they can. It is all about them but I liken what they do to a game of chess with a timer. The game is often decided by a few moves be it success or failure.
Cam gets the glamorous, it's a business, entertaining part of the game. The Jay Barker's and Jason Campbell's can generally make the throws and provide the necessary leadership of the position, but there is an element missing that marginalizes their games. And Cam is neither of these because of his personality. So to me it's the speed of the game and setting up the pieces with quick consise decisionmaking according to the overall gameplan set by the staff that knows the opponents strengths and weaknesses.
We know Cam can run, and the great ones always do in crunchtime when the game's on the line. We know he can make all of the throws which is basically an NFL requirement. Moreover, can he perform all of these acts while being persued by NFL defenders? I don't know if he can. But I would not bet against this young man because of what I saw him do this season, at Auburn, in one season, with a better than a good overall supporting cast, surrounded by controversy, amongst all of the questions concerning his father, his character and his honesty.
It is said he is a polarizing figure and he is compared by many to Vince Young. I don't think Cam Newton is a headcase. He is an Alpha-male, never doubting his abilities, not one that makes excuses, or the type that sulks. Newton might struggle with a team with marginal talent that can't really protect him, but this is the guy that can get some seasoning and weather the storm until proper help arrives if that organization is truly set on winning. Naysayers even have to admit that Cam is an extremely gifted talent while internally predicting his ultimate failure in the NFL as a QB for various reasons, some not worthy of mention. The NFL purist can point to the technical flaws that dual threat QBs generally struggle with yet cannot explain Ryan Leaf.
But to the Auburn family, Cam Newton is OUR GUY and WE know that Cam Newton is no ordinary human being. The NFL wants Cam Newton to succeed. He is good for the game and he is a money maker and I have no doubt that he will deliver in time as a regular in the playoffs, perhaps even some Super Bowls.

What pisses me off is the fucking NFL "experts" that question his work ethic. Saying that he's so talented and so athletically gifted that his work ethic might not be where it should be at this point in his career. Are you fucking serious? Did none of these "Matt Mayoks" of the world not listen to the reports by ALL of the players and coaches stating that Cam busts his ass at practice, that he's a workaholic? His athletic ability, his personallity, his charisma, his leadership, his size, his arm, his wheels & his work ethic are all there and then some. His knowledge of the defenses & ability to read the defenses is what's lacking....right now. Film study will take care of that. But if that's the only thing teams are worried about, then they either don't need a QB or they're just brain dead stupid. Mayock's knock on Cam is that he came from a Spread System and that doesn't translate that well to the NFL game. I can understand that, but Mayock's "Golden Calf" Blaine Gabbert also came from a Spread System. Then his 2nd QB, Jake Locker (6'2" 240lbs), doesn't have the arm of Cam, nor the agility...but yet, he's higher on Mayock's board, even after he got the shit knocked outta him at the Senior Bowl and basically knocked himself outta the Top 20 with his performance.

There is something not right about Locker. He has been often criticized for his poor decisions on the field and I have to think a guy with baseball skills should have collected his bonus and be sharpening his game. He comes from a long family lineage of athletes. I think of Todd Helton, and they say he has what it takes. But it is extremely hard to lay out of baseball and retain those skills. If I could play both, I would choose baseball without question even with a great love for football.
Just pull up Buddy Nix , Buffalo GM on Cam. He knows the score and they have other glaring needs. Actually read the responses because there is some background noise. Nix isn't running around with a pocketful of money and he came up through the ranks, was even an asst. at Auburn, HC at UTC and a scout for years. I think you know who I'm talking about with the money...and he could pull a shocking trade with the apathy toward Romo.
