Title: Championship painting
Post by: Kaos on February 10, 2011, 03:04:03 PM
I'm sick, at home and bored.  So you all bear the brunt.

Okay, we've two sketches of upcoming National Championship paintings.

One from Allen Zuniga:
http://alanzuniga.com/graphics/GLORY-On_The_Plains.jpg

One from Greg Gamble:
http://www.customframingbyflowersbyrita.com/images/all_in_aub_nc_2010_.jpg

The one thing I noticed is that both prominently feature Byrum's kick.

For me, though, that wasn't "THE" moment of the championship game.  It wasn't "THE" moment of the season.

So here's the question.  If you were going to do one painting to capture the essence of this season (or just that game) what components would you use?

Might have to put Dyer rolling over the defender in there somehow.

This. And Fairley recovering the fumble he caused against bammer. And Cam diving into the endzone against SC the first time.

Byrum's kick would stay though.

Maybe Carter catching Ingram?

Maybe a crowd shot of our student section with their hands up

That would take a lot of dark colors.

Hey, if anyone has some pics, please to be showing.  I haven't seen it in years.

My painting would have glimpses from Dyer's run.  It would have a picture of Bo kissing his forehead in appreciation of his accomplishment, on the day Bo got his 25th anniversary plaque.  I would utilize the final stretch of Cam's out reaching arm, hammering down the ball across the goal line after dragging Patrick Peterson the final five yards, and leaving a wake of LSU defenders.  It would have Byrum's kick, but post kick.  It would be him turning to his team mates with outstretched arms in celebration.

It would be epic.

Cam's run vs LSU

Carter stripping Ingram

One of Dyer's last two runs in the BCS game.

No Kodi?  I'm not buying it.

I really don't need to see the kick itself, but wouldn't mind if the painting included the shot where Byrum has turned around and Neil C is laying on his back like a turtle.

Dyer. Zachary. Cam. Nick. Josh.

Maybe I do need six paintings.  The four that Gamble did from 2004, I have all those.

I vote for a pic of McElroy laying on the ground with his eyes crossed.

That one is OK, but if you can't see McElroy's eyes to note his Rhodes Scholarship slipping away and running down his legs to water the grass it just doesn't truly capture the moment.

Heard him this morning on Opening Drive talking about how he was going to ace the Wonderlic with a perfect 50/50.

He's like one of the antagonists from an 80's movie like Ski School or Revenge of the Nerds...

Don't mind the stank but it has to be removable by something less than penicillin or paint thinner.

I totally would. She's pretty hot, I must admit.

I'd make her say War Eagle right before I pulled out and finished on her face.

Too much?

They didn't flip the negative, the ball is in his right hand.  If they had flipped it it would have looked like he was trying to throw it left handed.

I also found this evidence that they've got a pretty weird incestuous thing going on (aka being bammers).

Daniel Moore's print sketch is out.

He did what I asked.  Ziemba, Kodi, Zac Etheridge, Dyer, Byrum, Cam, Pugh...

Still not sure I like it, though.  Too much Chizik.

I'm not too sure I like the "Family Guy" representation of Chizik.  Otherwise, pretty cool.

While I'm complaining?  The bald eagle irritates me a little, too.  I know we've used them but the primary representation isn't the bald eagle at all.

Maybe the painting will be better than the sketch.

I will say that Moore's work has gotten progressively worse since he did Bo Over the Top.  His Stallings picture from the 1992 title (with DuBose glowing in the background) is an absolute joke.

My all time favorite print is still Gamble's "Touchdown Auburn" from the 1994 UF Game.

That being said, I think of the three prints I've seen, I like Moore's the best, simply because it has the players on it that I think best represent the season.  The look of sheer joy on Kodi Burns' face is, I think, one of the best moments the NC Game.
