Title: NikeID
Post by: Kaos on January 30, 2011, 11:59:34 PM
I'm weird about shoes.  I won't wear training/running/tennis shoes with any red on them.  I don't want yellow, green, purple, or any other color like that.

For years I've purchased only those with either orange or blue as the primary color.  Got probably a dozen pair of Underarmour shoes with blue or orange or some combination of both.

For a while that was a popular color combination.  You could expect to find a shoe with navy as the primary or secondary color fairly easily.  I'm not taking about solid blue or orange shoes, but white or gray shoes with primarily blue or orange trim.

Not so much anymore.  Underarmour has gone to a lot of black and silver.  Reds. Aqua. Went into Finish Line yesterday and didn't see a single pair in any brand that met my standards.

Enter NikeID.com.  Yes, I hate giving money to Phil.  I hate feeding the Oregon machine.  But that site lets you design your own shoe.  You can choose the colors you want.  On top of that you can add personalization.  Left shoe War, right shoe Eagle.    Or Tigers down the side.

I hope Underarmour eventually follows suit, but I'm building me at least a pair or two of Nikes exactly the colors I want them.

Gay that I want to design shoes?  Whatever.  I'm makimg me some.

Hope New Balance or Under Armour adds this soon.  Nikes never fit me correctly.

I'm too damn cheap. I get whatever is on the clearance rack at Khol's.

That said, I am picky about my basketball shoes. I still play once a week and I only wear Jordan XIX. I love the fit and feel. I am on my second pair in like 8 years. They only touch the bball floor so they last longer. Other than that, I wear pretty much whatever fells OK and is cheapest.

Yes. When you are pounding 250 on the dogs, you stay with a shoe that has plenty of cushion so that the Aleve will still allow you to walk around close to normal the next day. It's not a performance issue, but a "damn my knees hurt" issue.

So yes, Fredo, it matters.

As an aside and in relation to Nike there are two things I'd like to note.

I can only wear two type of running/training shoes.  Nike and Underarmour.   Asics, New Balance, Brooks, Reebok, Adidas, whatever all suck.  Wear them and walk any distance beyond from the door to the car and I get a burning pain that runs the side of my leg from the ankle to the knee.  Fuck all those shoes.

In regard to Nike and Underarmour and their war for world domination? I was always a Nike person until UA signed Auburn up.  And then I tried one of the performance polos.  Greatest golf shirt ever. Now my closet is stuffed with Underarmour.  Polos, mock turtlenecks, socks, shoes, jackets, whatever they make.  I do hate the tight fit of some of their performance t-s, however.  Form fitting isn't great when your form is not symmetrical.  Those damn things are for high school kids and wheezing dorks who don't know the joy of a potroast and mashed potatoes.   So anyway, my ass will be a little sore if Cam signs a deal with Nike.  I want him to be an Underarmour guy.  I want him to be for UA what Bo was for Nike.

Don't blame New Balance cause you got hammer time in your shoes.

Nike's are cut too narrow and I used to feel like my feet had been in a vise after playing ball.  Right now I wear Converse to play basketball in, and like CC, they never touch anything but hardwood.

They sure don't look like cowboy boots.
