Its still weird to me how this guy had to transfer for playing time. Anyway, apparently he still loves Auburn.

Well, that settles that.
Pretty awesome.

He didn't get to play because he was with two guys that were so awesome that ti was hard to justify playing a totally different type back. But even with that said, there were times that a smart coaching staff would have put this guy in the game for the 4th quarter and just pounded. As much as Tubs would sit on a lead, BJ would have been the perfect 4th quarter option. A tired defense trying to stop a fresh lineman running the ball? Could have been pretty awesome.
And the backup TE at Vandy probably would attest to how hard BJ could hit.

The day we lost Jacobs IMO was the 2003 MSU game when Jacobs was a BEAST between the 10's and every time we got close Tubs pulled him and let Cadillac run it in. I said then that it was a mistake because Brandon was the workhorse for the day.

I've told this before but what you said about Jacobs reminded me again. Years ago, I'm watching one of those primo JP SEC broadcasts from Oxford Miss. one fine Fall Saturday morning. Duece McAllister was playing for the Rebs that day as they faced a stiff challenge from Tulane (smirk) OM also had a bad ass RB named Joe Gunn and after the Rebels took a kickoff on about their own 15, they served the Green Wave a steady diet of Gunn left, Gunn right, Gunn up the middle. Dude was a beast, ripping off 5-7-8-10 yards a pop. All the way down the field to the 1 yard line. For the FIRST time on the drive...enter Duece McAllister. Snap...handoff..dive....TOUCHDOWN.
After the extra point is kicked and the cameras pan over to the sideline, they pull in tight on McAllister while the chorus of DUUUUUUUUEEEECCCCE eminates from the crowd. There's the star running back of the Ole Miss Rebels....gasping for air while holding an oxygen mask to his face...only to briefly take it off long enough for a "Hi mom."
You could see Gunn sitting by himself at the end of the bench. DUUUUUUUEEEECE

and were ranked #1 preseason the year before before starting 0-2 not scoring a TD against USCw and GT.
All kidding aside, I think there is some merit to CCT's statement. I can just imagine how even MORE dominant that 04 team could have been had Tubs and staff had any inkling of a killer instinct. Quite possibly could have been enough to sway pollsters above Oklahoma.

Yeah, that stuff ended up sucking...except for Coach Chizik and Coach Gran

Yeah, that stuff ended up sucking...
FAIL! No staff that recruits that type of talent on the 2004 team, and coaches it to an undefeated season in the SEC sux, no matter how they ended their run at Auburn.

Oh, and the little matter of having two guys that went #2, and #5 overall in the 2005 NFL draft already in the backfield, and that combined for nearly 4000 yards rushing in 2003-2004.
Once saw a guy on the net trying to run down Tubs and staff for missing out on Osi Umenyiora. Forgetting the fact that his Fr. year at Troy was 1999, AND that EVERY FUCKING BODY missing him. There was a reason he wasn't on anybody's radar. Same with Demarcus Ware.
The Tubs haters WILL find something, anything they can to cling to their notion that Tubs sucked, and completely ignore anything to the contrary. Tubs and staff had Ronnie and Carnell, but they're "stupid" for not playing Jacobs enough.
I'm
Any of you "Tubs sucked" folks want to discuss how Dye or Jordan's careers ended at Auburn?

Don't even try GH. I knew when I posted that someone would miss the point. BJ was not here for the 2004 season, but that didn't seem to matter, even as we were discussing how he was used/not used during the season he was here, 2003.
And I shudder to think if all three backs had rotated in the 4th quarter during 2004. The pounding any defense would have taken would have been unreal. IT was just a shame that we could not accommodate him. But with the exceptional talent we already had in the backfield, someone was bound to get left out. I particularly liked the braniac that suggested he move to TE to help his draft stock.........
BTW. Didn't Ronnie or Carnell spend time injured in 2003. And they still didn't play Jacobs. I can't recall exactly.
Also. I don't hate Tubs, I was just making an observation about BJ, the guy this thread is about.

Your point was they should have played him more in 2003. Ronnie Brown was coming off a 2002 season in which he had 1000 yds rushing. In 2003, Ronnie and Carnell combined for around 250 carries, and and nearly 1800 yards, with Carnell getting about 2/3 of that.
If you believe that not playing him was "stupid"...or that they could have done something with Jacobs that would have changed that 2003 season, because you think the preseason ranking was how it should have actually turned out...have a ball.
Honestly, from what I remember, I think Jacobs was brought in with a promise to him to let him "compete" at RB, but with the staff thinking they'd convert him to DE. I have nothing but my opinion to say I think Jacobs didn't want to do that, and may have flirted with being a locker room cancer over playing time. Clearly, the 2004 team showed that Jacobs wasn't needed to "complete" the team.
If anything, Tubs mistake was bringing in a JC transfer to compete with Williams and Brown he had already paid their dues and more than proved they were capable. Finally, say what you want, but you can't find a season where Jacobs did anything special...he didn't even rush for 1000 yards at So. Ill the year after he left Auburn. I think he's had one good season in the NFL, and it wasn't really stellar.
-
Obviously he's big for a back at 260lbs or whatever he is now, but wasn't he really tall for a back at like 6'4"? Makes it hard to get behind the pads, most of the real stud power backs that lasted in the NFL have been around 6' or shorter. I believe that's why he has slowed down in his stats.
Bettis 5'11"
Campbell 5'11"
Alstott 6'1"
The only exception I found on a quick look on the webs was Csonka who was 6'3".
-
I think it was Ronnie that was injured. And instead of rotating BJ more, they just stuck with Carnell. Which was not a bad thing. It is just widely believed that a fresher Carnell was better than a tired Carnell. As evidenced in 2004 when the carries were more even between RB and CW.
RUSHING Att Yds Avg TD
Carnell Williams 241 1,307 5.4 17
Ronnie Brown 95 446 4.7 5
Brandon Jacobs 72 446 6.2 3
Tre Smith 37 141 3.8
Apparently it was RB that was hurt some that season.
Notice the 6.2 yd avg. That would have been nice in those 4th quarters.
Nobody's asking you to remove Tubs form your shrine, just to entertain the fact that we had a superbowl winning RB that was not given as many carries as he could have had to help a team that needed a little extra help.

Jacobs 6.2 avg was, in fact, in mop up duty vs tired Ds. It's inflated. Don't know if he was injured or not, but Ronnie Carried the ball in every game in 2003. Carnell was simply the #1 guy.
If you believe that the problem in 2003 was Jacobs not getting carries...have a ball. I don't give a shit if he's "won a Super Bowl".
I don't have a shrine, just tired of folks either revising history, or doing what all haters of certain coaches do, and giving Tubs all the blame for the way it ended, and none of the credit for the good he did, or doing like you're doing and completely ignoring who was on that team, and claiming Jacobs should have played more and finding fault in that. I think intelligent football/Auburn fans can give Tubs the blame for the way it ended...I do...but to do so we don't have to run through his entire career at Auburn and highlight ANYTHING we can to try to make the whole 10 seasons suck. Also don't for a spilt second think that playing Brandon Jacobs more would have made one whit of difference in the 2003 season. But if you can speculate that it would have, I can speculate just as easily that it might have destroyed what team chemistry there was, and could have caused Ronnie, or Carnell to be lesser players due to bad attitudes. May have caused one or both to forgo their Sr. season in 2004.
Whatever, it happened, it is what it is, and reliving it over and over with pure speculation is stupid.

Kinda like not playing Kenny Irons that first game against GT?
The one thing I see now is that Tubs group did not really do as good a job of using the talent they had as well as the current staff. The fact that they finally got RB and CW in the backfield together and did it well was a huge step for them. And who knows, that may have been the foundation for what this current staff is able to do today with the sharing the load in the backfield.
But as for BJ, they could have used him a little more to put pressure on a tired defense. He wasn't used. AU went 8-5 in 2003 and it seems some of the talent there was not used as well as it could have been. Speculating about whether or not RB and CW would have stayed for 2004 is not at all in the discussion. This thread was about 2003 and BJ. You made it about a love for Tubs and 2004. I was only discussing 2003 and the way I felt we could have used BJ a little more. And why would CW be the feature back in 2003 when RB got more carries in 2002? Injury to RB. At the time RB got injured, they did not play BJ more. I think this really chapped his hide. It would have mine. So yes, I do think that Tubs and company did not use him smartly in 2003. If that is considered "bashing" Tubs, then so be it. you could start a new thread about a player that was used well by Tubs & Co. and I could comment on that, but this thread is about Brandon Jacobs and his former affiliation with AU football.
-
Not sure what the rationale behind the use or non-usage of BJ was in 03'. Suffice it to say they had bigger problems with the failed Nallsminger experiment. I really think that offense had very little direction or ability to adjust or attack defenses anyway. Just going by what I related once before about the Ole Miss game that year when it was pointed out to me that the Ole Miss D was playing a certan way because every single passing play had every single receiver running routes along the sidelines....every time for several series. I don't think they had a clue how to use personnel or attack a defense.

Amen. I always wonder if Borges or Petrino would have used the talent so differently that 2003 just might have lived up to its billing. Nallsminger is one ugly memory. Go Dax.....

Actually its you, and others like you that make me wonder why anyone pays professional coaches when you, from the stands, having no clue whats going on in the lockerroom or on the practice field could have done a better job.

It's people LIKE me who ARE on the practice fields and in the locker rooms of our youth football teams. We are the ones analyzing what was done in the past so that it might help us with our kids in the future. Our undying devotion to protect a college coach never enters into it. We are always left wondering what could have been done differently in order to execute a more palatable outcome. So when I see situation in hindsight that could have been much different had a different approach been used, it makes me think what I should be looking for in the future. Yes it is a stretch to think that I might have RB, CW, and BJ all on my 8th grade team, but you never know what type of talent issues will arise. But if I have that problem, I'll be sure to inquire from you what the great Tubs might have done.
And it is always guys like you who THINK you have done it smarter and know more. All hail Tubs. The greatest AU coach ever. All hail JR4AU for hailing Tubs as the greatest AU coach ever. Please do not question the great Tubs past coaching decisions. The fleas of a thousand camels will infest your nether regions.
I apologize for interjecting my BJ opinions in a BJ thread. I should know better. That damn BJ was a worthless POS that we should have never recruited. I mean we were already rolling ten deep at the RB position. The great Tubs was just trying to be nice and look what it got him.

I'm Brandon Jacobs. People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks. Years later, a doctor will tell me that I have an I.Q. of 48 and am what some people call mentally retarded.

You were spot on with the first sentence, but the temptation to take a shot at Tubs and Co. was just too much to resist.
It's people LIKE me who ARE on the practice fields and in the locker rooms of our youth football teams. I guess it's only fair for you to resort to accusing me of building shrines to Tubs, or saying that I think he's the greatest coach ever, though I've never hinted at either. I did call you a Tubs hater. So there's that.
I am on the field coaching youth football too. Has little if anything to do directly with college ball. Never have considered that I could learn any lessons from speculating what might have been now that I've had time to decide that since they had a disappointing season that they must have misused talent despite the fact that they were using some of the best talent available...hell I always thought the main problem was lack of identity on offense.
That said, then you will understand when I relate these stories: Had two kids on this past season's 11/12 year old team. One was a great athlete. Threw the ball better than anyone on the team, was big enough at 5-9, 125ish, and had blinding speed. He could kick the ball too, both on kick offs and punts. The other, was a big kid 5-9, 200+ (you'd call him fat I'm sure) but he could move well, and block anyone you told him to block, and could snap the ball too. He was the strongest kid on the team, understood leverage, and how to use his strength. If you saw the athlete run in a game, you'd say "he needs to have the ball in his hands every play." What you wouldn't know if you weren't at practice is that he wouldn't show up for practice but about half the time and didn't know the plays, and that he'd never played football before and just generally didn't have any football IQ. If you saw the big kid devastate a DL you'd wonder why his playing time was cut by year's end...but you wouldn't know it was because he didn't listen when he did show up for practice, and didn't know the blocking rules. That he'd kill whoever he decided to block, but about half the time he blocked the wrong man and his assigned man would blow the play up. Combine that with a horrible attitude, and a complete unwillingness to listen, learn or give any effort until HE decided to...and he was a liability. A talented one, but a liability. This kids Dad played major college football too. He comes from good football genes, but he'll never play unless he gets his head on straight. He's a team killer. He affected the chemistry of the OL with his bullshit, but that's not something you can see from the stands.
And it is always guys like you who THINK you have done it smarter and know more. All hail Tubs. The greatest AU coach ever. All hail JR4AU for hailing Tubs as the greatest AU coach ever. I never said I could do it better, I questioned you claiming it could have been done better. Subtle difference. Like I said, you had it figured out, but the temptation to take a shot with your "a smarter staff would have" bullshit...and you're accusation of me of saying I think I could do it better. A-fucking-mazing. Then, you just get childish with: "All hail JR4AU for hailing Tubs as the greatest AU coach ever" which I didn't ever say, or: "That damn BJ was a worthless POS that we should have never recruited" which I never hinted at.

Blah. blah. Blah. Blah. BLah.
I entered this thread discussing Brandon Jacobs and how I liked his play while at AU and thought he should have gotten more playing time with RB out some games due to injury.
You came on here defending Tubs but offering nothing about BJ of relevance. If you don't want to be labeled as a choking swallowing DKW, then stick to the subject. Or don't. We'll offer a napkin. Your choice.

Yeah. You got me. I bow to your cornering brilliance. I will now sign off of the "defend Tubs at all cost" thread (although I was under the impression that we were to discuss BJ and his AU affiliation). Didn't intend to insinuate that the great Tubs ever made any questionable choices. My bad. Carry on.

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT....
You remember shit not as it was, but as you want it to be. All the pee wee coaching in the world won't change that.
We had Ronnie. We had Carnell. Those two guys were the primary backs. Neither were seriously hurt in 2003, Carnell just got the bulk of the carries because he was healthy. Ronnie tweaked a hamstring early, we started to depend on Carnell and that's just the way things rolled. Carnell was injured in 2001 and 2002 (and Ronnie topped 1000 yards, including a beatdown of Penn State)
In case you forgot, the coaching staff at that time wouldn't play people unless they knew their assignments -- blocking and the whole scheme. Remember Kenny Irons sitting out early one year because he wouldn't get his head out of his ass and pick up the blitz?
You don't know why Jacobs was used as he was. You don't know what was promised to Carnell to get him to change his commitment from Tennessee to Auburn. Bet starting was one of the things he was guaranteed. Bet being the first option was one.
Would Jacobs have stayed if he'd gotten ten or 11 more carries? You give him more carries and you're taking them away from Ronnie and Carnell. Both were picked in the first round of the draft. They were sorta good in their own right.
There is only one ball, CC. Just one. Don't care who you are, you can't have three people carrying it. 72 carries is a lot for a number three back. And regardless of how you remember it, that's what he was. Third option.
Tuberville had his faults. Not playing Brandon Jacobs wasn't one of them. If either Carnell or Ronnie had (as expected) come out early, Jacobs would have stayed and been a strong number two in 2004. They didn't. He wasn't. He left.
But bash away. That's what some of you are best at. Tuberville is the devil.
-

We lost to GT that year early because Tubs and Co. were "too stubborn" and wouldn't just go ahead and play Irons despite not knowing his assignments in pass pro. You can ask Steve Young how it works out to have a fucking moron that won't pick up the blitz watching your back.

Yeah. You come back from whatever jerk-off hole you've been in and claim something about me you have no freaking clue about. Dumbass. I have never bashed Tubs. I liked Tubs up until the end when things went to crap. So spare me your holier than thou BS. Start your feud back up with those who enjoy the literary circle jerk that you have emceed for years. You are words, nothing else.
BTW. Welcome back. If it is really you.

Same here. I liked Coach Tuberville, right up until he stopped recruiting.

Too dumb for words. So I won't bother.

Yup...dumb call. The RB screen would've been open ALL DAY.
I am pretty sure you missed the point...

It's not quite THAT far fetched...

You just don't get it, do you...
Everything Prowler says is "too dumb for words". It's way easier to day than those actual words.

Why do you have to be a hysterical little girl?

Why do you have to be a hysterical little girl?
Why do you hate little girls?

Why do you hate little girls?
Only hate ones with penises.
And to be clear, I have no opinion whatsoever regarding girls under the age of 18 with the exception of Miley Cyrus who I consider a desperate, whorish abomination on the face of the earth.

At least you don't over dramatize things...

Shes over 18...so you didn't need to add all that. ;)

At least you don't over dramatize things...
Some might call that a trait of a hysterical little girl.

I underdramatize them, typically.

As previously stated, you don't deal in facts. You deal in conjecture, hyperbole and rampant speculation. Only after one of your 11,253 comments randomly works out do you then declare it as one of your "facts."
Nothing wrong with it, as long as you know what you are.

Damn....just keep adding to the number. Started out at 417, now it's at 11,253. And yes, I do deal in FACTS, unless I state "here's what I think" or "IMO" or "here's what I'm hearing" or "Word on da Skreets". And before your fat little fingers can type this, no I don't "Always" put that in my posts. If you don't believe me, just go back and take a look at my posts. You're just too stupid to comprehend anything.
Someone should stop me if y'all think I'm going a little too far. I wouldn't want kaos to go run and hide again.

I prefer AU no matter if we win the MNC or not.

I think that's the first time I've ever seen someone use the edit to fuck up a post instead of correct it.
Congrats.

Just like your momma. Why do you think they call her Hoover?

They have new innovative features to clean pet hair and more!

If it's Momma Hoover, it's probably horse hair.

That was Snoop calling her Bizzle, right after she Hoovered him.

I dig these.
I'm a fan of that shield logo. I bought a t-shirt thinking it was that exact logo, and it was a fail. Similar logo, but not quite that one.
-

Exactly this. I wrestled with the whole merchandise thing...should I get a hat, or a sweatshirt, etc. But finally decided that I'm sticking to my original AU. Everyone knows we won the MNC...I don't have to wear it.

I bought one of those that night of the Championship game. That shirt looked better than any shirt they had to offer at the game.

I'm waiting and hoping to see a regular hat (with AU,or vintage Aubie, etc on the front) with the National championship logo on the side. that's the hat I want to buy
