Breaking News: Les Miles to remain at LSU
LSU released the following statement today:
LSU head football coach Les Miles notified LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva on Tuesday morning that he will remain at LSU.
"I am pleased to announce that Les Miles will remain the head coach at LSU," said Alleva. "Les has led this program to many great successes on the field and his players represent LSU well off the field. We look forward to many great years of LSU football under his leadership."
Miles will have a press conference upon his return from Dallas where he is speaking at the convention of the American Football Coaches Association.
It is unclear if Miles will get an increase in pay, but TD.com sources had indicated last month that both Miles and LSU saw the need to re-word portions of the contract that pertained to rollover and buyout.
As for Michigan, it is assumed that former Michigan assistant and current San Diego State coach Brady Hoke is now the front-runner to replace Rich Rodriguez. It is unclear if Miles was offered the job at all.

I'm not sure who's more angry with this news; LSU or Michigan fans?

Either Mich didn't offer, or Les didn't accept, but in either event it was for the same reasons I suspect. I think Les made it clear that with Rich Rod's recruiting of small fast players, he'd need a few years to get it back to "Big 10" football, and either Mich wasn't comfortable being patient, or Les sensed they wouldn't be patient with him. Fact is, if they intend to go back to a "Tight End Offense" and Big Bruiser Defense, the next coach is going to be lacking players for 2-3 years.
