Title: Last Fiesta?
Post by: Snaggletiger on January 07, 2011, 12:25:12 PM
Just some back and forth on our local sports talk show this morning concerning the Fiesta Bowl hosting the national championship in the future and how this might/should be the last time.  The fact that you have a venue for a game of this magnitude with only 73,000 seats has caused problems that are now starting to steamroll out of control.  The host quoted one ticket broker as saying this has now become the toughest ticket in the history of sports...period.

There are horror stories about brokers not coming through, tickets not being received etc and now, lawsuits are already being filed.  Stubhub may wind up in a world of hurt before this thing is over and I talked to a guy yesterday who "purchased" 10 tix from them prior to the SECCG and he's reached agreemnent with Stubhub to repay him $35K for those tickets.  The lack of foresight concerning using this venue to host something like this is amazing and no one seemed prepared for the problems.  The Jerry Dome holds 100K and is right down the road.  The Rose Bowl holds what...93K?  No reason on earth for a ticket in the nosebleeds to one ball game, no matter how big, to cost $3,000.00 and up.

Thoughts?

What about when the Sugar Bowl hosts it?  How many does it hold?  The Orange is in a pro stadium too, and I'm sure it only seats around the 70k mark.

One important thing that people need to realize (although they will not), Stubhub only a platform for people selling tickets and they exact a fee for helping to legitimize it.  The actual reputable public brokers have done right by their customers.

I guess my question continues to be, how do you sell something you don't have?  I didn't order or even try so I didn't get taken but there's tons of folks who are getting ripped a new on this deal.

Exactly, the whole situation is bullshit.

The same way people speculate on stocks.  They take chances.
Think about it this way, up till this year you always had fans you could buy them off of.  They would have been above face value but the brokers could get them, but this year Auburn folks will not sell them for almost any price so the supply that has always been there no longer exists.

Think about it this way. If I ordered and paid for tickets to the game.....then incurred a couple of thousand dollars in expenses for flights and hotels and rental cars etc.  and then said seller said, sorry..can't help you.  Said seller is going to either pay me my money or answer a lawsuit.  Offer and acceptance means contract, not speculation.

Don't disagree but just saying in order to have a hope to collect they had best been dealing with a legitimate broker to begin with.  Some 47 year old Alabama fan doing it out of his mom's basement is going to be hard to collect damages from.

The same way most prosecutors do.  Head between legs.
