Title: ticket $ update

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - With the Oregon and Auburn football teams five days from playing in the BCS national championship game, ticket prices are skyrocketing to unprecedented heights.

On Wednesday afternoon, asking prices on resale site StubHub.com started at $3,899 and climbed to $15,995 for a seat on the 50-yard line. On Zigabid, a price-negotiating site based in Southern California, tickets were selling for about $5,000 apeice, founder Dan Rubendall said.

“Right now, its unprecedented,” Rubendall said. “It’s absolutely the craziest scene we’ve ever seen. I mean, this is bigger than any Super Bowl we’ve seen in 20 years.”

Asking prices also were in the thousands of dollars on Craigslist.org, and traffic on all sites appeared to be high.

“Right now this game is tracking as the top-selling event in the history of StubHub,” up 40 percent from last year’s BCS championship matchup, spokesman Glenn Lehrman said. “The average ticket price is currently at $1,107 per ticket.”

Lehrman confirmed that orders from Alabama are outpacing those from Oregon by 2-1.

Driving demand are the facts that Oregon never has played for a national title and that Auburn hasn’t won a championship in decades. Each team has an explosive offense that has stirred interest among even fans not allied with the teams. And the venue for Monday night’s game, 73,000-seat University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., is much smaller than the host of the 2010 title game, the 92,000-seat Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

For last year’s championship between Alabama and Texas, ticket prices on Zigabid peaked at about $1,000, Rubendall said, then declined to about $350, or just over the $300 and $325 face values.

Rubendall said it was difficult to predict what would happen to asking prices between now and kickoff, 5:30 Pacific on Monday.

“It could open up tomorrow morning at $3,000,” Rubendall said. “There’s just no way of knowing.”

It's getting to be the most sought after ticket in the Sports World History, bigger than the Beijing Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics.

For real?

I've heard of this happening to several people. This is a crying damn shame. I'm glad we got ours from the Fiesta Bowl people themselves...

I've talked to 2 people this week who got a call from the tix broker saying, sorry....we're refunding your money.  Can't help ya'.

My brother in law got everything booked the day after the SECCG and still doesn't have his tickets and is now being told they'll have a booth set up to pick them up at the game.  What's happening is all those tickets that were purchased for $500-$800 are now being yanked and resold for $2,000-$3,000.  There are definite shenanigans afoot.

One of my girlfriends who is in Phoenix already said it is fucking insane there already. Lots of fans there without tickets....they have started taking out ads in the local papers.....offering thousands of dollars...one guy offered a week in his chalet in Aspen as a swap.

So, if the original allotment of tickets to each school were around 17,000, with the tickets sales on  Stub Hub are to 2 to 1 Auburn, that tells me there will be a lot more Auburn fans at the game.

I bought 8 tickets from the Fiesta Bowl directly.

Crazy to think that I could have made about $25,000 (or about an entry level year's salary) if I would have sold the other six, plus the college football's biggest party tickets/parking passes, etc. for what they're going for now instead of to friends for face value.

No guarantee.  Everything has long since been booked so he has no choice other than to head out there on faith and hope they're as good as their word.

He's not happy.

I'm getting fucked, too.  At least they could give me a reach around as a common courtesy.

How are you getting reamed?  Have they told you no...just not sent them?

Guy I bought them from sent via USPS for some unfuckingknown reason.  I've got a tracking number, and it says it left B'Ham on the 24th, for delivery on the 27th.  That's the last the USPS has seen it.

I'm protected via PayPal, but that doesn't help me get into the fucking game.

Some upstanding USPS employee is either going to party big time in Glendale or just got one hell of a Christmas bonus.

Damn man, that sux balls.

What I'm wondering on this deal is on some of these cases where the brokers are refunding the money, could you somehow bust that ass by finding out if they're selling the tix for a higher price?  It would take some work but it could be done.  There would definitely be a civil cause of action there and probably criminal as well.  There are some people getting fucked on this thing having booked flights, rooms etc.

From Stubhub:
"As a result of the high demand and scarcity of BCS National Championship Game tickets, we have been unable to fulfill some customers’ orders," said StubHub spokesperson Joellen Ferrer. "Unfortunately, one of our larger sellers for this event could not secure enough tickets to fulfill all of their confirmed sales, which has caused a trickle-down effect. We have purchased as many tickets as are available to help fill customers’ orders, however we are still short of tickets due to the incredibly high demand for this game. Additionally, we have currently stopped the resale of BCS National Championship Game tickets on StubHub and have chosen to reach out to buyers to offer them an incentive to more than double their purchase price in exchange for their tickets. Should buyers choose to resell their tickets, we will use them to fill the outstanding orders. StubHub will not be re-listing any of these tickets on its site. This was done in an effort to satisfy as many customers as possible, while standing by our FanProtect guarantee that states that all confirmed ticket orders will be fully refunded if they are not delivered on time, authentic, and as good or better than the tickets ordered."

I am glad I am just coming back to Auburn. Less Stress-cheaper-around more friends and family-And able to go to toomers afterwards.

I actually don't think the majority are selling them for higher prices.  I think they are actually backing out because it is costing to much to fill the earlier orders.

Could be the case.  I just don't grasp the concept of selling what you don't have.  You know full well people are incurring huge expense in reliance on the fact that you've "Sold" them a ticket.

I never got into this, but mentioned it briefly here.

Me and the skirt ordered our tickets simultaneously back around Georgia Weekend after our names came up on the Fiesta Bowl waiting list. I got my tickets like a week later. She never got hers. I started to get worried.

I called the Fiesta Bowl office like every day, and finally they sent me duplicate tickets. The duplicates are pretty sketchy though. They're like a template printed on magazine-like paper, and filled in with a pencil.

Supposedly there were no problems though, as the guy I sold Fiesta Bowl tickets to said he got in fine.

Finally the Fiesta Bowl tickets show up in her mailbox...after Christmas...

We're talking a month and a half late.

Not only that, the envelope, which was clearly marked as Fiesta Bowl BCS Package, was torn to shreds. Three of the four sides of the envelope were opened, so the envelope was kind of just folded over the tickets.

I guarantee you some asshole tried to steal my tickets. Somehow they either got busted or had a change of heart. Or they may have figured out that I'd probably call the Fiesta Bowl ticket office and get duplicates which void the ones that got lost.
