Title: Latest Big Board has SEC flavor
Post by: AWK on December 14, 2010, 03:56:24 PM
Quote
Have you seen Mel Kiper's latest Big Board of the top 25 prospects for the 2011 NFL draft?

It looks like an SEC who's who from this past season.

Seven of Kiper's top 10 prospects are from the SEC, led by Georgia receiver A.J. Green at No. 3.

LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson is No. 4 on the Big Board, followed by Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley at No. 6, Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett at No. 7, Auburn quarterback Cam Newton at No. 8, Alabama receiver Julio Jones at No. 9 and Alabama defensive end Marcell Dareus at No. 10.

All seven SEC players in Kiper's top 10 are juniors, too.

Rounding out the SEC players making the latest Big Board are LSU defensive tackle Drake Nevis at No. 16, Mississippi State offensive tackle Derek Sherrod at No. 20 and Alabama running back Mark Ingram at No. 22.

Newton has made the biggest jump the last several weeks. He was No. 14 on Kiper's previous Big Board.

Kiper said of Newton, "Sure, he'll have to develop, but Newton's ability to run isn't just a down-the-field skill; he's also shown the ability to slide in the pocket, move outside and extend passing plays."

7 out of the top 10 are SEC players.  Cam at #8, Fairley at #6... Impressive.

I was thinking Tennessee.  That would be awesome.  Also, Carolina might trade down to get two first round picks...And pick up Cam.

I was actually thinking Miami. Pick #20 1st Rd to the Dolphins. You heard it here first.

Well, now that I think about it, Miami would have to trade up to probably get Cam. Other QB's that will be on the board are Andrew Luck, Ryan Mallet, Jake Locker.

It just seems to fit the bill. They need a QB. Not only that they already run the NFL version of the Wildcat, plus Ronnie is there.

No way Bud Adams picks him, he's still too much in love with Vince.  Looks like in the Vince or Fischer saga, Bud might stick with Vince.  You know, cause he's senile.

I would love to see the big man in Houston (if that is he opts for NFL). Tate should be back from injury next season too.

Foster & Tate in the same backfield would be very nice, then throw in Cam at QB...That's just not fair.  The Texans are a few players away from seriously competing.  They are quickly becoming one of my favorite teams.  They'll never be able to beat out Chicago as my #1 favorite team.

Yeah, I would like to see the Texans do well, they are growing on me.

Yeah, I would like to see the Texans do well, they are growing on me.

It has been miserable being a Texans fan this season though, with FOUR instances of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory... not sure how much more I can stand...

I am so sad about Ben Tate - Arian Foster has all but locked up the starting job after this year - he has been one bright spot.  Ben will have his work cut out for him next year.  Maybe the new head coach will double up the backfield - Kubiak is all but done, that's for sure.

Schaub is not a bad QB and we all know how awesome Andre Johnson is, but holy schnikes, where the hell is the defense?  Yeah, DeMeco is hurt and Mario is not a one man team, but damn, they suck.

Andre toting a whooping on that punk ass from the Titans was the best part of the entire Texans season.

We don't get many of the Texans games out here very often but I have kept up with them a little bit. I thought that would have better than they have but it seems like they are similar to last years Auburn team. From the highlights that I have seen, Schaub has been laid on his back about as much as Favre, is that accurate?

Foster does seem to be a bright spot. It is unfortunate for Ben because you're right about him having to work his ass off to try and take that starting spot. Hell, it might take him half the season to get comfortable with the NFL game speed after his injury.

I think I might venture to youtube to see if I can find a video of that fight. This is def TigerX worthy. Probably one of the best NFL fights I have seen.

Titans defensive back Cortland Finnegan has earned a reputation as one of the NFL's dirtiest players with a career of cheap shots and fan-infuriating hits. Today, Finnegan may have added to that reputation — by getting grass stains on his jersey while losing a fight to the Texans' Andre Johnson.

Johnson and Finnegan started scrapping during a play late in the Titans' visit to Houston, and Johnson's immediately got the upper hand, ripping off Finnegan's helmet and holding him at arm's length. He proceeds to wrestle Finnegan to the ground and hit him with a couple of punches, including a looping shot to the head while holding Finnegan down.

Both players were ejected from the game for their involvement in the fight, and are likely to receive suspensions from the NFL. Johnson, in particular, could face a lengthy one, for throwing punches at a player without a helmet on.

But it's not likely that most NFL fans will forget that Johnson, one of the NFL's more talented players, did his scrapping with one of the more hated players in the game today. Or that he won.

True dat.  Pasty ginger albino boy toted a whooping courtesy of AJ.  And the thing is, AJ is one of the classiest guys in the NFL - NOTHING but good stuff ever said about him.  Hall of Famer for sure.  So if whatever this punk ass POS was doing was enough to get AJ riled up, the asskicking was truly deserved.

Cincinnati wants to dump Palmer's salary and needs a durable QB.  I expect some heavy duty horse trading for Luck, anything to keep him from ending up at Carolina. Seattle screwed itself by winning a couple. I would rather see Cam go to Buffalo than with a Texas team. Tennessee is probably not going to happen. Many of these teams are abysmal so putting fans in the seats are their best hope, and who better than our latest Heisman winner? Then again he might come back for another memory (Archie Griffin) and work on his game.

If I was Cam and got drafted by Buffalo I would be like, "No thanks, I've already been to juco once."  Then I would call up Bo for some batting tips.

So, you don't Miami will do some hard negotiating to get Cam. The thing that some of these NFL guys will be considering is the type offense Cam was running here at Auburn. Yes, they will see he has the arm but I would bet that the type O is a huge factor. You add that to the fact that Miami needs a QB in a bad way and they run similar type plays as Malzahn calls, I think Cam is bound for the Dolphins.
