Title: Comparing Tim Tebow (2007) with Cam Newton (2010)
Post by: Brian Ross on December 08, 2010, 09:23:37 PM
Hey guys, I wrote an article comparing Tim Tebow, during his 2007 Heisman winning/NC winning year, with Cam Newton who is en route to receive both aforementioned awards. The numbers for passing aren't as in-depth as I would've liked, but I had a content limit so I had to stick to the bare bones version.

http://sportales.com/football/comparing-tim-tebow-2007-with-cam-newton-2010/ (http://sportales.com/football/comparing-tim-tebow-2007-with-cam-newton-2010/)

That article leads to a Part II that covers passing.

What do you guys think about the comparison? Which QB would you rather have on your team when playing Oregon in the NC game?

By the way, I'm new here, and my name is Brian. Nice to meet y'all and War Eagle!

I would rather have a bigger, faster, stronger armed version of Tim Tebow...and he'd have to throw tight fucking spirals.  So, I'm saying that I'd rather have Cam "Bad Ass, Mutha Fucka" Newton as my QB.

"I would rather have a bigger, faster, stronger armed version of Tim Tebow...and he'd have to throw tight phuking spirals."

Sounds like Cam.

Your article appears to say that Tebow won the Heisman the same year he won the national championship.

Quote
Newton seems to have a lock on the 2010 Heisman Trophy, while Tebow took the Heisman in 2007. Newton and the Auburn Tigers are going to the 2010 BCS National Championship, while Tebow led the Florida Gators to the 2007 BCS National Championship.

Also, are you comparing Tebow's Heisman season to Cam's 2010 season?  Might want to edit in a spot that clarifies that.

One thing that won't be measured is Cam's worth to this Auburn team.

I think Tebow was a great college football player, and he definitely deserves to be placed in that special group of legendary players.  On the other hand, Tebow was surrounded by stellar talent and was starting for a team expected to win championships.

Cam is, to be honest, surrounded by not-so-NFL-ready football players.  Cam's value is very hard to measure, and the only way to measure his worth is by how many wins Auburn has.  Without Cam, how many losses does Auburn have?  Miss St?  Kentucky?  Arkansas?  LSU?  Georgia?  Alabama?  Clemson?  South Carolina Part Uno?

Can you definitively state that Auburn had other players on offense to lead them over those teams?  Were we not close to a 5-7 season?  Did we not watch Cam single handedly make big plays to help Auburn go over the top of some very tough opponents?  Also, you have to factor in how many adjustments defenses have to make just to cover Cam.  That opens up lanes for the other offensive players to be successful.

Also, Tebow was loved and referred by everyone in college football.  Everyone wanted to see him succeed unless your team was on Florida's schedule.  Cam has overcome adversity that no eligible football player should go through, and he did it with a smile on his face.

So while I respect and admire Tim Tebow, I don't think he's anywhere near the caliber of Cam Newton.

Oh and by the way, have your dog assume the position.

Wrong, Daniel Cobb is who I was referring to.....

Essentially, the team is the same from last years 8-5 batch, except for QB.  Yes, Ben Tate was a lot of fun to watch, but I think Dyer and OMac have done fine in that role.

Cam's done more with less, I think.

Good to Great ain't just a catchy slogan.  This year, it's the truth.  And Cam is responsible.  I think he made the rest of his teamates want to do better.  They saw that with extra effort on their part, Cam could get them where they wanted to go. And he did.

Leadership.  Can't discount it.
