Auburn’s thrilling 28-27 come-from-behind victory over Alabama in Friday’s Iron Bowl may have been college football’s best game of the year.

It also drew the biggest overnight TV rating of any college football game on any TV network this season, CBS said Saturday.

The duel between No. 2 Auburn and defending national champion Alabama drew a 7.5 rating, up 56% from the 4.8 rating for last year’s Iron Bowl.

The second half comeback engineered by Auburn’s Heisman Trophy candidate Cam Newton drew viewers in droves. CBS’ game rating peaked at a 10.6 from 6:00-6:15 p.m. ET.–Michael McCarthy
