Thayer Evans is a "journalist." He presently works as the Senior College Football Writer for FOXSports.com. He previously wrote for The New York Times and the Houston Chronicle, and has also written for various other publications, including The Economist, USA Today and The Washington Post.
However, it is more appropriate to term Mr. Evans as a blogger. Most recently he has taken to becoming a one-man investigator of Cameron Newton, son of Cecil and Jackie Newton, starting quarterback at Auburn University. Mr. Evans has fans of the athletic team up in arms over his seemingly biased blogs incriminating Mr. Newton in alleged illegal activities quoting unnamed and unreferenced sources.[1] Mr. Evans has uncovered Theft, Academic Fraud/Cheating and numerous lies made by the Newtons.
Evans' list of notable periodicals embellishes his true life history when considering he did not graduate from a college of journalism, and he served in only short stints with each publication. His full academic record of colleges attended, place of birth, and current age awaits his disclosure and remains conspicuously absent in the promotion about him spotlighted on his blog.[2]
New info: There is a reportedly a source claiming that Evans himself paid Kenny Rogers, the former Mississippi State player turned agent or "runner", to claim that he represented the Newtons. Through this source, it is stated that Mr. Evans fabricated this whole story, again this is cited from a "source." These are just allegations at this point, not facts, just as with what Mr. Evans is using on Cameron Newton.

A point to be made here, and it illustrates part of the problem with things like this. It doesn't say he didn't go to college. It says he didn't graduate from a college of journalism. That could be read one of several ways, and I suspect it's intentionally written that way just for that reason.

I'm so tired of the mysterious....
Cam might have been taking money to go to Auburn if my source is correct in saying John Bond might have said that two guys in between him and Kenny Rogers reported that Kenny Rogers said that Cecil Newton would be willing to send Cam to Miss St if Miss State paid upwards of $200k.
But even though that's hard to prove, we know that Cam might have cheated on a test and got a few parking tickets, so surely you can see how little integrity this kid has which means he must have been taking some money from Auburn if he spurned $200k that may or may not have been offerred by Miss State in order to go to Auburn which has already been cleared to play Cameron Newton.
All of this reported by a guy who didn't graduate from a college of journalism but that doesn't mean he didn't take a few class or get his doctorate in art history while thinking about being a journalist as a side gig.

Oh and in case you missed it, Thayer Evans was allegedly hospitalized today for unknown reasons. Chizad is also reporting that it is because Thayer Evans has the goat AIDS, according to a source close to Thayer's asshole.
