Title: But somehow this is okay...
Post by: Tiger Wench on November 09, 2010, 10:24:34 AM
Lest we all forget... LaMichael James - the other Heisman frontrunner... WENT TO FUCKING JAIL FOR BEATING UP HIS GIRLFRIEND AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!  But he can find redemption and ask for forgiveness and move on and be a better man... and Cam has to deal with shit from YEARS ago???

That is BULLSHIT!!

Quote
Oregon running back LaMichael James was suspended for the season opener after pleading guilty early Friday to a misdemeanor harassment charge stemming from an altercation with his former girlfriend.

James entered his plea and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and 24 months of probation. He reported to jail on Friday afternoon but was quickly released and instead put on electronic surveillance for the duration of his sentence.

LaMichael James reported to jail on Friday afternoon but was later released and put on electronic surveillance.

Deputy District Attorney Alex Gardner had said earlier that it was unlikely James would serve jail time because of overcrowding, and because his offense was relatively minor and he was considered low-risk.

James, who set a Pac-10 freshman record with more than 1,500 yards rushing last season, originally faced five misdemeanor charges, including strangulation, harassment and assault. All but one harassment charge were dropped.

In a statement that was included in court documents related to the case, James apologized to the victim, a former girlfriend. She claimed he grabbed her neck and pushed her to the ground during an argument on Feb. 15.

"I hope to put this matter behind me now and learn from it. I have made a mistake and accept the consequences," the statement said. "I look forward to demonstrating to my University, to my team and to the community that I am a better man than recent events suggest."

James rushed for 1,546 yards last season as a freshman, the ninth-highest total in the nation. He had seven consecutive 100-yard games before Ohio State limited him to 70 in Oregon's 26-17 loss in the Rose Bowl.

Oregon apparently likes to recruit angry, abusive running backs.

I wonder if she was a Boise fan?

How have I not heard about this, fucking at ALL?

I have heard Heisman voters say they are voting for this guy because of Cam's character issues.

Are you fucking kidding me?

Oh, Chad - it happened back in March of this year - not relevant AT ALL to this season.  After all, this young man took his punishment and learned from his mistakes.  After all, he has earned the right to a second chance.  I am sure he will never try to choke out his girlfriend ever again.

I agree.
Still haven't heard a single word about this nationally or even locally. Why is this not being talked about? Completely insane.

Email brigade. Fire this off to some national, i.e. ESPN, correspondents.

It's not relevant to the Cam Newton smear campaign.

It's pretty fucking obvious what's going on here.  It's sickening, isn't it?  Doesn't it make you nauseated?

There are grown men making good money using their status to ruin a college kid's life because some old farty coach is throwing a temper tantrum.
