Source: Newton left Florida over cheating scandal
Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton had three different instances of academic cheating while attending the University of Florida and faced potential expulsion from the university, according to a source. Newton, considered the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy, attended Florida in 2007 and 2008 before transferring to Blinn College, a junior college in Texas. He first violated Florida’s student honor code by cheating in a class during his freshman year, according to the source. Newton was arrested for the theft of a laptop from a Florida student’s dorm room in November 2008. He again violated the university’s honor code by putting his name on another student’s paper and turning it in, according to the source. Newton was caught after the instructor asked the real author of the paper why he had not turned in his work, the source said. According to the source, after the student said he had turned in a paper, he and the instructor went through all the submissions and discovered that Newton had put his name on the paper in question. Newton subsequently turned in a second paper to the instructor, but it was later found to have been purchased off the Internet, according to the source. The source said Newton was to appear for a hearing in front of Florida’s Student Conduct Committee during the spring semester of 2009, but instead transferred to Blinn College. The committee could have levied sanctions against Newton that included suspension and expulsion from the university.
“He knew that he was facing a bad outcome,†the source said. Auburn officials did not return telephone messages, text messages or e-mails as of late Monday. His father, Cecil Newton Sr., declined to comment on his son’s academic past. “I wasn’t there,†the elder Newton said. “I cannot confirm or deny. At a time like this, I’m taking a defensive posture.
Last month, Newton, and his father, a pastor, told Sports Illustrated that the younger Newton decided to transfer from Florida in early January 2009 when Tim Tebow opted to remain for his senior year, a move that would have forced Newton into back-up status for another season. Newton, however, wasn’t even enrolled at Florida for the spring semester of 2009 when he decided to transfer, according to the source. The revelations of Newton’s academic cheating come less than a week after ESPN.com reported that a man named Kenny Rogers claimed to represent Newton and allegedly sought $180,000 for him to attend Mississippi State. Rogers allegedly told former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond that other schools had already offered $200,000. The NCAA is investigating that matter. The Newtons and Rogers have denied the allegations.
Auburn has said Newton is eligible, and Auburn Athletic Director Jay Jacobs told USA Today that the school has not found any issues with Newton’s eligibility since starting to look in to it this past summer. But he also said that it’s “not a closed matter†and that the review is “still ongoing.†The dual threat transferred from Blinn College to Auburn in January and has led the Tigers to a 10-0 record and No. 2 rating in the Bowl Championship Series standings. Newton has thrown for 1,890 yards and 19 touchdowns, while also leading the SEC in rushing with 1,146 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Cam has already said that he made mistakes at Florida...what's next??? Maybe some HS private information? I don't think this Thayer guy knows who the fuck he's dealing with. This is a fanbase that unites pretty fuckin strongly, especially against little pieces of shit like Thayer. Time to call in a favor from the Woopig Nation, let's get all the dirt on this cock sucker. I'm willing to bet there's a Fuckin Shitload. I would like for the University to say fuck the SEC fine, or whatever, and speak out against hack writers like him, Low, Schlabaugh, Bianci, Woodbammer. I'd bet that Woodbammer is itching to get in on this "Let's Bash Cam Into Oblivion" campain.

The Federal Education Privacy and Protection Act makes all academic and disciplinary records confidential....correct?
So, not only is Thayer in on this but UF is as well.....correct? Because the "unidentified source" would have to be someone in the AD Dept or someone that received the information and gave it to this hack.

If UF knew that Cam was cheating, and I don't know how you don't, why would Mullen have recruited him to go to MSU in the first place?

Breaking News! Cam Newton was the shooter on the grassy knoll!
I also heard he faked the Apollo 11 Moon landing.
-
Damn, just damn. I've never seen someone with a bigger hard on to ruin a player, or a university over something that never happened on and isn't alleged to have happened (if it happened at all) on Auburn's watch.

I don't think this guy will let up Prowler. He isn't so far removed from college life himself at 30 to err on the side of caution or cut a kid a break. Fox is a third rate gossip source from top to bottom. Ken Rosenthal (MLB) is the only true sports writer on board and the rest are digging in dumpsters trying to advance beyond scumbag status. Florida has had more than its share of past problems and I don't doubt those leading Evans around have the green light to cooperate wholeheartedly. Let's hope that no one ever saw Cam flush a goldfish down the pooper or that the Newton's still owe outstanding lunch room fees. I sense that Evans will stop only after Cam leaves Auburn.

This just in. In the third grade, Cam traded a ham sandwich for a snack pack, a twinkie, and a bag of cheetos. He led the victim to believe that the sandwich was magical and valued higher than the three treats he had received in return, but according to one reliable source, he had his fingers crossed during the transaction.
Details to follow...

I heard Colin Cowherd was involved just before he was cut from the gymnastics team.

I have an unnamed source that says that Thayer Evans is involved in a child rape ring that involves the sacrificing of newborn puppies.
I will not name names, and there's no way for this information to be verified or not, but trust me, some guy said it.

Was watching espnu this morning about 730 and saw a headline run across the bottom detailing Cam cheating on tests at Florida in 3 separate instances.....it referenced. Anyone got a linky? And when is the media gonna let this old news go? Doing their best to bring the boy down.

I hope for his sake he has not taken any sociology classes under Jim Gundlach.

Attention is what Evan's craves and any statement by the Newtons will only encourage this guy who obviously wants a showdown. Chizik is keeping it together so far without blasting the guy. I would be interested to know what Jacobs is doing behind the scenes now that ESPN is perpetuating this slanderous crap.

Report: Cam Newton in cheating scandals at UF
Posted by Adam Jacobi
It seemed virtually impossible after last week , but somehow, the news surrounding Cam Newton 's pre-Auburn years seems to have gotten worse. According to a Fox Sports report, Newton was allegedly involved in multiple academic cheating controversies while enrolled at Florida before he transferred to Blinn Junior College in 2008. The allegations are of a very serious nature, the type that often results in suspension and expulsion from a university. There are three incidents in question here, and it's awfully telling that the least serious of the three is that Newton purchased a term paper online, apparently unaware that professors know how to use the Internet.
We're not going to be able to ascertain the truthfulness of these reports, so we'll just reiterate that they're apparently based solely on the one source that Fox Sports cites in their report. We'll just point out that it's abundantly clear that Fox's source for this scandal is Florida-based; it's not as if some line cook in Tuscaloosa can claim "knowledge of the situation" where it concerns academic matters at the University of Florida, after all. And it's that Florida connection that only intensifies rumors that lingered the first time around that Urban Meyer (or someone in his camp) was responsible for the initial leak of the Newton investigation in the first place .
After all, this revelation serves no actual purpose where the rest of this football season is concerned; Newton's not about to be declared ineligible over allegations that occurred at a different school years ago. The fact remains that there have been no such allegations about Newton since his time at Florida, and it's not as if every single professor at Auburn is under the athletic department's thumb. Go ahead, tell a random professor at any school that he has to edit his gradebook in a football player's favor. See what happens.
So if this report won't affect Newton's eligibility anywhere but at Florida, what purpose does it actually serve? If Newton's eligibility were on trial and in front of a judge, this report would be immediately thrown out over relevance. Cam Newton is an Auburn student whose academic bona fides are, at this time, not in question. Whether he left Florida facing problems down the road is Auburn's problem insofar as the school should be on the lookout for further shenanigans. Past that, this comes off far more as a grade-level psy-ops campaign from Gainesville than anything the NCAA, SEC, or Heisman voters should be aware of.

A voice of reason. A little sanity interjected into the proceedings.
-
Christ on a crutch. I have never seen such a full blown attempt at character assassination.
Auburn is not alleged to have done anything. Cam is not alleged to have done anything while a student at Auburn.
IF anything happened at UF, then apparently Meyer swept it all under the rug. He's the one-armed man in this scenario.

Thayer's about to be on JOX in 10 minutes.

Attempted character assassination of Cam Newton continues
Kevin Scarbinsky, Birmingham News Kevin Scarbinsky, Birmingham News
That's what this is. There's no other way to describe it. Even if the latest allegations against Cam Newton are true, they add up to a serious attempt at character assassination.
In 26 years in this business, I've never seen anything like it.
Less than a week after ESPN.com reported that someone who said he represented the Newton camp tried to sell his services to Mississippi State, FoxSports.com has reported that Newton had "three different instances of academic cheating at Florida and faced potential expulsion from the university."
The story bases this damaging allegation on "a source."
Even if true, Newton left Florida after the 2008 fall semester. He spent 2009 at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. He arrived at Auburn in January of 2010.
That's a lot of water under a lot of bridges in the interim.
So why is this latest story relevant in 2010?
Thayer Evans, the senior college football writer for FoxSports.com, who wrote this story, already had written an opinion piece that said the Newton story of redemption is "too good to be true." Perhaps, but only if he was a flawed young man who made serious mistakes during his two years in Gainesville and didn't learn from them or change as a result of them.
If that were true, why did Dan Mullen, who was Newton's position coach at Florida in 2007 and 2008, who should've known about these allegations at the time, still want to sign Newton last winter to play at Mississippi State?
Mullen must've seen some good in Newton beyond his ability to run the spread.
At Auburn, by all accounts, Newton has been more than the best player in college football. He's been a team leader and a solid citizen. You could make a strong case that the young man arrived at Auburn as a changed man.
Unless you wanted to insinuate that, despite his record-breaking season at Auburn and Florida's struggles at the quarterback position, the Gators are glad he's gone because he was, is and always will be a bad man.
Maybe Newton wasn't a saint when he started college. Maybe he got caught up in Urban Meyer's Florida football culture of players who scoff at the law and a head coach who enables them by slapping them on the wrist when they get caught.
The latest story says that Newton's first alleged instance of academic cheating at Florida occurred during his freshman year of 2007. Did Meyer take a strong stand at that time and suspend him?
There's no public record that he did. To the contrary, as the backup to Tim Tebow, Newton played in five games that season.
Then again, giving players extra chances to redeem themselves is the Meyer way.
Auburn should do today something that most schools don't do when one of their players is under attack, something that Auburn did Saturday after the Chattanooga game.
The school should put Newton at the podium at Gene Chizik's weekly press conference and let him answer questions. He may not be able to answer every question, but he should address these academic cheating allegations.
If they're true, he should admit it and tell the world the difference between Cam Newton in 2007-08 and 2010. If they're false, he should climb to the top of the football building and shout it from the rooftop.
Forget the SEC and BCS title chases. Something more important is at stake here. It's a young man's character and reputation.
Someone has chosen to drag Newton back in time. Only he can go back and close that chapter of his life before he can move on.

Ha, Scarbs read my mind!
This is more good stuff from ITAT re: Gregg Doyel:
Gregg was just on 790 the zone and outlined his story. He said he confirmed through Bond's lawyer that there were in fact two people b/w he and rogers yet NYT nor ESPN.com wanted to research further because they knew it would lead no where. He also raised serious concerns with Florida. He stated their were reports that UM, Mullen and Bonds did have a talk and that UM insisted this go public, but that he could not confirm. However with the recent fox reports he said that it is clear that Florida, UM, etc is definitely fueling this and that they have broken the law by releasing federal documents. Said that he was getting tweeted by UF compliance office telling him to shut up. He finished with saying i amd a UF grad and disappointed in my university and it's involvement with this scandal. He also said the end of his article he raises the single most question, which is who is John Bond and why would anyone even approach him for bag money. He left the answer up to his readers but did state look at who was his position coach and who he GA'd under leads you to believe that our past is not always as bright.

Fox Sports Editor in Charge-
Are you serious for allowing this hack, Thayer Evans, to continue to represent Fox Sports.com? He's grasping. His latest articles on Cam Newton and Auburn University are simply slanted to ruin a young man's career and tarnish an outstanding university. It seems Thayer is standing at the gallows...before a verdict has been made. Is Thayer looking to become the star reporter? Working the odds? His source on the latest article...did you confirm this one?
Thayer needs to apologize for his failed attempt to tarnish Cam Newton and Auburn University.

Dear Editor in Charge,
I have read the Thayer Evans piece on Auburn/Cam Newton from last week and the most recent, and I would like to thank you. You have saved me some valuable time today. I have recently run out of toilet paper at my home and instead of going by a convenience store to purchase toilet paper I am printing out 300 copies of each story and using them to wipe myself properly this evening. Before you decide to delete this response you should consider two things, 1. I have a massive Thayer I have been saving since 8 a.m. this morning and 2. I will UPS the the outcome of said Thayer, on your dime of course, and you can post it as an Editorial on your website. At least that way, people will be clear that you are producing shit rather than actual journalism.

I'm writing in response to the article written by Thayer Evans, "Source: Newton left Florida after cheating scandal."
I'm curious if foxsports will respond to statements made by sources within the Student Conduct Committee at the University of Florida.
Please read this link. http://auburn.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1150363
After reading that, I'm left to conclude one of two things.
1) Thayer Evans has a personal vendetta against Auburn University, and specifically, Cam Newton.
or
2) Thayer Evans' contacts within the University of Florida are worried about keeping their jobs, and are denying his story.
In either event, I expect foxsports will do the right thing, and issue an apology to Cam Newton and his family.
Thanks,
Jonathan

My guess is that he was listening online to their show before coming on, and heard several folks call in posing very pointed questions regarding his sources, and verification of same, and pointing out what in his written shit was speculation hidden behind the vale of a small part being from "verified sources". I doubt he had a good answer for much of it.
