Title: Auburn #1?
Post by: JR4AU on October 24, 2010, 10:45:53 AM
ESPN's BCS guru just said Auburn should be the new #1 in the BCS standings.  Not in the human polls, but the BCS.   We shall see.

I don't see why not. Granted, Oregon is playing some Playstation football right now and putting up alot of points, but they have only played one ranked team (Stanford was #9 at the time). Boise St. is putting up good numbers as well, and they beat Va Tech (#10 at the time) and Oregon St (#24 at the time). Va Tech has recovered somewhat, and Oregon St hasn't. TCU has played one ranked team, the aforementioned Oregon St team that has fallen off the map.

AU has played 3 teams in the top 25, and while they haven't put up alot of style points, they have played as many top 25 teams as Oregon and BSU combined. That has to count for something.

I'd rather be #2 but I don't thinks its gonna matter what I think anyway. Leave Oregon at number #1. I agree with THS though, USC may take the Ducks down next week. Auburn just to keep their focus and continue to handle business, rolling out of Oxford next week with the W.

Don't think its a coincidence that Boise scheduled their 2 "hard" games early on. That is when the big dogs get upset. Clear sailing here on out for Boise and that SOS will hurt them in the end. Its in the BCS formula for a reason. Boise only has themselves to blame for playing Sisters of the Poor 10 of 12 games.

Since the BCS is what matters the most, here are the other polls for entertainment purposes only.

When will the Boise love finally subside? It gets less funny and cute with each passing week. 11 first place votes? 3 for Auburn, and 2 for TCU? Really? Really?

No shit, I seriously would have thought the voters would have put us over Boise. I figured that we would end up at #3 by beating LSU but that was based on a scenario that Oky wouldn't have lost and we would have jumped Boise. With the shift in the polls, I really thought we would be #2. I do, however, expect us to be #2 in the BCS rankings tonight.

Didn't realize that we've played, and won two more games than Boise.  That HAS to count towards the equation in AU's favor.

Wow, OU got HOSED!

Which gets me back to my "The pollsters have to do the right thing" being  :wartim:  Bammer loses to a once beaten USCe, and drops 7 spots, OU loses to still unbeaten MO, and they drop out of the top 10.  Fucking amazing.

Matters not though.  IF Auburn is #1 or #2 this evening, that means we're completely in control of our own destiny from here out.

How many teams, through 8 games, can say that they've not only played but beaten four teams that are ranked in the Top 25?  I can think of one, Auburn.  Miss State, South Cackylacky, Arkansas, LSU.

Alabama has beaten three so far and have three more on their schedule. I do not know your schedule off the top of my head but how many more top 25 teams will y'all get to play?

Wrong....
SPuat has played TWO ranked teams (Arkansas & South Cackylacky), but only beat ONE, Arkansas.  Y'all have three ranked teams left (LSU, MSU & AU).

No...Penn State was propped up to begin the season, so technically they were ranked.

Yeah, but I think the computers give them extra points because everybody they play has a week off before they play  them.

UF was ranked too, but I speak Prowlerese and I believe he meant currently ranked.

At this point I'd like to present the Auburn v BCS 3410 U.S. 13-0 (2004) and say those teams were ranked before the Alabama game and could possibly still be ranked had Alabama lost said games.

I could show you the actual text, but I no longer have access to the law library (AUF).

Also, congrats on the #1 ranking.  For the first time in a very long time, I'll actually be pulling for Auburn to win every game heading into the Iron Bowl.  The only Alabama has at this point is to upset the #1 ranked team to end the regular season.  So don't fuck it up.

I'm talking currently ranked, where it matters most in the 'puters.  (ex. If unranked team B beats #1 team A, it looks good for team B....until team A keeps getting beat week in-week out...then that win isn't so impressive anymore.)  The 'puters will reflect that (Auburn #3 in both polls, #1 in the 'puters...SPuat #6 in both polls, #12 in the 'puters).
