Not looking like Dyer will come up with the SEC Freshman of the Week award for us, but at least we've gotten one a week so far.

Auburn linebacker Josh Bynes is SEC defensive player of the week
Published: Monday, September 20, 2010, 10:02 AM
Charles Goldberg, Auburn Bureau
Auburn has the SEC defensive player of the week for the second straight week.
Linebacker Josh Bynes received the latest honor from the SEC Office on Monday morning.
Bynes, following in the footsteps of last week winner Nick Fairley, had a game-high 11 tackles in helping Auburn beat Clemson 27-24 in overtime last Saturday. Two of his tackles were for a loss. He also deflected pass.
It was the fifth time in Bynes' career he's had double-digit tackles in a game. He led Auburn in tackles last season, and is on top of the charts this year, with 23.
Auburn quarterback Cam Newton also has an SEC weekly award this season. He was named the offensive player of the week following the Tigers' season-opening victory.
-
He def earned it. Dude was already all over the field and in on just about every freaking tackle it seemed. What makes it even better is the fact he did this all the while being so slow. :sarcasm:

There is clearly talent on the defensive side of the ball (see: two SEC POW selections). The scheme, then, it would seem is the problem.

This. First off, I find it somewhat Luda-Chris to say you have to play a guessing game with Clemson because they started with 2 patsies. It's the same team and same staff as last year. Arky State I somewhat understand because the OC came from high school and no one knew anything. But Clemson?
Second, I can't skress enough how frustrating it was to watch Clemson run 462 screens in a row and our D never recognize it the first time. Admittedley, they did make some adjustments and shut Clemson down for about 2+ quarters, but that was one play that just befuzzled our entire line. I'm certanly no corch, but I believe I'd be telling my line...."Now, let's go over this again. If your man let's you go free to the QB, you may, just may want to look behind you and/or turn and run with him...just sayin'"
-
I know I am being ridiculed here, but I know what I saw. Our LB's are slow as shit and played poorly. Bynes is NOT going to be anyone that covers any one in a man to man or play any type of pass supporting zone. He's just not. Why do you think Clemson racked up 4738 yards in the first half. They played those screens, draws and counters and fucked our LB's all up. We started blitzing like hell with Bynes up the middle in the second half and he started making plays. I have no clue of the stats, but I wonder how many tackles Bynes had in the first half? And how many tackles he had for loss in the first half. My guess, it wasn't pretty. However, I personally give credit to Roof for getting this dude in positions to make plays. Blitz him and let him shoot gaps on run plays. That's when he is affective.
And did anyone else watch Stevens? Holy shit. I was begging for Eltoro back. And that ain't saying much.
That's just me though. I may be a dumb ass...
-
Yes....you're a dumbass. :poke:
Agreed on Bynes. There was one replay they showed in the second half where the Clemson runner was knocked out of bounds over on the Clemson sideline. When they showed the replay, Bynes was getting smoked by D-Linemen running to the play. Nice boy, but a little slow.
Byens is a between the tackles player. Like WE said, let him stuff the middle and blitz skrate ahead and cause havoc. We're lucky if Freeman figures out what side to line up on.
-

Yes, you are correct, Stephens first game back didn't go that well for him. I tend to believe that missing those first two games had him behind just a bit in real time game speed.
-
What I saw was us playing a lot of zone in the 1st and 2nd Quarter and then switching mainly to man, in the 3rd and 4th quarters. I'm no Ted Roof but something tells me we should play more man to man.

You are wise Obewon Kenuttsack. At the game, that's what this "expert" next to me was yelling over and over...but he was right. They were picking the zone apart underneath. When we manned up, things changed. Honestly, I was glad to see us get in their faces on the last drive of the MSU game. It was like they knew Fairley and company would get pressure so they let the corners press the issue. On the infamous dropped pass, the coverage was actually tight as hell but we forced an early...and bad throw that went behind the WR. To his credit, he made the adjustment but also to his credit, he dropped the pass.
I really think you've hit on something in that I think our D is much better off bringing the heat on the QB and letting our DB's get in the faces of the WR's.

The only problem with playing man is Bynes having to cover a back out of the back field. But you are right, I think we are going to see more man, and then Bynes blitzing, and not having to cover anyone.
Also, Snaggle, this is another reason why I said our DB's weren't necessarily the problem. I honestly think we are just weak in the middle.

I do see your points, and I am not harping on you but as slow as our LB's are made out to be, they sure have stood up when it counted; although sitting down on your ass during a game would certainly make you look very slow. I am willing to bet that we will see a lot more man also. We seem to do tons better. We might give up some yardage at times but I don't think it would be nearly as much. The young LB's are gonna have to come in though and step up dammit.

Question, where's all the rotating and depth at LB? I saw Curry get in a couple of plays early but didn't notice him anymore after that. Eltoro and Stevens switched out some. I agree that Bynes is not the "swiftest" LB in the country but could some of it be him getting worn down? Clemson ran 82 plays and I would imagine Bynes was in on at least 78 of those.

Thats what I am wondering, where are the young'ns? They need to step up so they can get in and give the starters a breather shit. I do think that Bynes being in there so much contributes to some def slowness. I mean you take Clemson for example, they were rotating there RB's constantly so naturally when they come through the line, they're gonna have more pep in their step. I would say that Bynes does pretty damn well considering the number of snaps he is in there.

I am surprised myself that the young guys haven't played. I thought that Holland and Owens would play this year. I am not sure what's going on with that. Curry is the only youngster I saw play at LB. And I didn't even see Eltoro too much...
-
Gaston and Evans are listed as 2nd team on the last depth chart I saw. Evans started and played about the whole game against the national champions last year and he's up to 230. And he's not seeing the field because....?
I was glad to see Whitaker and Lemonier getting some good snaps. The interior rotation of Fairley, Clayton, Blanc and Whitaker looks to be pretty effective and now Egua and Lemonier put us a solid 2 deep at DE.

Actually, for the second week in a row, and third time in the last four games, Josh Bynes played every defensive snap. He may have been on coverage and return teams as well. I think he also drove the cart that picked up Greene and the Clemson guy, and he was selling programs before the game. At halftime he played sousaphone, and after the game he was on the clean-up crew in the west upper deck.
-
Bynes was helping the police wave traffic onto highway 280.
He was still suited up. This was after he drove Clemson to the airport.
-
After that, he took down the GameDay set
-
...flew the Clemson team back home...
-
You know those three current and one former player who text Prowler da werd from da skreets? Josh Bynes is all of them

Not a text from the current players and one former player. They room together at on off campus townhouse...I hung out with the former player after the morning festivities of Game Day, then I partied with the rest after the game It was fuckin' nuts to say the least, they had a DJ on the rooftop. And yes, Josh Bynes was all of them, he was also the DJ.
I haven't seen Auburn that packed in a very long time. Whenever you run outta hotdogs in the 2nd Qtr, then water in the third, that tells me that Auburn wasn't prepared.

I was at that party and Josh Bynes had to take a break from the DJ booth to stop traffic, pick my car up and move it to the front of the line just so that I could leave. It was freakin nutz! Party with the players, I hear ya Prowler!

When Josh Bynes isn't planting running backs into the turf, he's woofing down the gut rockets and drankin' up the water. If Josh Bynes wanted anyone else to have a hotdog or water, Josh Bynes would have given it to them. Josh Bynes didn't share, because in Josh Bynes' eyes, we're all weak and unworthy of Josh Bynes' generosity.
Dasani and Ziegler - the official gametime snack of Josh Bynes.

Funny or not...I seen thatspetty's car being picked up.
Nick Fairley had to push that fuckin' monster truck outta the way before Bynes could pick thatspetty's car up. Goddamn insane party, I think Paul Wall showed up at some point, sippin' on dat purple drank with a couple police officers......no one cared, it was that fuckin' crazy.
-
Before the party/Dj gig Bynes stood at Toomers Corner, so fans could throw toilet paper at him.

If it is funny, or not, we now know that you knew it was or wasn't first. Way to let the cat out of the bag.

Yep...Bynes is effective on anything between the tackles. This, in large part, is due to our improved play at DT. Outside that, Bynes can't run in coverage, and isn't going to run down any sweeps or screens without the force making them cut back inside. In short, he's not a sideline to sidline ILB. That can be fine IF our DE's, OLBs, and Safeties can get their jobs done in contain. They're not. We are for shit on anything hitting the edges.
-

Our DBs are talented, and fast enough to cover...they've even been covering well. Unfortunately, there's now a school of thought on DBs that has them being taught to not give up speed and ground to turn and look for the ball. To basically face guard receivers or try to jar the ball loose when they see the receiver going for the catch, instead of playing the ball. I don't like it. I also see our OLBs and DBs getting cut blocked in the open field constantly.
-
Damn, I just caught that. I always thought that was a little Homer Simpson. I never realized it was RWS' head on that smiliy.
That's why I try to use it whenever humanly applicable.
