Auburn's Nick Fairley is SEC defensive player of week

Charles Goldberg -- The Birmingham News

Fairley was named the league defensive player of the week after helping spark the Tigers to a 17-14 win over Mississippi State. Fairley had the best game of his career which included an interception that Auburn followed up with a touchdown, a fumble recovery that led to a field goal, 1 ½ sacks and five tackles, including 2 ½ for a loss.

Defensive coordinator Ted Roof said Sunday night that Fairley is improving.

"It's a combination of Nick buying into what we're doing and experiencing some success, and also the work Tracy Rocker's done with him,'' Roof said. "I think Coach Rocker's done a wonderful job with him in his development. He has not arrived. There's a lot of room for growth. But that's a major step in the right direction. Now we'l see if he can take the next step."

Fairley is the first Tiger since Karibi Dede in 2005 to record a fumble recovery and an interception in an SEC game.
Cam gets Offensive POTW last week. Fairley gets Defensive POTW this week.

Not a bad start on the season. Hopefully Dyer can pick up Freshman of the week against Clemson to complete the trifecta!

I can def see Dyer doing so. I do believe that Fairley will continue to be a dominant force on the DL. With Stephens back as well, I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see our D pin their ears back.

BTW - Dyer and Cam COULD have a good night this Saturday seeing as how Clemson gave up 21 to.....Presbyterian.  Hope springs eternal that the Clemson D from Sat night shows up to JHS.

Fa show.

He has gotten the nod as starter this week since Fannin's out with an injury.

I am almost willing to bet anyone that Dyer has a 100+ rushing night against Clemson. Like Chad said, Dyer gets the nod as the starter. With a whole game to play, I am believing Dyer will shine bright. Once this happens, the opposing D's will have another player to be concerned with. Once this happens, things start opening up. Me excited!

Fairley was incredible.  I actually predicted the DPOW to the corndog Thursday night after the game.  But he is used to me being right all the time...

That was a technical error.  Faulty design on the part of Volvo to put the jack next to my cupholder.
