Alabama's Mark Ingram out for opener
Alabama running back Mark Ingram suffered a knee injury late in Monday's practice, coach Nick Saban announced in a statement Tuesday, and has been ruled out for Saturday's season opener against San Jose State.
Ingram, who last year became the first Crimson Tide player to win a Heisman Trophy, had "an arthroscopic procedure" done Tuesday morning, according to the statement.
"It was a situation where everyone involved thought it would be better to take care of now, so he would not have any issues with it later in the season," Saban said.

Alabama's Heisman Trophy-winning tailback Mark Ingram underwent arthroscopic surgery this morning on his left knee, according to a statement by Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban.
Ingram will be out for Saturday's game against San Jose State and evaluated on a week-to-week basis after that. Alabama hosts Penn State on Sept. 11 and visits Duke on Sept. 18.
"It was a situation where everyone involved thought it would be better to take care of now, so he would not have any issues with it later in the season," Saban said.
Ingram, a junior, hurt his knee late in practice on Monday. Saban said this morning's minor surgery was successful and performed by Dr. Lyle Cain and Dr. James Andrews.
The normal recovery for a knee scope is a few weeks.
"We have full confidence in our medical staff and we know the doctors and athletic trainers will do an outstanding job in taking care of Mark and assisting him in his rehab," Saban said.
"Mark will definitely be out for this week's game against San Jose State and we will manage this on a week to week basis beyond this week. We will make every decision in the future based on what's best for Mark and his career as we consult with Dr. Cain and Dr. Andrews on his progress. This is not an injury that will affect Mark's future ability to make a full recovery in a relatively short time frame."
Trent Richardson will step into the starting role for this weekend's game with redshirt freshman Eddie Lacy becoming the backup.

Translation to English: We don't need him to shit stomp San Jose State, but if Penn State is within two touchdowns, you can bet your ass he will be on the field, his pro career be damned.

I think we have a little skewed perception of Mr. Ingram since Auburn stuffed him and the feeling was that he waved the white flag. However.....Auburn was the only one that's stopped him in 2 years time.
Richardson is definitely a bad ass but you let him take a helmet to the knee or roll an ankle Saturday. With Ingram out, that changes things big time. You go from the best 1-2 punch in the nation to wondering who is going to step up.

Yeah, I know you got one that's probably as good, or better, but lets not get carried away until the others play. BTW, they keep saying he's week to week...he had the fucking knee scoped...he's out for a minimum 4 weeks, and that would be quick coming back. More like 6 would be my guess. Hate it for Ingram personally...as for bammer, it couldn't be more fitting...and no Heisman repeat!

While we're on the subject of things that may contribute to uat not doing as well as many are expecting this year, I was listening to JOX this morning and someone brought up a valid point that I hadn't thought about previously.
Javier Arenas not being on the team anymore. Kickers were instructed not to let him catch it because you were looking at at least 20 extra yards if he did. uat always had a short field to play from.
I could definitely see that adding a couple of losses to the schedule.

Bammer lost more than they're willing to admit publically. Well see if their mantra of "we're just reloading" will hold true or not.
I have posted some and won't bother with more...but there's some recent videos of Saban coaching defense...his defense is extremely complicated. Cover 3 isn't just "3 deep". It' takes lots of reading, passing off and exchange of responsibilities, not just in Cover 3, but most all his coverages. To think that losing all those experienced defensive players won't have any nagitive impact is craziness. How much is yet to be seen.

A leg breaking completely in half is a little different than a minor knee scope. I don't think Ingram's injury is a horrible injury or anything; I would guess a minor tear somewhere. They didn't even realize it was injured until after he finished practice, so he was still able to finish practice with it.

As Ive had 2 of these procedures on the same knee, both between the ages of 18-23, you are correct. You don't come back from a scope after a week or two - unless you want to ruin your knee forever.

Meniscus......minor relatively speaking as compared to what Carnell and Willis McGahee had, but still very significant. It is the shock absorber in the middle of your knee - nothing minor about. He will not be 100% after 1-2 weeks. I promise.

I agree, we're probably talking 6 weeks. And then he's got to get back to trusting his knee again. He was probably NFL bound after this season, but unless he comes out like a man possessed when he gets back on the field, I think he will be back for his senior season.

But....unless Trent gets hurt against SJS or during the PSU game, I wouldn't think this would affect them tremendously. Ingram didn't particularly fare well against Auburn but they still won the game. It does make PSU at least interesting now. I think those boys from the Northeast are gonna have leg cramps in record numbers down here in Sept.

Word on the street is that Eddie Lacy (3rd string) will tote the rock Saturday for the majority of the time. Trent will play but a heavy dose of Eddie is coming.

Now I'm even more glad he redshirted last season. Being able to tote the rock is good, but you have to know your protections and be able to pick up blitzes. Especially with how much we turn the TE loose. I think alot of people overlook that aspect of it. If he turns out to be as good as I think he will, having him, Ingram, and Richardson in the stable is one hell of a combination. Then you still have a guy like Corey Grant as well.

I wouldn't count on Grant as much as a pure RB. I watched a few of his games in HS in person. It seemed that he liked to avoid contact which would really go against McElwain's style. He's more of an outside guy like McCalebb. I'd say he is a PR unless an emergency happens with MI, TR and EL all out.

I think in the future he will become another wrinkle in the offense. Like you, I think he would be good on the outside, let him play some slot, etc. I think he would be good in that role. But no, he's not going to be an every down bruiser like Ingram/Richardson/Lacy.
-

You can't tell most bammers that...they start throwing out the "you're obsessed" bullshit if you do. Cause we all know that Auburn fans discussing relevant bammer news means we're obsessed with bammer.
-
The minute I heard "scoped" I thought, well, there goes half his season. Even with the most minimal procedure, the pounding the knee would take would never allow it to heal properly. The initial reports of him probably just missing the SJS game were a little premature IMO.

But it's what bammers wanted to hear, and the Alabama News Media aint ever gonna say or print shit that bammers don't want to hear or read. See they print that now, and when Saban tells them something else, they'll drone on about how Saban was using the media to speak to his team or as a recruiting tool because he measures every word he says for those two reasons.

Saban said that Ingram would be out for SJSU, that it would be taken on a week-to-week basis beyond that point, and they expected a relatively short recovery time frame. I took that as 3-4 games, at least. If somebody took that as "will probably play week 2", that's their fault for being stupid.

While I agree with your statement...Rick Karle and company are saying it more like "he will be out 1 week and then it is week-to-week after that" so as not to start a riot at the spot where Saban's statue will someday sit.

I have said from the start four weeks. Which means he will miss the SJS, Penn St, Duke and Arky. If he comes back sooner great but I do not see it. He went under the knife like right then which led me to believe it was a tear (Wench said it) and it could not be rehabed. I could be wrong but only time will tell.
