Well, let's see where it goes from here.
Suspended for 30 days starting right now?
-
???..who suspended him? The NCAA, SEC? It said Alabama will immediately apply for reinstatement.
-
The NCAA will make the ultimate ruling on when, or if, Dareus will be reinstated.
30 days, or 1 day. It's all preliminary at this point. This aint the final word.
-
It is my understanding that the school declares him ineligible, and submits their information to the NCAA. The NCAA then has final say. However, the school will petition for reinstatement if they feel the punishment isn't worthy of a season long (or shorter) suspension.
However, again, it will be up the NCAA to give the final ruling based on what they receive or discover on their own.

Thanks.
Stupid as hell on all these players' parts.

Pretty much everybody should have seen this coming. They did the same thing with the Julio and Mark Ingram deal.
The school rules him as ineligible. They then turn around and submit paperwork to have him reinstated. When the NCAA accepts him as eligible, then he's in the clear, and the NCAA can't retroactively take wins or anything else away down the road since they are the ones that cleared him eligible. It's kind of a "is this going to fuck us down the road" test.

You guys have this shit memorized. A couple of the crimson afflicted clock punchers were talking about this at work today. Said the same thing practically verbatim. I laughed, and they said the usual "Aubren duz eyut too." I asked for a source that would validate their claim. Ended the discussion.

No doubt, what a ridiculous comment. Prowler, you don't mind if the NCAA takes a look under the rugs at Auburn?
-
First... a few things...
1. It appears that UGA is the other school being visited by the NCAA over all this. Sorry, Birmingham, but your bitch ass is still not going to see the rugs lifted at AU.
2. I'm trying to find where, but it appears that Dareus is taking the always good approach of playing dumb. He's stating that he had no idea it was an agent's party. I'm sure, being a top 10 draft prospect, and it being all the way down at South Beach, he had no clue. I mean, I ALWAYS travel blind in my weekly travels, just to see where I MIGHT be able to do my job. My employer loves them some me.
This is blowing up and getting better and better. Seriously, if MD takes this stance, and they prove him wrong AT ALL, he'll make the Dez Bryant dealio look like a bake sale.
Count on Alabama to raise the bar on stupid. The other universities? Cooperating? Alabama? Fuck the way it's done. It's your fault because we can't help it if our players, that have been counseled over and over by our compliance folks, are too God damn stupid to not only NOT talk to the agents, but go a thousand miles to a party to some rich guys house that they don't even know. I love it.
-

Sure...go 'head, have at it, but this isn't about Auburn. Now is it? Yeah, didn't think so. Poor bammers, didn't get to hear all of the gloatin' over their 1,413th National Championship, because one of their players decided to take a PAID trip to Miami to attend a party put together by an AGENT for the players. This isn't all about the agent, the players are at fault too. But, just listen to Coach little bitch, he'll tell it to ya straight....."Look at my left hand, don't watch what the right hand is doing."

Oh, OH I KNOW WHY!!!!!!!
It's because Lopez Jones goes to Miami to party too....pretty sure he doesn't go alone either. The roof could be blown off this mutha fucka.
TUSCALOOSA, AL (WIAT) - On March 17th Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco was impressed. Not just with the Miami nightlife as he was putting his down time to good use, but also with a certain college wide receiver. Alabama's Julio Jones.
"Just saw college wide reciever JULIO JONES, dude is huge, I need to get in the weight room asap." That's how Ochocinco described his run-in with Jones to the Twitter world.
Thursday night after Alabama's final practice before Saturday's annual A-Day game Jones was able to weigh in on the issue.
When asked what his reaction to the story was Jones simply smiled and said "I mean the guy has to get in the weight room I guess."
Jones is listed at 6-4, 211 pounds while Ochocinco is 6-1, 192.
Jones, a native of Foley, Alabama, will be a junior this fall for the National Champion Crimson Tide. He has led the team in receiving his first two years amassing 101 catches and 1,520 yards. Many NFL Draft experts see him as a sure fire early entry into the 2011 NFL Draft.

Marcell Dareus has told Alabama officials that he was the only Crimson Tide football player who attended a Miami Beach party that's under NCAA investigation and that he was unaware the party allegedly was thrown by a sports agent, according to sources familiar with the school's internal investigation.

You mean...Cruise Gate, Grade Scandal Gate, Charger Gate, Air Plane Gate (Brandon Gibson) and Agent Gate (The second time - Andre Smith)?

As his mother lay dying in her Birmingham home, Marcell Dareus couldn't cope. He had to get away.
It was the middle of May. Spring classes at the University of Alabama were over. Summer classes and football conditioning didn't start until early June.
Along came an invitation from a friend to fly to Miami. The chance to hang out in South Beach sounded good, so off Dareus went to chill in the sun, sand and warm water.
Little did the star Alabama defensive end know what kind of hot water he was about to get into, according to sources close to the Dareus family.
Alabama officials are investigating the trip in the wake of reports that the visit included a stop at an agent-related party. Contact with an agent can jeopardize a player's eligibility. Dareus has not been questioned by the NCAA, a source close to his family said.
Dareus attended the party but claims he was lured to Miami under a false pretense, a source close to the family said. When Dareus discovered there were agents at the party, he asked to leave. Then he received grim news that his mother, Michelle Luckey, had died, and he abruptly returned to Birmingham.
The friend who arranged the trip was Marvin Austin, a star defensive lineman at North Carolina, a source close to the Dareus family said. Austin appears to be a central figure in a growing NCAA investigation into possible improper dealings between agents and college football players.
When Dareus made a recruiting visit to North Carolina during his senior year at Huffman High School, his host was Austin, then a freshman. The two players bonded.
As Alabama rolled last fall toward an undefeated season, Austin said if the Crimson Tide won the national championship, he would pay for a trip for Dareus anywhere, a source close to the Dareus family said.
The plane fare to Miami was paid for by Austin, but when Dareus arrived in Miami, he paid Austin for the ticket and received a receipt, the source said. Austin also arranged for a hotel room, but the source said Dareus did not use the room.
Last week, when reports surfaced about Austin's possible involvement with agents, Dareus was urged to call Alabama coach Nick Saban, a source close to the family said. The player and coach met late Sunday morning.
On Monday, Dareus met with Mike Ward, Alabama's associate athletic director in charge of NCAA compliance, the source said.
Dareus has told Alabama officials that he was the only Crimson Tide player who made the trip to Miami, the source said.
Sources close to the Dareus family paint a picture of the player as a young man who is a ferocious, competitive athlete on the field, but off the field his idea of kicking back often means watching cartoons. He is described as trusting, naive and gullible. As his mother's health declined in the spring following a lengthy illness, he was particularly vulnerable, a source said.
Saban addressed "this whole Marcell Dareus thing" on Wednesday at SEC Media Days even before he was questioned about the matter.
"We're not really going to make any comments, nor do we have any information that he did anything wrong or he didn't do anything wrong," Saban said. "But we're going to find out with the due diligence that we look for."
Saban stressed what Alabama does to educate its players: "We have an outstanding agent education program," he said. "Joe Mendes, who has been in the NFL for years, interviews our players, makes booklets, actually has home visits with their families to try to educate them on the things that they can and can't do relative to agents."
This is some slick coverup writing by a Bammerham columnist. Dying Mother, Has a receipt for plane, no hotel room, Left party when he new it was an agent, Boy is dumb and plays xbox alot. Please.

*Marvin Austin nor Saunders have been ruled ineligible yet*
Sounds to me like someone doesn't want the NCAA snooping around in their graveyard.
According to BOL, a UA official said Dareus has not been declared ineligible at this time. It will probably happen at some point, however, it hasn't yet. And how is declaring a player ineligible then applying for reinstatement an attempt to keep the NCAA from "snooping around"? If anything, that's inviting them to snoop. Afterall, I'm sure the NCAA would want to thoroughly investigate a claim before they give a green light for a player to play. As I said before, declaring him ineligible then applying for reinstatement is a "is this going to fuck us down the road" test. If the NCAA grants his reinstatement, then they aren't going to be able to come back on him for something tied to this down the road.

First... a few things...
1. It appears that UGA is the other school being visited by the NCAA over all this. Sorry, Birmingham, but your bitch ass is still not going to see the rugs lifted at AU.
Who said that the NCAA is requesting to be present on the UA campus? So far, UGA is the only school they have requested to visit. I'm guessing that is because AJ Green is denying he was there, and the NCAA might have information that he was. So far, it looks like everybody has been cooperating; except UGA. I would imagine that the NCAA has asked Austin for a list of people he invited, or saw there. And I'm sure they're asking everybody on that list the same thing.
2. I'm trying to find where, but it appears that Dareus is taking the always good approach of playing dumb. He's stating that he had no idea it was an agent's party. If it is true that Austin was the one doing the inviting and coordinating, I doubt he was broadcasting it to the entire world that this was a party put on by his agent. Maybe he was, who knows. I think AU fans are trying to blow this up without knowing all the facts, and Alabama fans are trying to make it into nothing without knowing the facts. I think it will wind up somewhere in the middle. Of course, AU fans won't be happy with that because it won't result in Alabama being handed the death penalty, but oh well.

Most of us know that will never happen. Hell, I don't even think they would hand out TV bans anymore, it is to much of a $$ business. The ONLY way the NCAA would do something that drastic was if they had the Head coach on video tape handing money to a player.
I really don't care if anything happens to y'all ...I just think it's funny!

You said:

So, who is the "other" school you are talking about? When somebody uses the term "other", especially in the phrase you used it in, that tends to mean we are talking about more than one thing. It wouldn't have made sense for you to say that unless you thought the NCAA was coming to UA as well. Otherwise, I'm waiting to hear what school "other" than UGA is being visited.
Do you feel the embarrasement already as you type this shit, or do you really believe in it?
Why should I? Like I said in another post, it could be something, it could be nothing. I tend to think it is somewhere in between. If what has been reported about the kid from UNC inviting players, etc, do you find it logical that he would be shouting from the rooftops that this party is being thrown by his agent? I doubt it. But hey, it might have happened.

Holy shit. You'll manipulate ANYTHING to argue about it. A true talent on your side for sure. There had been reports all day of the NCAA "possibly talking to another SEC School". All day. All afternoon. For you to sit here and try to pull this shit, is exactly the reason you're looked at as a douchebag more than half the time.

I think if ANYONE, or even let's say, the majority 97% of the country's population would ask, "Hey, what's the party for?", or how about, "Who's party is it?". We're talking about a possible top ten draft pick in the NFL, who will need an agent, getting a call from another player in North Carolina, asking him to attend a party over a thousand miles away. You don't think that common sense says that something was discussed? Do you really want to believe that Dareus made that trip with no questions at all? Really? Seriously?
Let me tell you something else that's stupid about that approach. If he takes that approach, and then the NCAA finds ANY FUCKING THING AT ALL that even suggests he knew? He's fucked. The university will catch all the flack in the world for not looking into it further, and it might get easier to suggest they knew more.
THAT is why your statement is stupid as fuck. ...and I hope you stick by it.

Don't get pissed off at me for something YOU misunderstood in some news story. You misunderstood something you read, came on here and offered what you thought it said as fact. Either that, or you were thinking one thing and typed something else. Either way, you said it. Then you said you never said it. A simple "Well, shit, that's not what I meant" would have sufficed. No shit the NCAA was talking to plenty of schools, and will talk to alot more as this thing progresses. But, at this point, they are only requesting to visit one school. I didn't manipulate anything you said. I copy and pasted exactly what you said. You were flat out implying that the NCAA was visiting UA, whether on purpose or not.
I think if ANYONE, or even let's say, the majority 97% of the country's population would ask, "Hey, what's the party for?", or how about, "Who's party is it?". What if that question was asked, and the kid said he was throwing it? You're saying how simple it would be to know if an agent was throwing it, when it could be just as simple that my scenario happened; Dareus asked and the kid said he was throwing it. I wouldn't expect a 20 year old football player from any school to interrogate his friend about it, beyond "There gonna be bitches there?"
Let me tell you something else that's stupid about that approach. If he takes that approach, and then the NCAA finds ANY FUCKING THING AT ALL that even suggests he knew? He's fucked. If the NCAA finds evidence that Dareus is lying about something, so be it. That's the price you pay when you lie about shit. And I think we all know that the NCAA does NOT like to be lied to. I would fully expect Dareus and/or the school to be assraped by the NCAA if something is covered up.

I'll just ask two questions.
1. When ESPN, The Mobile Press Register, whoever talks about the NCAA making contact with officials at a university, do they ALWAYS refer to them by their specific contact names? Is it usually more common to refer to contact with the school as, for example, "Today the NCAA contacted the University Alabama about this or that.", or "Alabama is currently investigating reports that Ingram (or whoever) was..."? See how stupid you are trying to make this stupid fucking argument you're making against how I phrased something?
2. If your buddy you knew real well, in Vance, AL called you up and asked you to attend a party at "his crib" in South Beach, wouldn't you in the least bit be curious? Wouldn't it take just a little more than being the average waterhead to start asking a question or two? Especially if you're a potential top 10 draft pick, and you've been counseled by staff at the university that are there for nothing more than compliance?

I listened to part of the roundtable on Jox this evening and they were slamming the writer of that article. They are waiting for the proof to debunk him, it was very entertaining.

Wait a second....Marcel Dareus' Mother passed away on the 18th of May. Marcel stated that he was in Miami when his Mother passed and had to leave after getting word that she'd passed....Memorial Day was on the 31st. Also, the Marvin Austin pictures have the party being on the 15th of May. So, where did Mr. Dareus stay for three days?
There are some holes in that story, the timeline just isn't matching up.

His story will change. Bank on it. It's all cool.

Sure, I believe the "said" agency or agent should be held accountable for their actions. But, these players involved, don't you think they knew what the hell was going on? Sure they did. They're not f'n kindergartens are they? They knew what the hell they were getting into. Prime example is Ingram. He knew to ask before doing but nobody else? Believe what you want to believe, but all these kids involved knew exactly what the hell they were getting into. They should be held accountable for their actions before anyone else unless ofcourse the University coached them along.
