The SEC's All-Star teams

As a kid, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the only all-star game worth watching.

It’s still that way, especially when you get to watch the Home Run Derby the night earlier with your boys and see their wide-eyed amazement at how far those guys can hit the ball.

So in keeping with the spirit of tonight’s Midsummer Classic between the American and National leagues, I’ve chosen my football all-star teams for the SEC’s Eastern and Western divisions heading into the 2010 season.

What criteria did I use in picking the teams?

In short, if a group of coaches, media members and fans were all in a room, what players would be selected at each of the positions if you were playing a game that weekend against the other division?

I’m sure there won’t be any disagreements with my picks.

Sorta detracts from the overall credibility of the list huh?  I think it also speaks to the probable lackluster QB play we are likely to see in the east in 2010.  The rest of the list is pretty solid IMO.

And I know it says Eastern and Western but who would the media side with if it came down to Brantley and Mallet? Sorry, but a guy who has started no games or played substantially in any SEC games has no business being on any ALL-(fill in the blanks) list. I'd put Garcia ahead of him just based on experience. Brantley hasn't earned shit. What I think he will do in the future is a separate conversation as I think he SHOULD be pretty decent.

Either way - Mallet is the best QB in the Conf - period.

Freekishly tall Mallet cat is #1.  Agree totally that Brantley will probably kick ass but you just can't put him ahead of anybody based on projections when he hasn't proven anything.  If that's the case, Newton would be ahead of Brantley based on being the boy dawg of JUCO.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

If Newton hadn't transferred, he'd be the #1 QB in the East, and the media would be all over his dick.

Now that he's with Auburn instead of Florida, he's unproven, while Brantley is the second coming of Tebo...
