2010 Alabama Elections Results

Notable races:

GOP Governor Nomination ==> Bentley/Byrne - Bentley wins by a pretty good margin. This is a win for the people of AL IMHO. Every other candidate in the race was part of the establishment. Tim James did provide one good thing in this race - many of his voters went to Bentley. Byrne's tactics of associating anyone he runs against with the AEA is a moot point to me. More to do with him than his opponents as he has been squabbling with the AEA for 2 decades. Good to see the outsider with far less money and media support win the race.

2nd Congressional District Seat (GOP) ==> Roby/Barber - Barber had the famous (or eh infamous) Gather Your Armies ad posted on this site. Too bad Montgomery has its legions of sheep and insiders as Barber fell hard to Roby. May not matter - the Demo nominee will probably win this one in November anyway as this area is a heavy Demo stronghold.

PSC (GOP) ==> "Twinkle"/Evans - Twinkle wins as expected. No big news here.

GOP Ag Commish Nomination ==> McMillan/Grace - Our friend Dale Peterson didn't make the runoff back in June but he made have had a say in this race after all. Many of his supporters went with McMillan because of a few of the good points he made in his infamous ad - the main one being: Grace is as crooked as they come. Peterson, as outlandish as he seemed, was right about that part. I think the state made the right choice here - McMillan wins more comfortable than expected.

I didn't purposely omit the DEM races in the state out of bias. Its just that all the intriguing races were on the GOP side this go round. Aside from the 2nd Congressional Race, if you are a Republican, you have to be happy with the selections lat night for the most part. To me, anything that is anti-establishment is usually good. Should be a good race between Bentley and Sparks in November.

If you think Bentley is an outsider, well be glad you are not a fish for you fell for that one hook line and sinker.....and, imho, you will be sorely disappointed in your "outsider" over the next four years if he wins in November.

What we have in November is a gubernatorial election between Paul Hubbard Boy #1 & Boy #2.....regardless of who wins in November, Hubbard will hold the power of the governorship for the next four years or until his retirement/death, which ever comes first.  Some may not find this a big deal, others are not real happy about that.
Once again Alabama will face the choice of the "lesser of two evils" for governor...not a "heavyweight" in the bunch.

As for Grace/McMillian...no  real dog in this fight......and thought either one would be an ok pic.  But my insight to Grace shows no corruption or crookedness on his part.  Would like to know what you heard about him.

Again, that's very disappointing about Barber but you may have a great candidate for Governor for the Fall elections.

We've got a real fight for the GOP gubernatorial candidacy here in Georgia.  Our Primary is next Tuesday.  I've decided to back the only woman in the race even though she is questionably liberal on some social issues.  At least she's not corrupt as the day is long, establishment, or an (alleged) child molester like the other GOP (and Dem, by the way) candidates.

We'll see how it goes.

I have changed my opinion on Bentley since the primary.  The more I got to know about him, the more I started to dislike him.  I can't prove it, but I get the feeling that him and Hubbert are closer than is known.  Something is fishy about this.  Maybe it's me not liking Paul Hubbert and him supporting him so much, but I am not near as high on him as I once was. http://www.factcheck.org/2010/07/mystery-drama-deception-in-alabama/

With Grace, it has a lot to do with lobbyists, campaign finance and double standards. You guys have the Gore Googlewebbs, so get to researching. I cant do it all for you  

Bentley is an outsider compared to Byrne. Like you said, he is the lesser of the two. Could it be you just don't like his UA background and residence?       BTW - Byrne and Riley both went to UA as well. Riley also endorsed Byrne which is enough to make me not vote for him. He was clearly the establishment candidate and is without a doubt a RHINO. He is also a former bleeding heart liberal who switched to the GOP for political leverage in 1997. His record on taxes is atrocious. Look it up...

I visit Ga pretty regular and do most of my work mainly on the state line near the Opelika/Valley,AL area and Columbus, GA/Phenix City, AL area so I get a lot of the spill over into AL from GA as far as news. I did see where Palin endorsed the lady you speak. Aside from the social issues (which I can get past, not that important), she sounds ok.  What part of Ga are you in?

I say Bentley is no outsider and is/will be beholden to Hubbert (thanks for the spell check) as a very large portion of Bentley's run-off money came from Hubbert and the man understands ROI very well.

Realistically looking at the election, it is obvious that the GOP candidate will be elected.  Out of the three that were running, I think Brantley was the best.  However, I still disagree with a lot of his stuff and would rather have a Independent candidate that would legalize gambling, bring Constitutional reform, along with many other things.  I feel I have high hopes though.  Maybe one day.

tarheel - thats actually common (maybe a little ill advised) nomenclature for Montgomery in "these herr parts". Its actually very common to call it that. Not saying its a good thing, but it is known by that name.

but I first heard it used by truckers over the CB..........."Got a wreck, 65 southbound, 2 miles north of Monkey Town, right lane closed".......

so, for me, it is CB slang for Montgomery.......what others choose to see or interpret is up to them.

for me it will always be Monkey Town or Goat Hill.
