I do think there are links to global events that are tied to the hand of God. I also know that there are some out there that stretch to make a connection between the natural and the spiritual. This particular event, I get the feeling that it is a stretch. I will say however, it is important for the US to stay buddies with Israel.

So we should stay buddies with Israel because we should be scared that hand of God will come down and kill us all? Or because it is the right thing to do and they have been our allies for generations?

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I think this is a stretch and a coincidence.  I've heard quite a few conspiracy theories on the Deepwater Horizon accident but I'm convinced it was an accident.  Just that.  Occam's Razor.

BP and FedGov were (and are) ill-prepared to manage it because of short-sighted procedures, planning, and policies by both admittedly for two different ends; that is, the drive for much-needed oil in uncharted areas and the desire to protect the environment by moving oil exploration farther and farther off-shore respectively.

Separately, our alliance with Israel is tantamount to a two-edged sword; they are an important ally and the only functioning democracy in the region but that very alliance is what alienates the Muslim world from us.  Without getting into a long-winded discussion on foreign policy this alliance is an example of what Thomas Jefferson recommended our nation avoid as this excerpt from one of his speeches illustrates: "Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations--entangling alliances with none, I deem [one of] the essential principles of our government, and consequently [one of] those which ought to shape its administration." --Thomas Jefferson: 1st Inaugural Address, 1801.

I think the thought that god rewards or punishes nations based on their decisions is ridiculous.

Do you think Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans because of all the sin in that city too? What about the earthquake in Chile? What did they do wrong? How about Haiti? Why hasn't a major natural disaster hit Iran or North Korea?

Shit happens. That's as far as it goes.

Jimmy Buffett Organizes Gulf Benefit, Blames Bush for Spill
July 6, 2010
Associated Press

Known for laid-back tunes like "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise," Buffett said it's perfectly normal for people to be mad when they see oil washing up on beaches and marshes.

Singer Jimmy Buffett is just another mad Gulf Coast native when it comes to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, but with an exception: He's got millions of fans and a way to help lift spirits over the seemingly endless crisis.
...
Buffett, a supporter of President Barack Obama, said the roots of the spill lie with the administration of former President George Bush

Just sayin, but not sayin it was b/c it was the wrath of God......

About 30K people have died from earthquakes in Iran over the last decade.  Remember the "Axis of Evil" speech and then one happened close to Terahn (I think) not long after it killing 27K or so and injuring over 30K more.  The Bush Admin offered assistance directly to Iran who turned it down at first but I think they eventually took it.   (Someone correct me if this is wrong info)

Quakes blamed on 'immodest women'
Published: 2010/04/20 11:06:14 GMT

Women who wear revealing clothing and behave promiscuously are to blame for earthquakes, an Iranian cleric says.

Hojjat ol-eslam Kazem Sediqi, the acting Friday prayer leader in Tehran, said women should stick to strict codes of modesty to protect themselves.

"Many women who do not dress modestly lead young men astray and spread adultery in society which increases earthquakes," he explained.
...
There is no other solution but to take refuge in religion and to adapt our lives to Islam's moral codes," he said.

...
"Now if a natural earthquake hits Tehran, no one will be able to confront such a calamity but God's power, only God's power. So lets not disappoint God."

More than 25,000 people died when a powerful earthquake hit the ancient city of Bam in 2003.

Seismologists have warned that the capital, Tehran, is situated on a large number of tectonic fault lines and could be hit by a devastating earthquake soon.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said many of Tehran's 12 million inhabitants should relocate.

There are plans to build a purpose built new capital near Qom.

You are correct. Hearing the Christian side of why apocalyptic things happen pales in comparison to the Muslim. And I am not just saying this because I am Christian. I am very free will and don't believe in most of that garbage either way - in fact Im often at odds with other Christians over the whole "it was meant to be" stuff, which I dont believe in. I'm just saying the extremists in the Muslim world put far more stock in why bad things happen to people they dont agree with than Christians. You just don't hear about them as much here in the US.
