HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Huntsville police will be looking for people driving under the influence throughout the Fourth of July weekend.Thanks to a grant from the Northeast Alabama Traffic Safety Office, police will set up several DUI checkpoints around Huntsville through Sunday, police said.Police released eight checkpoints this week, but said others will be set up during the weekend. Announced checkpoints are:Winchester Road at Moores Mill RoadDrake Avenue at Newsom RoadDrake Avenue at Chasewood DrivePulaski Pike at Sparkman DriveBob Wallace Avenue at Leeman Ferry RoadAndrew Jackson Way at Ward AvenueJordan Lane at Sparkman DriveOld Monrovia Road at Providence MainIn addition to checking for DUI offenses, police will also check for a valid driver's license, seat belts and proof of insurance.
Isn't the point of a DUI Checkpoint to catch drunk folks by surprise? Although I'm sure they will still bust quite a few folks this weekend.
