The man who discovered the rock band ‘Kiss’ passed away Monday at the age of 66.
Bill Aucion was often referred to as the fifth member of ‘Kiss’ died after complications from a battle with prostate cancer reported Carl Kaye a spokesperson for his family.
Aucion was working as a television cinematographer in New York City during 1973 when he discovered the group who wore makeup, spit blood and breathed fire. The initial Kiss tour was financed in part by Aucion who was rewarded for his efforts when the group became popular in 1975 and when on an explosive tour riding the popularity of the hit ‘Rock And Roll All Nite’.
Aucion also is given credit for seeing the merchandising potential of the group, which has earned them countless millions. The group has sold countless items with their likenesses on them, so much so that even band member Gene Simmons has joked about it on Saturday Night Live.
Kiss Drummer Peter Criss recently praised Aucion and stated that the group would have never reached the level of success they enjoyed without all the help and effort of Aucion.
In the early 1980s Aucion broke up with the group and went on to manage popular 1980s performers Billy Idol
and Billy Squier. Bill Aucion is survived by his two sisters and his partner Roman Fernandez.
