Watcha listening to?

You ought to try it.  When I am not in the shop I keep my zune at my desk and keep one ear bud in.  Helps me keep my mind focused on what I am doing instead of the village idiots I have.

I'd be lost at work without my iPod.  I'm not sure I could write a program is I didn't have something playing.

So yesterday started the Bob Seger kick.  Gonna be listening to the Nine Tonight Live album on the ride home.

I can't listen to music when I work because of what I do.  I can just see myself writing a contract while listening to the iPod...

Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I think the problem for me is that I generally am writing a complex, multi-part document, usually from scratch.  Even music in the background can seep into my stream of consciousness.  Carl can listen to music while he works on the computer, but I just can't.  I really have to focus on my document.  Maybe it's a guy thing.  You do have two brains, after all - maybe you listen to music with the other one...

Some music you listen to for the actual music and some for the lyrics.  Don Henley and Hal Ketchum are two others like Van Morrison and Bob Seger who record some incredible lyrics.  I love Henley.  Building the Perfect Beast was good, and End of the Innocence was AWESOME!!  For Ketchum, every song on the album Past The Point of Rescue is worth a listen.

Hal Ketchum
I know he is seen as country.  His songs are lonesome, plaintive and weary.  They don't really rock.  But they are not anything like contemporary country - no twang and no pop crossover.  You can't really two step to a Ketchum song, other than perhaps Past the Point of Rescue.

He reminds me of John Mellencamp.

I don't have it - I listened on line and like it.  Seger must hate the internet - you can't get a lot of his older music from iTunes or Amazon... Barnes & Noble has some of the CDs but not all.
