A 22-year-old University of Virginia student, a native of Cockeysville, was found dead Monday morning, the victim of an apparent homicide, according to a statement from the school in Charlottesville, Va.
Yeardley Love, a fourth-year student and a member of the university's women's lacrosse team, suffered "visible physical trauma," a statement from the university said. The cause of her death was undetermined pending an autopsy.
Love was a standout lacrosse player at Notre Dame Preparatory in Towson, and was named a second-team all-Baltimore County selection by The Baltimore Sun in 2005.
George Huguely, 22, a fellow senior with whom Love had been in a relationship, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death. Huguely, a Chevy Chase native and former high school All-American lacrosse player, is a player for the Virginia men's lacrosse team. He is listed in the school's sports media guide as 6-feet 2-inches tall, weighing 209 pounds. He was in custody at the Charlottesville/Albemarle jail.
