I do not care for Tim James but I see no reason why it should be in another language other than English.  The signs and laws they will have to adhere to will be in English so it seems like a pretty good standard to me.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Agree 100%.

I have decided to stop shopping at Lowes because the Spanish signs piss me off.

Watch out...  Those enlightened "liberal-terians" will stop by at any moment to call you a bunch of bigoted racists.  I wonder if we should also put the driver's exams on pink paper to appeal to the gay community.  I mean isn't white paper inherently racist?

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Are you guys serious?

This is just dumb... The commercial is dumb and Tim James is a simpleton.  As an Alabamian or prior Alabamian you should all be ashamed that this man is representing the state.  This is gives people ammunition to mock us.

The commercial is retarded.  Yes, genius, the problem to our budget issue is to reduce the languages on the DL test.  I thought this was America...rabble rabble...they took er jobs!

I love the American mentality portrayed by people on this board.  Jibba Jab! They should speak Anglish if they live here...Yet, if you travel to any other country you expect them to speak English there or it angers you...

If I go to another country that is not Ireland or Great Britain (non-English), I do NOT expect them to speak my language. Quit making blanket statement "assumptions".

I do NOT like Tim James btw. I didn't like Fob.

And yes - this is no more the solution to our budget problems than allowing gourmet breweries, DADT, gay marriage or Bingo in Shorter. It goes both ways. You are the one stereotyping - not others. If you would quit watching John Stewart and Colbert - who both make a satire out of any reasonable argument because frankly neither can hold their own in any real debate - you might see things more grounded.

Youre as ideological as anyone on here you've accused of being that way.

Actually, I'm not, but if you state that the commercial is right or that you agree with it...well...

That's just sad.

I form my opinion by looking at the facts of the matter and applying it to what is logical.  This commercial is absolutely retarded and makes our State look dumb.  He is harping on the emotions of immigration and the conservative stint.  Who gives a flying rat shit if they offer the DL in spanish?  Or any other fucking language for that matter?  If the person taking the test has a green card or is a citizen, and feels more comfortable doing it in Spanish rather than English, then what the fuck is the problem there?  Nothing...

And by the way, the comment towards other countries came from the awesome "I will not shop at Lowe's because of the spanish signs..."  It's fucking business, and if you refuse to support companies that cater towards hispanics good luck.  Let me know how that goes...

Bullshit.

I don't care what they speak in other countries.  When I went to Italy I tried to learn enough of their language to get by.  Same when I was in Germany, France, Australia (wait, what?).  I expect people who FUCKING LIVE HERE to learn ours.  Signs in Spanish?  Fuck that.  I don't care if they speak cockroach or baby whale at home.  But don't expect me to learn another language to get by in MY country.  Fuck that and fuck anybody who supports it until they're dead.

So you're saying that since the intrusion of Spanish into the culture and the gradual erosion of English as the country's official language is not the biggest problem the state faces we should just ignore it?  That's ignorant, my friend.

When Rudy G. took over as Mayor of New York the city was on the verge of collapse. It was teetering on the brink of insolvency.  Times Square was a teeming cesspool of porn and drugs. Corruption riddled the police force and the unions.  What did Rudy do?  Did he attack that?  Yeah he did.  But he also worked on the small things.  He resurrected NYC by insisting that people BE NICE.  He cracked down on the little things:  jaywalking, squeegee guys, graffiti etc.  His focus on fixing little things translated into broader improvements.  There were people -- just like you -- who said Rudy was a moron and didn't he realize that the city had bigger problems than people jumping turnstiles at the subway?  They were wrong.  Look at New York today.

If this was Tim's only position then sure, go ahead and make your comments.  But it's not.  It's one piece of his broader overall agenda.  I don't know enough yet to say whether I'll support him, but I do like this particular stance.  It's one I agree with 100000%.

You know what else?  FUCK anybody who "mocks" Alabama for being so backward that we don't think the US should become a spanish speaking country after 200+ years.  They can take their ass to Mexico or somewhere that spanish is the primary language and jibberjab all they want.

I dont have a problem with you personally AWK, but you and Vandy Vol consistently use the "I take the facts and apply the most logical judgement" line way too much. As if to make anyone who disagrees with your "opinion" as wrong because - well ,your opinion is the right one because its "the facts". Opinions are subjective. Just accept it as that. Youre not right. Kaos is not right so to speak. You guys just have a different way of looking at things. He is entitled to his opinion on this one without being considered "sad". Its not sad to him. Isnt tolerance what you liberals always preach that people should have? It seems youre not being very tolerant of the others' views in this thread - now are you?    :poke:

And you seriously should get enlightened by something other than Comedy Central.  Keyword here - "Comedy".

PS - I don't watch the Daily Show or Colbert Report.  And I sure as hell don't watch Fox News.

PPS - Stating that the commercial is stupid and makes Alabama look stupid is not an opinion, it is a fact.

PPPS:  Your silly SouthPark clip is typical of the left agenda.  It takes a valid argument and spins it into something else entirely. Rather than addressing the legitimate issues, it resorts to an attempt to make anyone who disagrees appear to be an uneducated loon.   Not once did I (or anyone else) mention the loss of jobs to hispanics.  That's not an issue for me at all.  If they are here legitimately and want to work, that's fine with me.  I hope that all men and women who desire to better their situation can find employment.

No, AWK, the argument is with the push to require that American goods and services -- particularly those provided by the government -- be delivered in Spanish.  Rather than requiring that American citizens learn the English language, our government bends over, spreads its asscheeks and shits out paperwork in a FOREIGN language.

Yes, i have a problem with this.  Road signs are written in English.  If you are going to pass the written portion of the driver's license exam you should be able to read and write at a functioning level in that language.

I vehemently disagree with the GED being provided in Spanish, French and Portuguese.  If you are going to have a high school credential from a US educational facility you should have enough English proficiency to pass the exam in ENGLISH.

While the manner in which Tim delivered his message leaves a little to be desired -- in his attempt to appear studious and thoughtful he instead looked robotic and perhaps mongoloid -- the message itself it 100000000000% correct.  The time to draw the line and insist that US citizens have at least a minimal functioning literacy in the English language has long passed.

I will be more inclined to support anyone who has the balls to step forward and promote this stance -- particularly knowing that people like you will be aghast and make disparaging remarks about their intelligence.

In this case -- and I don't often disagree with you -- you've checked your brain at the door.

2.  His stance is to get votes by pushing the immigration/spanish/conservative talking point.  Just like every political commercial you see in Alabama that consists of God/Family/Conservative etc... He looks like a moron and makes the state look even worse.

3.  My point was that it doesn't matter if they offer it in Spanish. Period.  Who fucking cares?  It effects no one negatively. At all.

PPS - Stating that the commercial is stupid and makes Alabama look stupid is not an opinion, it is a fact.

The point of the stereotyping comment was that you were afraid of it as a State, yet you were the only one doing it on this particular commercial. Kind of preemptive there wouldnt you say?

On your PPS line - you proved my whole point. An opinion = fact when you say so. I know you are smarter than that AWK. I could even have looked past it if you had said "well, thats the way I look at it and I disagree with you". No no - your opinion has to be a fact. Because its yours.

I find this hilarious because you employ this tactic on a daily basis.

No, I don't.  I make people look stupid by using logic and reason against them.  I don't take something that isn't related at all and try to pretend like it is.

There's also the fact that I'm right.  That plays into it.
