The NCAA has wrapped up the USC case... NOT SO FAST my friend

Birmingham

It appears the investigation is on going.  The good part about this, in my opinion, is this:  They've put this thing off for so long that the only thing left in this case is the really good stuff.  Should start getting really interesting really fast.

Quote
NCAA  investigators, indicating that their probe of USC remains ongoing, have asked attorneys for copies of sworn depositions from Heisman Trophy  winner Reggie Bush  and a San Diego sports marketing financier scheduled for next week.

NCAA officials as recently as last week requested that attorneys for San Diego sports marketer Lloyd Lake provide them with transcripts from Bush and Michael Michaels' depositions in Lake's civil lawsuit against Bush, said Brian Watkins, an attorney for Lake.

Although USC officials and coaches appeared before the NCAA infractions committee in February, the recent NCAA request is a clear sign that the organization is continuing to gather information in a more than three-year investigation that could result in the university forfeiting the Trojans' 2004 national championship, the 2005 season and Bush being stripped of his 2005 Heisman Trophy.

Lake and Michaels, co-founders of New Era Sports & Entertainment, allege that they provided Bush and his family hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and gifts in violation of NCAA rules during his USC career as part of a marketing agreement. Lake said he filed suit against Bush in San Diego Superior Court after Bush broke the marketing deal.

USC senior vice president for administration Todd R. Dickey said he had no comment on the Bush case. Messages requesting comment from the NCAA and Bush attorneys were not returned.

NCAA investigators are particularly interested in Michaels' deposition, Watkins said.

NCAA officials so far have been unable to interview Michaels because of a confidentiality agreement that was part of his out-of-court settlement with Bush. Michaels reportedly received between $200,000 and $300,000 in the settlement.

A ruling by San Diego Superior County Judge Steven R. Denton on Tuesday, however, cleared the way for Michaels to give a deposition in the Lake-Bush suit. Michaels will be deposed on Wednesday. Denton also ordered Bush to provide a deposition next Friday. The deposition will be the first time Bush has answered questions under oath about Lake and Michaels' allegations. Lake first met with NCAA investigators in November 2007. Bush, after declining NCAA interview requests for three years, met with NCAA officials in 2009.

We have to hear something from the initial investigation/sentencing within the next 2 weeks or so.  It'll be interesting to see, if they end up being granted copies of the depositions, what they'll do if what they're reading doesn't jive with what they decided as a punishment a couple months ago when they "wrapped up their investigation".

The part that is really stupid about all of this is that HC Carrol and Bush are no longer at USC and it will be USC that receives the punishment. Bush might have to payback the money to N.E. but is that really a big deal with the amount of money Bush gets from the Saints?

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Yeah, I know you're flaming and trollbaiting and whatnot, but I've about heard enough bammers talk about Cam Newton and the laptop thing like he committed grand larceny or something.

Fer Chrissakes he bought a hot laptop off of another kid. No boosters involved. It didn't happen at Auburn. Cam didn't steal the laptop himself. He owned up to it. Apologized.

To hear a bammer tell it, he knocked off a couple banks and shot three bank tellers in the head.

It's not like he...sold athletic scholarship textbooks to non-athletes, actually received a laptop from a booster, recieved a Dodge Charger from a booster, sold ecstasy and cocaine in the athletic department parking lot, assaulted a security guard with 11 other players on the team, was arrested for drunken disorderly conduct and provided false identification (Thomas Crown), and then headbutted his way out of the back of a cop car, choke-slammed his girlfriend in a parking lot and had the girl's dad say the bitch had it coming, robbed someone at pellet-gunpoint...am I leaving anything out from the Saban era that is far worse than buying a hot laptop off of someone else?

Perhaps you missed the very first phrase of my post.

Quote
Yeah, I know you're flaming and trollbaiting and whatnot,

I'm sadistic enough to listen to JOX callers, and read the comments section on AL.com. I've heard/read bammers pontificate from their highhorse about this Cam Newton thing, and after the billionth time you hear that shit you just have to go "Really? From you?"

Purchasing something that someone else stole is in the ballpark of jaywalking. The shit I mentioned in my post, is not.

And yes, it did happen. With the exception of the laptops and Chargers, there are police reports to prove everything else happened. There were so many incidents in Saban's first summer, I'm sure I left a couple out.
