Auburn Gymnastics, What's the Deal?

As a side note: By finishing ahead of Auburn, Alabama notched its 100th consecutive victory over its in-state rival.

I can honestly say I have never been to a Gymnastics event, and I may have seen them for about 10 minutes a couple  of times on CSS, but 100 losses in a row is pretty bad.  Anybody won't to shed any light on the subject.  I am aware of Alabama and Georgia being the top programs for quite a few years.

We've been to 7 consecutive NCAA Regionals and finished the season ranked 11th in the nation last year. We are currently ranked 15th in the nation. We also defeated UGA for the first time in a long time this year.

We were dead last in the SEC when Jeff Thompson took over in 2000. So I disagree that he needs to be fired.

The only current head coach at Auburn that I believe needs to be fired is Tina Deese.

I agree that the Softball team needs a new HC.  But, being ranked 15th in the Country against, about, 25 competetive College Gymnastic teams isn't that great....The University of Auburn is looking for Championship caliber teams and being beaten by SPuat 100 straight times is horrible.  I realize that SPuat's gymnastics teams are just about the cream of the crop, but of the last 100 times that SPuat and Auburn has competed, we should've atleast beat them once.

Collegiate gymnastics are like the WWE.

Yes, it takes amazing physical ability, but they know who's going to win before anyone sets foot on the mat.

Alabama's the "face", in pro wrestling terms, so unless they do something to fuck up monumentally, they're pretty much gonna win.

Are you going for your PhD in Dumbass?

The gymnastics coach is doing an excellent job in relation to where the program was.

I take it back. Please return to recycling Rivals and pretending like you have a cell phone that gets texts. Your original comments are pretty weak.

I imagine that a similar scenario plays itself out in swimming pools every year too, but with bammer as the bitch.  Which they are anyway, regardless of sport.

Apparently the team is a lot better than before Thompson got here, but I tend to agree with Prowler a bit on this one.

There are only 7 SEC programs, and Auburn is sixth among them, with only Kentucky ranked behind us at #20.

There are only 60-something teams (only 29 BCS conference programs), and half of them are schools like Cornell, Towson, Centenary, William & Mary, UC-Sacramento,  etc, so, like he said, being a top 20 teams is nice, but it isn't that big of a deal really.

That number 11 finish was on a 11-13 overall record and 3-3 in the SEC (with a 5th place SEC meet finish...out of 7 teams).  He's definitely the best coach we've had in gymnastics, and he has us competitive, but we do have to evaluate it it different than we're used to doing with football and basketball, where "top 15" means you're really good.  Top 15 in gymnastics can mean you finished the year with a losing head-to-head record and next to last in your conference.

Not saying he needs to be fired, he seems like he's a great salesman of Auburn and is well respected.  I'm just saying not to get too caught up in rankings that don't mean what they usually mean in other sports.
