For the Birmingham Parents, I need a pediatrician
« on: February 09, 2010, 03:55:47 PM »
Well it is getting into crunch time.  The little one is coming in about 7-8 weeks and it's time to find a pediatrician.  Any of you that live in B'Ham and have one you like I would appreciate the names.  Anyone else that has a an opinion on what to look for would also be appreciated.

Thanks dudes and dudettes

GET ONE IN A LARGE CLINIC TYPE PRACTICE.  Then even if yours is booked, you can get in to see SOMEONE for that random middle of the night ear infection or minor emergency.  We go to a pediatrician in a large group owned by Texas Children's Hospital.  If our doc is booked or on leave or whatever, we can get an appointment with any available doc at any office in the city if we need one.  That is INVALUABLE.

Also, find out which hospitals give that pediatrician admitting privileges and which ones accept their referrals.  For example, our docs have only one hospital up here that they use for admissions, and then of course Texas Children's will take their admissions and gets all their referrals (which is perfect since they are the best).  God forbid, if you need your child admitted into a hospital for any reason, you want one close to home and one that will allow your pediatrician to direct their care.

Just my two cents.

My girlfriend is a nurse down at Alabama Pediatrics.... I'll call her to get her feel.  Her Dr.'s (if I remember right), are Dr. Levin, and Dr. Stansell.

I'll let you know after I talk with her.

Smart move - a pediatric nurse will think you're really hung, compared to those 8 year olds at work

Also, maybe he could ask Saniflush - his girlfriend doesn't work for a pediatrician, she still goes to a pediatrician

That's a big word for an eight year old.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

We use Dr. Steven Blair at Redmont Pediatriacs (located at St. Vincents).  He's awesome.

They may be too far from you, but we take little man to Pediatrics East.  Dr. Lytle is his doctor, and he is great.  There are several doctors in this group also, and I haven't met one that I didn't like yet.
