By the way, that sigh of relief you hear from the south is coming from Steve Spurrier now that he finally secured the signature of Marcus Lattimore, one of the nation’s top running backs. When was the last time South Carolina landed the state’s premier prospect? It’s been a while, which is why the coach absolutely had to win this battle after fending off the likes of Oregon, Penn State, Georgia, and most seriously, Auburn. With the bloom beginning to fade on Spurrier, he desperately needed something to get the folks around the campus excited again. Lattimore has the potential to be that type of Gamecock, and the kind of playmaker who pushes Kenny Miles right away for playing time and makes Stephen Garcia’s life a little easier. Spurrier positively had to have Lattimore for reasons that extend well beyond just the 2010 depth chart.

Bad move for Latt. I kind of feel sorry for the 18 yr old kid. He has been played. Stats show Spurrier is nowhere even near committed to the run.

South Carolina fans genuinely believe that they've been a few great players away from competing for the SEC championship.  They think they have the tools to be a Georgia or Auburn, but they don't.

The problem for us was that Spurrier and the Gamecock population convinced Lattimore he was that great player.  He could push South Carolina over the top.

He's going to be really disappointed in a few years.

Kenny Irons should have been the one handing him the Auburn hat instead of Stephen Davis.  (Maybe Irons could have brought out his midget-in-a-suitcase, too?)

I'm looking at Lattimore at SC, as Spiller at Clemson 2.0..

We've already seen this movie.  It's a poorly written sequel.  Extreme talent, without the support necessary to do better things as a team.  SC will be better because of his talent, but they won't replace Georgia, Florida, or even Tennessee for that matter in the East.  He'll get them to bowls, but not to championships in my opinion.
