Yeah, he's just saying what's already been said here with references to Florida State's regularly ranked classes, but the timing and tone is specifically designed to make sure Auburn fans understand that they have nothing to be happy about should recruiting close well.

Hm, sounds kind of like what AU fans were saying the past few years.

It's mainly because the media members are not Auburn fans.

This is just one of those "cushion the blow" posts to a mass of fans that do not and will not know how to handle it.

Also, RWS, it's not like Auburn was nipping at your heels the last few years.  This is a little different.  You guys were out there in the stratosphere and had a coach that had shut the cellar doors on Auburn for good...or so you thought.  Most fans (not the minimal amount of rational bammers) can not, and do not (again) compute, understand or fathom Auburn not sucking major dick while Alabama is still good.  To brag about Alabama football, it takes a certain percentage of Auburn bashing as an ingredient.  If you take that ingredient out, your shit biscuits are going to come out flat and nobody is going to eat them.

It's simply amazing the way these bammers are trying to frame it.

I've heard numerous times things like "It doesn't matter, you'll always still be Auburn, we'll always still be Bama."

Thank God.

To hear them tell it, Auburn and Troy are more appropriate Sunbelt rivals who both look up to Our big SEC brother.

Talk about new money. Back in the real world, we have been the better team for the majority of my life. More wins overall and against you.

Their lie is repeated so frequently, and by members of what should be considered legitimate media, that sometimes  I am almost to the point of buying in and questioning my own perception of reality.

Thank God we'll always be Auburn and you'll always be Alabama. The pendulum peaked and is on its way back.

An 8-5 season, second loss in a row to Alabama, and a recruiting class that hasn't even signed their LOIs yet...and the pendulum is on its way back to AU? Thats interesting. I guess Shula really did have Alabama headed in the right direction all those years. I have no problem saying AU is bringing a good class this year. But don't you think saying that Alabama is on the downswing and the momentum is back to AU is a bit premature?

Perhaps you don't know the definition of "peaked". Nothing you just described happened post peak.

I would definitely not say that the pendulum has changed directions, but, even with a Bama NC, Auburn has slowed down the momentum with this recruiting class. I think the pendulum is still probably peaked, at the worst for Alabama, but we will have to see how next year goes. If Alabama doesn't make it to the SEC championship and a BCS game, then yes, you have to say the program has "peaked" for now. You guys are on top right now. You have had 2 #1 classes and a NC. Anything less than that is going the other direction...

I can agree with most of this. If you want to say Alabama has peaked because of winning a NC, thats fine as well. I mean, you can't get any higher than that. But to just automatically say we're on the downswing wouldn't be accurate either. For the most part, Alabama is maintaining. Bringing in back-to-back #1 classes, then a top 5 class is putting ALOT of talent into a program in a short amount of time. So I would agree with you that the pendulum would still be peaked.

There is reason for AU fans to be excited with the class they are bringing in. I'm not saying they shouldn't be. I'm simply saying that AU still needs to prove itself on the field with these guys.

Not that this is how it was meant in the original post, but I think the imagery of the pendulum is a misconception.  The problem with it, as RWS' initial interpretation shows, is the idea that positive momentum for one program automatically means negative momentum for the other.  To say Auburn is on the rise, Alabama fans feel attacked and insulted, as if that same sentence translates into "Alabama is slipping".

The lie comes from the idea Alabama fans have always had to live by in order to keep the universe in proper order in their minds.  If Auburn is good....it can only be because Alabama is temporarily (by some anomaly) in a down cycle.  It's the argument we've heard about 16 times in the last 28 years...."you only won because we sucked this year".  Yeah, Auburn is 16-12 verses Alabama in the last 28 years...because of those "temporary" down cycles.

In the typical Bama fan's mind, Auburn can't create momentum of their own accord and effort, oh no, it is only possible to gain traction when Alabama happens to be stumbling.  We are the mutt roaming around under the table waiting to get the crumbs that the master accidentally dropped.

This idea has been perpetuated by the media over the years as well.  Most of the time you see Tuberville's streak mentioned, you soon read something like "...against an Alabama program in it's darkest times...".  Just turn a blind eye to the 2002 and 2005 Alabama teams that finished ranked #11 and #8....Tuberville must have just gotten a few lucky calls in those games, or maybe the latest "scourge of all humanity" coach on the opposite sideline blew it for the superior program.

In the last 30 years, Alabama has appeared in the AP poll (for at least one week) in 28 of those seasons.  Auburn has appeared in 27 of those seasons.  In that same time, Alabama has spent 167 weeks in the Top 10 (30 of which were in the last two seasons).  Auburn has spent 153 weeks in the Top 10.  A quick study will show that many of these "ranked" weeks overlap.  It's more than possible that both teams can be at the top of college football, history has shown it to happen over the years.

So as Auburn has the look of a team "on the rise" or appears to be building some momentum from the low of a 5-7 2008, it is happening independent of any rise or dip in momentum that may or may not be happening in Tuscaloosa.  Media and fans may be joining the two scenarios, but reality shows that they are independent, capable of changing direction with no input from the opposition, good or bad.

The pendulum has begun it's movement back.  There is no where else for turdnation to go.  The apex is the here and now.

The here and now may last longer than a year but it is downhill from here.  There is no way to stay in the same place your are in.  There is constant motion in one direction or the other.

It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."
