Senior Bowl

Senior Bowl
« on: January 30, 2010, 07:26:11 PM »
Anyone watch?

I caught bits and pieces.  Antonio Coleman looked like a midget against those linemen.  He got manhandled pretty regularly.

Ben Tate looked good.  Ran routes out of the backfield effectively, and he had a few nice runs that showcased his strength.

Tebow?  Good luck as a tight end.

The other QBs?  Good luck as insurance salesmen.  Pike understood how to play quarterback, but I think his arm will be a weak point.

Collin Peak (bammer turd) improved his stock drastically.  He was consistently open and made some nice grabs.

Brandon Graham (Michigan DE...not sure on the name) looked like a future Dwight Freeney.  A bit undersized, but he was unblockable.

Cody was a fat piece of shit.  They should have gotten him a longer jersey so his flabby jelly-belly wasn't flopping around so much.  I'm sure there will be a future gif that will cause much laughter.

Stafon Johnson has a good story, and he had great vision.  However, his athleticism has diminished.  I doubt any teams take a chance on him.  He'll probably go 3rd or 4th round based on potential.  I'd say that's pretty good after having your throat crushed by a weight bar.

LaGarrett Blount looked amazing.  240 pounds was way too much for just about everybody out there.  I have a feeling we'll hear his name called a lot earlier than expected on draft day.

Dismal game, dismal performances for the most part.

Tebow -- who looked so invincible until midway through this season -- looked like he'd never seen a football before.  I'm trying now to figure out what the hype on this kid really was.  Was he ever any good?  I can barely remember a time that he was.

Ben Tate had a few good runs in what I saw, but was really underused.  Dexter McFuckster won't make it in the NFL.

Too much now that game is becoming a "hope we somehow, maybe, prayerfully make an NFL roster" game.

I wish they'd brought that kid in from Southern Miss -- Fletcher -- instead of McFuckster.

Could not disagree more.

Ever hear of Chris Johnson with the Titans (formerly of East Carolina)?

I just don't like him.

That can be fixed with proper coaching.

Yet another gem by Kaos.  Using the name "fumble machine" to refer to a running back that never fumbled the ball his entire collegiate career.  What a dolt.

Speaking of fumblitis I read Sir Tebow had some problems holding on to the pigskin today.

I agree with the "good luck as a tight end" and would add fullback in there as well.

Tom Landry couldn't coach the quote function to a winning season.  Bob Knight couldn't choke the quote function to a winning season.

So how much longer does the Senior Bowl want to stay in Mobile?  Ladd Stadium is a big of a dump as Legion Field.  They don't even have a jumbo tron, every year for the Gmac bowl they have to rent one.

There was a whole big freak out about it down here this year.  Apparently Tampa made a significant play, but it stuck for this year and two more in Mobile with some continued negotiation for the long term.

http://blog.al.com/live/2009/10/contract_to_keep_senior_bowl_i.html

LPS is a bad place to play.  It's hardly an NFL-quality venue.

I don't really see the major benefit in keeping it.  Did you see the stands in the fourth quarter?  There were eight people there.  Maybe.  It looked like a mid-week Auburn basketball game or worse.

They claim it brings in money, but does it really?  People are usually already in Mobile for Mardi Gras anyway.  Would be with or without that game.  Yeah, I know, it's been here forever.  That's the only allure/motivation.

Maybe when Larry's Dome gets built up Birmingham way they can move it there.

I've lived in Midtown for 8 years and been 1 time.  I can walk to the stadium in 15 minutes, but like Legion Field if you try and park close to the stadium you better be packin.  I give it a few more years, but their only saving grace is that South might want better facilities and that would at least be a better place to play.

Not defending the Mighty Tebowski, but to be fair, he has strep throat and has been in the hospital most of the week.

Would probably be pissed that he was out there playing if my kid is on his team.  Cooties, man!

Not too bad in the Sugar Bowl...31/35 - 482 yards passing - 51 yards rushing - 4 TDs (3 passing, 1 rushing) - BCS Bowl Record 533 total yards.

But you're right, before that game, he had kind of faded.  Really, he's been fading since 2007.

I don't know that scouts put too much into the game itself.  There are just so few touches for everyone.  Tate had 3 carries.  I think the scouts learn a whole lot more observing during the week of practice leading up to the game.  They can watch lots of one on one battles between top lineman, corners and receivers, etc.

I'm sure scouts will watch the Sugar Bowl film as much or more than Tebow's 11 passes in the Senior Bowl.  Not that it matters, I don't see anyone taking him in the first 3 rounds no matter what film they watch.

Some think Tebow will coach but why wouldn't ESPN try to give him some television spots just to see what he could do? If things didn't work well he could always tote a clipboard and hold xp's for ten + seasons.

I'll renege on the McFuckster comments.  I just sort of hate Ole Miss, he looked very small and fragile compared to some of the others on the field, but he'll be on an NFL roster somewhere.

Houston Nutt (and Orgeron before him) really failed that kid.
