This would be nice if it were true. It looked as if for a while James Stone was UA bound, but kudos to UT's new coach for making a renewed push for him. Looks like it worked. Even if we miss on Stone and Coleman, we're more than likely going to get Arie Kouandjio, who I'm very excited about.

It's hard for me to believe that everyone knows about this in Tuscaloosa but our coaches and the "inside" Rivals guys don't. I have seen no updates and I don't believe the coaches would let Coleman go without a big time fight.

Also, if you start seeing some other OL on campus this weekend with reports of new offers...then believe it about Coleman...

Or, the Auburn coaches put up a fight, lost, and the Rivals guys on Auburn's side didn't want to put that all out there. Who knows?

Here is how Shane Youngblood of BOL put it:

Quote
Just a qualifier for you guys: Things could change minute by minute from here on out. Anyone that says that have a real firm idea of who Alabama will close with is probably guessing. It is just impossible to know the numbers situation, and on top of that, most of the remaining targets aren't doing a lot of talking.

That quote was in reference to about 10 or so different recruits they were giving updates on, not just Coleman.

You look at this as some vast conspiracy.

I look at this as no one knowing what the fuck they are talking about and no one knows who will sign with anyone till there name is on the dotted line.

Conspiracy? Hardly. More like a business trying to keep the wheels turning. I get it. However, there is some precedent for Rivals recruiting rankings being a bit on the subjective side when it comes to Auburn and Alabama. However, since "winning" a NASHENAL CHAMPEEENSHIPPPPPPP the Bammers at Rivals seem to not worry with that as much.

Exactly. Nobody knows dick. Hell, just months ago, anyday Seastrunk was going to commit to AU. He couldn't tell enough outlets how much he liked AU and how they were #1 for him. Now he's an Oregon commit. Shit changes, and we're talking about a bunch of 17-18 year old kids. Anything at this point is an educated guess. At this point, the BOL mods simply say Coleman is interested in Alabama and that Alabama might have a good shot at him. I think we all could surmise that anyways.

It is an interesting proposal for him. At Auburn, he could possible start in a year (if he's as good as advertised). At Alabama, he's got to get in line behind some serious talent. I suppose we should also consider school in this as well. Nothing against Alabama - fine institution - but Auburn is fucking hard, man. Even for athletes. Women - well, I'd give Auburn the edge, but I'm sure I'm just biased. Nightlife goes to Tuscaloosa. So many factors...

What's interesting about Goodbread's theory is that it's a "numbers" game to try to fit him in...then how did the 3-star kid from Memphis just happen to fit into the numbers suddenly?

Surely a kid from Memphis that Alabama could have stolen at any time isn't higher on the board than Coleman.  So if they had room for the Ivory, wouldn't that spot have gone to Coleman if Coleman was "sold" and just "hoping" he had a spot?  As of now Alabama only has two OL commits, and neither are highly recruited.  Arie Kouandjio is expected to join, but either way, this isn't a loaded OL class without Stone.

This isn't to say Coleman isn't going to end up at Alabama, but to say it's a "done deal" and they are just hoping the numbers work out sounds like a load to me.  The addition of Ivory today kind of blows that up.

Ivory and Coleman are two different positions.  A NG may be a more important need at this point than Coleman.  Bama has signed 10 offensive line prospects in the last 2 classes.  OL isn't a top priority this year so Coleman may just be the next highest player on the board IF a spot becomes available.

If a spot opens up for Coleman and he leaves, it's a big blow to Auburn's recruiting despite what any sunshine pumper will tell you.

This guy is a five star super hyped recruit.  He's a big story since he worked his way up from a lowly 3 star to one of the top 25 prospects in the country.

While he's not a lock to be a superstar, it will be perceived as Nick Saban still having Auburn by the balls if he can pull away a top prospect from Auburn simply because he had an open spot.  That's Bear Bryant style, and as much as it frustrates me, it's pretty damn impressive.

What's worse is that if Coleman switches, he'll probably be the center of baseless rumors claiming he was bought.

I hate this time of the year.

Don't think Bama would have used the media to make the big "Coleman may be switching" rumors so public if this wasn't going to happen.  Saban's all Andre Aggasi about image and I just don't think he would want to take the PR hit if his "best effort" wasn't able to snatch anybody he wanted from the Auburn commit list, particularly from a guy he and his fanbase have no respect for -- Geno Chizik.

Would surprise me now if he stuck with his Auburn commitment.

I don't buy the "Saban orchestrated this months ago" nonsense, but I do accept the theory that the only reason this blew up in a public way is because they had back channel communications recently and were told that he would change if given the chance.  Then they allowed it to become a story.  Otherwise we never hear about it.
