What if we just quit it?
« on: January 22, 2010, 10:56:30 AM »
If we're just going to have a shit basketball program and nothing is going to be done, what if we just shut it down completely and used that money for football and baseball?

It's pretty obvious that nobody gives a shit about Auburn basketball unless it's winning and it's not going to win given the current administration's bumfuckery.  So why even have the program at all?

That new gym would make one hell of a recreational facility.

I was mostly kidding.

But it did get me thinking.  If Auburn didn't have a basketball program how much would I miss it.  Because it's a three or four hour drive, I -- like most -- don't go to many games.  Haven't been in a couple of years actually.

If we just didn't play the game I don't think I'd really notice all that much.

But if we're going to, I want to do it well.  I don't like sucking.  And we suck.

Lebo has got to go.  He should have went last year, but that is water under the bridge.  IMO, we have got to make a splash hire this go around, especially with the new arena.  Someone who is well known, that has the energy to promote the program and get people excited.  The question is who.....who can you hire?  Personally I like Brad Stevens (Butler University), but I don't know if that would be the type of splash hire you are looking for.

Charles Barkley.

But for real, we need to at least let him pick a guy. They asked his opinion last time and completely didn't acknowledge them at all, which led to this whole thing with him being pissy about us not hiring Turner Gill.

Twice that we agree in as many weeks.

Charles Barkley.

I don't know the ins and outs of Auburn Sports politics but I think that Barkley would be a tremendous hire as head coach for real in my opinion.  I wouldn't know if he'd do it but it'd be a helluva way to energize the program.  And what better way to start a new year in a new arena.

Hiring Charles would be good for about one week which is how long the publicity would last.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."
