Ok, just got finished watching this, no thanks to the guy in the office next to me. He insisted on IM'ing me it seemed like every 5 seconds until I didn't respond and I think he took the hint. Now on to some thoughts.............
Good movie. I really can't compare it to the first one. I liked them both. In the earlier ones, Carpenters Michael Meyers was supposed to be one scary mutha fucker and he was. (just as the review said) I can remember watching it when I was younger and being scared shitless. To me the first one wasn't human, he was just some scary "boogey man/monster".
The Meyers that Zombie portrayed was a scary dude, don't get me wrong, but he was scary as in "that guy is fucked up". (shock value) The young Meyers was actually more "scary/fucked up" than the older one. You walked away thinking that little kid is nuts. You got to see how he could be shaped into what he became. You got a glimpse of what kind of environment that he was brought up in and we get the story behind the mask and how it became. The older did a good acting job though. His movements were great. He looked to be slow and plodding, could have done without the grunting, but then again it kinda makes him human, unlike my thoughts about the earlier movies.
I was about to rant on his "superman" like strength and then I thought about it for a second. When one is running on pure adrenaline, rage and anger, once can do some amazing things. I do tend to think that Hollywood does go overboard sometimes with it. He took 3 shots to the back with a 357 and stabbed in the shoulder and he still keeps coming? Then again, it is for entertainment purposes so I can overlook that.
In the end, Zombie did what he was supposed to do. He left you wanting more and asking questions, which left him room to make a sequel. Overall, a damn good movie IMO. Zombie did a good job. The review you wrote, well, I couldn't agree more. It is spot on.
