Clemson beats North Carolina this week....and why it pisses me off.

Clemson beat North Carolina at home this week before a sold out ruckus crowd.

It's annoying because Clemson is Auburn in basketball...until they hired Oliver Purnell.  They decided that mediocre wasn't okay and secured a quality coach.

Before Purnell, Clemson had been to the NCAA tournament 7 times.  Auburn has been 8 times.  Before Purnell, Clemson had spent 92 weeks in the AP poll.  Auburn has spent 90 weeks in the AP poll.

But since bringing in Purnell three years ago, Clemson has been to two more NCAA tournaments and has spent an additional 32 weeks in the polls.

This doesn't include this years squad that is 13-3 and just entered the polls again.  They are also likely headed to the tournament, although there is a lot of ball to be played.

But damn, we are no different.  Clemson has no more of a history.  No more of a basketball name.  They also are considered to be a "football" school, just like us. (whatever the hell that has to do with anything...see Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State, etc).

The whole difference is that they stepped up and got a coach.  That's all it takes in basketball.  Get yourself a freaking coach that can coach and recruit, and presto....you can win.  You can win with 2 quality players and 5-7 adequate players.  It's not like building a football program.

Purnell proves it....in the historically unrivaled competition that is the ACC, Clemson has the third highest number of wins in the ACC over the last three years.  Clemson!  Given the state of the SEC, if Clemson was in the SEC, Purnell would likely have 2 SEC titles in the last three years.  Damn it, would someone please decide to give a poop about our pitiful basketball program.

That which will be done eventually must be done immediately.  Fire Lebo tomorrow.

No, no, no...  it takes five years to rebuild a basketball program.  And we have an old facility.   :taunt:

Get on board the excuse train, dude!  Ride it along with the rest of the chumps who've been trying to explain why I was wrong for years.  For four years.

I've been saying this for four years one. Four long years.  A basketball program can resurrect in two seasons.  If it doesn't you have the wrong guy.  We have the wrong guy.  Period.  Forget football (which he's also screwed up as you will see over the next few seasons and will realize too late that Kaos was right all along) the raping of the baseball and basketball programs is enough reason to throw Jay Jacobs under the bus.  Literally.

I'd say that you have a case for a good argument here except for the fact that the Tarheels just aren't that great this year which, perhaps, gives you a false premise.

They are still good though, just not necessarily Top 10 good, and that's only because of youth.  Either way, they lost by 20 at Clemson, and would in all likely-hood not suffer the same fate against Auburn.  And remember, three of the UNC six losses are to Kentucky, Texas, and Syracuse...three of the top 5 teams in the country.  They do have wins over Ohio State and Michigan State.

Besides, that UNC game just got me thinking of the comparison to Clemson.  The premise for the argument is the history of Clemson and Auburn basketball and how it is so similar....until Oliver Purnell came in three years ago.  Anyone can beat anyone on one night...especially in basketball.  But my post wasn't about one game.  It was about the last three years and how two eerily similar programs have gone in opposite directions.

Heck, maybe if we had fired Lebow after three worthless seasons, we could have been in the running for Purnell.  That one game only made me think of the bigger picture.

And yet we got beat by College of Charleston...College of Charleston.  Are you fucking kidding me?!  (That one still grinds my gears...and, yes, I know they are coached by Cremins.)  Anyway, I understand what you're saying I'm just blowing off steam from an awful season so far.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."
