Sarah Palin on Fox
« on: January 14, 2010, 07:59:28 AM »
I read Sarah's book.  Not nearly enough pictures, but I read it anyway.

I tend to agree with her basic stance on the political arena.  Less government is better government. If you want to free up the economy, put money back in the hands of people who will spend it to expand the economy -- business owners.  You're never going to achieve growth by taking from some and giving to others, it just won't work. Government should work for the people not the other way around.

I could vote for somebody who has those core beliefs.  But...

After reading her book I couldn't vote for her.

Here, in a nutshell, is why. Everything she says is reduced to some myopic experience from her past.

What would you do about climate change, Sarah?

"Well, Granny Wispers used to knit afghans to keep us warm when it was 20 below in Alaska. She's still knitting, so I just think climate change is a bunch of hooey!"

She's right. Climate change is hooey. But the Granny Wispers story kills it.

Here are her comments as a Fox News reporter on Harry Reid's negro problem:

I come from a very diverse state. My family is diverse. I'm married to an Alaska native. A lot of us don't think along those lines that somebody's skin tone would be criteria for a qualification for the presidency. So his -- his thinking and his articulating of that -- that thought was -- is quite perplexing. It's quite unfortunate. And I think it's unacceptable.

Fuck the Alaska bit, Sarah.  I know you love Alaska and think it's spiffy.  I know you think your Eskimo hubby is the tits.  I know half your family are sled dogs.  But shut the fuck up about it.  To most people Alaska is a big blob that sits off to the left of the country in its own separate box.  Either that or it is connected to Hawaii.

She's rendering herself irrelevant.

I blame John McCain.  I don't think she was ready for the spotlight, but he picked her anyways and it has ruined her chances.  She needed some more seasoning as Gov of Alaska before making her Prime Time debut.   Same could be said for Bobby Jindhal.  I fear they might do this to him as well.  Palin's core beliefs are solid and I too could vote for someone with her core beliefs.  Just not her.  She is damaged goods now and I don't believe it is her fault.  Blame John McCain, the MSM, the fringe left and the Washington elite.

I will be watching her on Fox News though......just another hot anchor/talking head that they add to the lineup.

I too have grown to find her overwhelmingly annoying, but her core beliefs are right on target.

Back to what Kaos was saying...  Do you really think that it's necessary for everyone to circle the globe to confirm and believe that the earth is round?  I agree that her "life experiences" may be lacking, but a point of observation here...  You don't need to have the most worldly experience to confirm what is right.  Sometimes, it's blatantly obvious.  As you said in another thread...  common sense.

The fact that granny is "knitting another afghan" isn't necessarily silly.  It may be shallow to you, but there is something to it.  It may not have 1000s of scientists with that global "concensus"  :taunt: behind it, but even the shallow Alaska-based "simpleton" knows that it's going to be cold this year.  Again...  common sense.

Unfortunately it makes it difficult to take her seriously.

I think that given enough rein, she would do an outstanding job in an executive position.  But her by golly by gosh homespunisms and constant references to her own family likely kill her as a serious candidate.  Sad, because what we really need is somebody who holds her core beliefs and still has a chance in hell of being elected.

If you read her book, she makes no bones about the fact that McCain gutted her and left her twisting in the wind.

One very astute observation she made is on how the left kills legitimate opposition.  They bury them in frivolous paperwork.  The wave of ethics charges against Newt serve as the template.  They rendered his ability to effectively govern and/or lead moot because he was forced to spend all his time and energy defending himself and his family against scurrilous attacks.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Fascinating to see you change a stance on anything, Kevin.

I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that I've been of that mindset since about halfway through the 2008 campaign.

Don't get me wrong, I was on board too. Until she talked a lot.

I still want to eat her like a moon pie and ride her like a parade float.

My opinion changes when additional credible evidence contradicts it.

McCain's staff did the same thing to her as they did to McCain - hogtied her, tried to control her - like you said. His brother even came out about 2-3 weeks before the election and blamed him lagging in the polls on his staff. And he was right. At that point, I think, with nothing to lose they turned them both loose and damn near made the election close.

Here was the article where Joe McCain criticized McCain's staff...
