How long before somebody says "nick saban"?

How long before somebody says "bobby petrino"

I will say this on record.  If they end up with Patterson from TCU?  I'm going to punch Jay Jacobs in the face.

That would be a huge hire for the Vols no doubt. I hope they do hire him just so I can pics of you keeping you word.

Don't disagree that he could work out okay.  He did a good job at Ole Miss, too.

But in perception terms?

They hired boy wonder and put him on a pedestal. Gave him a cape and a mask. They stood solidly behind him when he made mistakes and justified his every gaffe. Well he took his super suit and left their little city.

If Kiffin is Aquaman or Green Arrow or Nightwing or one of the minor super heroes, Cutcliffe is droopy schloopy Underdog.  He's Perry the platypus.

Would it be a good move?  Probably.  Peyton would likely endorse it.  But I just wonder if they'd be willing to take the short-term PR hit that hiring a pedestrian guy like Cutcliffe instead of a flashy splash (which might not work out nearly as well) like Gruden or Muschamp would inevitably bring.

** He was also fired at Ole Miss and replaced by Orgeron who just told Tennessee to phuk off and tried to steal their recruits.  So there's that history, too.

It's a fail from a perception standpoint.

I agree. And I would also like to go out on a limb and say that I think Cutcliffe would win more games at UT than Muschamp and Gruden would. I think Gruden is an excellent NFL Coach and CWM an excellent DC, but mainly I just think those 2 are a lot of hype from a College FB HC point of view. But you're right. Perception is everything.

Hmmmm it seems that fattimus Phillipot has been contacted and the title of AD was what was actually mentioned to him.  If they hired David C as coach and then Fat Albert as AD there would a big ole orange inbred orgy in knoxville.

I would ask that you wait at least one season to see how things go.  If he goes 10-2 or better, then punch Jacobs in the face....repeatedly.

Of course, if we also go 10-2, then Prowler gets to punch you in the face repeatedly once.

That'd be it.

If Cutcliffe (Alabama grad and both Manning mentors) takes the Head Coaching job things might fall into place. Hamilton will have to leave for Fulmer to become AD. I'm not too sure Cutcliffe is up to it although I hope he gets the chance.
Gruden has refused. He is a former asst. at UT He also refused when Fulmer was released.
S. Holtz was thrown in for good measure in a SN article by a not so well known writer.
There really are no new names in the wee hours of the 14th.

I'm looking at the coaching hot board on the UT Rivals site, and they are fucking crazy. Bob Stoops, Kyle Whittingham, Gary Patterson as targets? There is no telling what kind of NCAA issues are coming down the pipe for UT, and I can only imagine the bodies buried out back.

Who besides Saban knows where the bodies are buried around Northport?

There isn't even anything going on that would suggest something is coming down the pipe for Alabama right now. And we're not trying to hire a coach right now. So, whats your point?

Fulmer says he is not interested in the job, but hopes UT finds a good coach.
http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2010/jan/14/tennessee-phillip-fulmer-releases-statement/

I don't think the name had been floated much, but Skip Holtz has accepted the USF job. So, there is another option gone. Its looking more and more like it will be Cutcliffe.

Read his stuff closely and see if you get the "I really want to the UT AD" feel from it I got.

UT would be smart to do that. They should fire Hamilton just because he was actually stupid enough to hire Kiffin. A few years down the road, USC fans are going to wonder why the fuck they thought hiring Kiffin was such a good idea. Both ADs should be fired for hiring this clown, IMO.

Another name that has emerged for the UT HC job is Derek Dooley of La Tech. I'm not so sure that you want to make him a coach in the SEC when he isn't exactly doing wonders for La Tech. He would probably do well recruiting, but the UT fans would need to realize that he is probably going to be their Shula if he is hired.

And, as predicted, Cowherd is totally slobbing Kiffin's knob. He is now flaming Petrino and Saban for what they did.

Go back to the start of the season and every Bama fan I knew had La. Tech whipping Auburn's ass.
