Slow down whilst in Georgia

FYI for those that travel through the state, or live here...we got a new ghey ass "Super Speeder Law".

WHAT ARE THE SPEEDING THRESHOLDS FOR SUPER SPEEDER?
•Super Speeder fees apply to motorists convicted of speeding seventy-five-or-more on two-lane roads, or speeding 85-and-over on any roads in Georgia.

WHEN DOES THE NEW STATE LAW GO INTO EFFECT?
•Georgia’s new ‘Super Speeder’ Law takes effect January 1st, 2010.

HOW MUCH ARE STATE SUPER SPEEDER FEES?
•The State of Georgia will now collect a $200.00 state fee each time a driver is convicted of a Super Speeder speeding offense.

IS THE STATE SUPER SPEEDER FEE AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY?
•Yes. The new law says Super Speeder fees are to be collected by the state in addition to any other fines or penalties imposed by the local jurisdictions where speeding tickets are issued.  It is now the motorist’s responsibility to pay both local the fine imposed for the speeding convictions and the Super Speeder fee.

I'm gonna have to modify my driving habits on the interstate.

Whats ghey about it? Ive known a few people killed in superspeed accidents. Accidents at those speeds are almost always deadly. I have no issue with the law. People drive like bats out of hell these days - always in a f'ing hurry. Its pretty much just reckless driving but with a lower qualification to get caught.

It does have it's protective purpose...but it amounts to being a pain in the ass as well. I never drive slower than 80 on the interstate.

My opinion?  The money collected from this goes towards the State's General Fund.  Why not focus efforts/penalizations elsewhere (ie increasing fines for other misdemeanors, etc.), other than getting speeders, to add to this pot?  I believe it will be a wasted effort.

The 75 mph limit on 2 lane roads make sense.  The issue I have is with the 85 mph limit on the interstates.  The jury is still out, but I highly doubt that this will curb the behavior of chronic speeders.  If you are doing 85 mph on the interstate here in Atlanta, relatively speaking, you are typically going faster then some but still slower then others.  The reckless driving laws were sufficient enought, already.

I think they should invest in more K9 units to bust people who smoke pot in their cars.

I was recently (very recently) stopped in Habersham County, Georgia whilst driving 94 in a 45 speed zone.  Luckily for me, I had some merchandise in the back that needed to be over-nighted.  

For the record, the reason for 94 is because the vehicle won't go any faster.

Sorry, but being ABLE to go 74 on a two lane road with nothing more than a speeding ticket is plenty fair to a driver. I usually go about 80 on the Interstate and I find it plenty fast to get where I need to go. There is reason for the law. There have been some horrific crashes the last couple of yrs at these speeds up here on I85 near Lagrange/West Point , near the Alabama line.
