Jimmy Clausen To The NFL Draft
« on: December 07, 2009, 11:31:06 AM »
He will forgo his senior season and enter the draft. He is doing so on the advice of Charlie Weis. I mean, shit, the kid can't do much worse with a new coach. Why not go ahead and get another year's experience in? Looks like Weis is trying to stick it to the Irish a little.

No, this isn't about sticking it to the Irish.

Jimmy Clausen had a good year statistically and doesn't want to have another offense to learn next year without getting paid for it. Look at the QB class coming out and you'll also see why now is the time for him to go. Strike while the iron is hot. It's the cautionary tale of Matt Leinart and Sam Bradford.

Yep!  Perzactly!  And he's the prototypical NFL QB...all the physical tools, and played in a pro-style offense in college.  He'll go early.

And fail spectacularly.

The guy had some sick stats this year and he's basically had the reigns since coming in, so another year's experience won't matter much either way.

I agree with your feeling. Size is a problem for him.  He's allegedly 6-3, but I'm not buying it.

Biggest problem?  He looks like a punk ass bitch.

He will be a flop like Matt Leinart and Brady Quinn -- both of whom are better QBs than he is.

Ding, Ding, Ding...I knew that he and Golden Tate were leaving early.  They both had great Junior seasons.  BTW, whoever lands the ND job will have A LOT of work to do on the offensive side of the ball....Defensive side of the ball?  Not so much, except for replacing both Safeties and a few key backups.

Kind of along the same lines I was thinking. This is why I was saying he should get the extra year of experience in the college game. Other than stats, what makes this kid so great?

Look at Graham Harrell. Insane stats, and came in 4th in the Heisman race in 2008. 15,793 career yards and 134 career TDs. 5,111 yards and 45 TDs his last season with a 160 QB rating for the year. His ass is in the CFL right now.

Clausen has 8,148 career yards and 60 career TDs, playing the same amount of years as Harrell. This season he has 3,722 yards and 28 TDs with a passer rating of 161. I just don't see what is so special about the kid. The NFL doesn't draft on stats.

Yeah, he's not going to be a good NFL QB because he looks like a punk ass bitch.

Name one successful and notable quarterbacks in the NFL that declared for the draft their junior year.

I'll hang up and listen.

If you do find one, name two.

I'll hang up and listen.

Clausen's hype far exceeded his actual ability.

But I would have taken Ryan Leaf over Peyton if I'd been drafting back in the day.  Leaf had more raw talent.

Leaf had more talent.  Leinart had talent, and he looked like a sure thing.

Aaron Rodgers is the only quarterback I can think of that declared early and has had success in the NFL.  Although, he sat behind Brett Favre for a few years, and he's not really a great QB right now.

Rodgers' problems are his lack of a solid offensive line and a running game. There's nothing wrong with his game. He's one of the top QBs in the league.

Define "top."  I think I could name five better:

Favre
Brady
Manning
Brees
Ryan

Rodgers is good, but he's still only one who declared early to have success in the NFL.  Odds are against Clausen leaving school a year early.
