While the payouts are hugely different from the top bowls to the bottom, it is my understanding that the SEC takes all the revenue generated form all the bowls and split it with all SEC teams not on Probation.
Therefore the payoff for AU for one bowl vs another does not really matter.
Now all the give a way poop they give to the players is a whole nother matter. Yhe bigger bowls treat the players much much better!!
If things have not changed, this is not entirely accurate.
For the lesser Bowls (750,000 or less), the school will generally spend all of the bowl money on the trip in the form of "expenses".
For the larger payouts, the Conference gets what is left over. I believe the SEC does have a "gentlemen's agreement" in place to prevent the BCS bowl participant from spending the entire 17 mil......ie....it used to be that a team could spend
up to $2.5-3 mil on "expenses" per bowl game.
The players do get nicer things from the larger payout bowl games. The larger the payout, the more "wining and dining" the University can do for the "Official Traveling Party" (which will be a larger group of people staying for a longer period of time on the University's dime for the bigger bowls)
Again, if the arrangement has changed with the Office (I have not heard that it has), then this is incorrect.
