Seriously, what's the cost of a black helicopter?

Whites paid more than blacks at Auburn

By Press-Register staff
November 18, 2009, 8:07AM

AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn University is reviewing complaints by a group of employees alleging they are paid less than co-workers of a different race who perform the same job, the Opelika-Auburn News reports.
Mike Clardy, director of university communications, told the News that the university is working with the employees to resolve the issue.
Auburn City Council member Arthur L. Dowdell, however, said the university has reacted too slowly and he plans a news conference early next week to highlight the issue.
Dowdell said the group of about 8 black employees who do custodial work filed complaints with the university and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission office in Birmingham in early October.

They are state workers. Let the state handle this problem. If they think they are getting the short end of the stick then look at the educational backgrounds of all of the employees in that custodial field. If they haven't put their time in then that'll keep them for advancing in pay grade too. Bottomline, they want more $$$ for cleaning up. Good luck.

Custodial workers? Seriously?

So there's a great inequity between the salaries of different custodial workers?

Aren't they all making pretty much minimum wage?

You may recall that Arthur Dowdell is the Auburn City Councilman who pulled the Confederate Flags from the graves of Confederate soldiers about 6 months ago in Auburn.  The flags were placed there by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Sons of Confederate Veterans in honor of Confederate Memorial Day.  He later apologized for what he did but still admitted that he didn't feel bad for his actions, despite accusations of him snapping the sticks of the flags in two while standing on the graves of these soldiers.  He claimed that the flags were representative of the KKK.  He's nothing more than a sensationalist piece of shit who loves to abuse his power...under the guise of furthering civil rights.

Auburn football receives D on minority hiring report card
By Jon Solomon -- The Birmingham News
November 18, 2009, 10:50AM

The Black Coaches & Administrators today gave Auburn passing marks in four of five categories for their hiring last year of Gene Chizik, but an F in affirmative action left the university with an overall grade of a D. This is the sixth year of the BCA's report card, which is designed to get more minorities hired as college football head coaches.

Auburn's search process generated national discussion about race when Chizik was hired over Buffalo coach Turner Gill, who is black. Chizik is 7-4 in his first season; Gill is 3-7 at Buffalo. These were Auburn's BCA grades by category:

Time Frame: B. The BCA says this means Auburn's search and hiring process lasted between six and 13 days. The BCA believes a longer hiring process allows more qualified candidates to apply.

Communication: A. This means Auburn had at least two communications with the executive director of the BCA and/or the chair of the NCAA Minority Opportunity Interests Committee.

Candidate: B. This means that between 20 percent and 29 percent of the candidates Auburn interviewed are minorities.

Search Committee: B. This means that between 20 percent and 29 percent of Auburn's hiring/search committee are minorities.

Affirmative Action: F. This means Auburn provided no documentation of its affirmative action policies and procedures to the BCA. Dr. Keith Harrison, director of the Paul Robeson Research Center and who analyzes the data for the BCA grades, said universities receive examples of what grades look like for the affirmative action category. "In order to receive an A, there has to be signatures at every level and affirmative action officers have to be involved in every step of the way," Harrison said. "If you look at the data over the years, not as many schools get an A because they say they have policies, but it doesn't get done. So there has to be signatures along the way that they follow the policies. If they don't send us that, we have no evidence they're following affirmative action policies."

Final Grade: D. Auburn received a total of 12 points out of a possible 20.

Overall Grades for Division I-A Coaching Hires in 2008

A grades: Army, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, Miami of Ohio, New Mexico State, San Diego State, Syracuse, New Mexico

B grades: Boston College, Bowling Green, Toledo, Washington

C grades: Clemson, Tennessee, Utah State

D grades: Auburn, Mississippi State, Purdue

F grades: Ball State, Kansas State, Oregon, Wyoming

There are more minority coaches in Division I-A football this season than ever before:

    * Seven African-Americans: Buffalo's Turner Gill, Eastern Michigan's Ron English, Houston's Kevin Sumlin, Miami of Florida's Randy Shannon, Miami of Ohio's Mike Haywood, New Mexico's Mike Locksley, and New Mexico State's DeWayne Walker
    * One Latino: Florida Internationa's Mario Cristobal
    * One Polynesian: Navy's Ken Niumatalolo

There are no black head coaches in the SEC, Big Ten, Pac-10, Big 12 or Big East. The Pac-10, SEC and Big East each lost a black head coach after last season. In Division I-A, 46 percent of the football players are black and 7.5 percent of the head coaches are black.

About 24 percent of the Division I-A men's basketball coaches are black. Former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy has recently expressed interrest in speaking to directly to NCAA leaders and presidents to address the hiring concerns in football.

"I think the frustration everyone has is, why can't this get done? Why is football so unique?" said Floyd Keith, BCA executive director. "The moment that we stop making noise and putting this out there, that's when we as advocates aren't doing what we need to do. So we keep pushing, and unfortunately it takes these high-profile efforts or high-profile train wrecks to make the difference."

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has the same overall winning percentage in his fifth year as former Fighting Irish coach Tyrone Willingham, who is black, had in three years before being fired. "I feel really sad for Tyrone," Keith said.

I'd be curious to see these clowns "grade" Nebraska, Syracuse....or for that matter, any other school.  This is bullshit.

Ultimately in the end, it won't effect shit.   Just another really smelly fart from the ass of North Central Alabama.

Everyone?  Really?

The frustration I have is with FUCKING RACISTS who insist that schools must consider candidates of a particular ethnicity.

Fuck you, Floyd Keith.  You are a racist.

Fuck a scorecard. If you hire the best candidates, the rest will take care of itself. If the best candidates are never black, then that sounds like a problem black people need to address internally to "make" themselves better candidates. If you don't get a education, learn how to articulate, construct a resume, learn how to communicate and have the will to want to better yourself - then thats not my problem Jack!

And Kaos, there are no black helicopters here. This is plain as day. Conspiracies are at least semi-private and not known to the masses.  I heard Evian Woodberry on Sportscall last night talking about the Eric Smith lawsuit. I can't believe people don't see right through these "journalists". This is all planned. Its all part of the state wide push to try and destroy Auburn. Been happening for years. Dye and Tubs evened the playing field somewhat but now apparently there is hell to pay for us dumb ole Barners. Lets just say Woodberry is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

It's the nature of the situation when one school has been crapping all over themselves for a decade, that THAT school has to manufacture something about the other school to try and even it up a little.

Most intelligent people see right through it.

This isn't about job performance.  It's about equality.  Those guys deserve a chance to prove they shouldn't be a head coach.
