History not on our side.
« on: November 16, 2009, 05:15:20 PM »
People like to say in a rivalry game you can "throw out the records".

I knew that wasn't really true in our rivalry with Alabama....the higher ranked team has typically taken care of business, and particularly so when the other team is not ranked at all.

But I thought I'd add some numbers to it to see what we're up against.

Since 1948.

UN-ranked Auburn vs Ranked Alabama (21 games)
Auburn is 1- 20  :jaw: (the one win coming in 2002 against #9 Alabama)

UN-ranked Auburn vs UN-ranked Alabama (7 games)
Auburn is 4-3

Ranked Auburn vs UN-ranked Alabama (16 games)
Auburn is 11-5

Ranked Auburn vs Ranked Alabama (17 games)
Auburn is 10-8

As you can see, Auburn leads in every combination except when we are unranked and facing a ranked Alabama team.

If both teams are ranked, or both teams are unranked, or if Auburn is ranked and Alabama is not, Auburn leads 25-16 all-time.  It's those damn 21 games where Alabama faced an unranked Auburn team that aren't so pretty.  1-20 is not a good indication of what may happen in two weeks.

HOWEVER....when unranked, we are 1-1 since 2000 against ranked Alabama teams.  So based on that, I give us a 50/50 chance of winning while I'm eating left over turkey.

Classic.

Well now you can give numbers and explain how Auburn is 10-8 vs Alabama when both teams are ranked and 4-3 when both teams are unranked.

Then hit them with one of these  :fu:  or these  :moon:

I hope Nick Saban drowns on Ben Tate's tears after we win.

Then again, I want to have a 20 inch penis, but I have to settle with 16.

21-1.  That's actually impressive for Bama.  Not that I'm exactly PROUD of that stat, but they don't "choke" on the rivalry gig.

I have a feeling Nick Saban is going to come out with a fucking lead pipe against his team at halftime if they don't show up strong and fast at the first part of the game.

Oh well.  It'll be one more chance for funnel cakes before the season is over.

I don't have the numbers in front of me anymore, but don't forget about Bryant's run against everyone, not just Auburn.  Of those 21 games, a majority were in the 60s and 70s.

How many of those came under Bryant, though?  Ten or 11?

I guess in the grand scheme of things, taking one 20" penis must be better than being prison raped by sixteen 20" penises, but I still think that I'd go with no 20" penises. Queer.

Also do we know how many of the 21 were in Birmingham and how many were in our actual home stadium in Auburn?

Something I didn't think about is, Alabama gets 4 days to prepare for AU. We play UTC Saturday, will have a day off on Sunday, then practice Monday-Thursday. I don't like that, and I certainly don't like that Malzahn has 2 weeks to try to outscheme us. I really don't think AU has the players to out play our guys, but I certainly think we can be outschemed to an extent. Utah sure as hell proved that. Unless Alabama comes out playing totally lights out from the first snap, I think this will be a competitive game. I don't think it will be like last season. I hope it will be, but I have a weird feeling about it.

Technically, if you look in the thread the day after the Ole Miss game where AU was again ranked, I had said that I guess since you guys were ranked again they would shit the bed against UGA. I said it jokingly, as I really didn't see UGA's defense stopping AU's offense. So, later in the week I made the logical choice. And if you look at UGA, AU was certainly the logical choice in that matchup.

For all you know, it could be your bretheren jinxing UA to a 10-0 start. Pretty much every week they pick us to get upset in the upset prediction threads.

Technically, if you look in the thread the day after the Ole Miss game where AU was again ranked, I had said that I guess since you guys were ranked again they would poop the bed against UGA. I said it jokingly, as I really didn't see UGA's defense stopping AU's offense. So, later in the week I made the logical choice. Well then, I think Auburn would be better off if just all picked bama to win. Really, Im not big on all the jinx stuff but its fun for conversation. Honestly, looking at this game, bama should beat the poop out of Auburn, that is depending on which Auburn team shows up. Who knows which it will be. I do have a better than some outlook on this game for Auburn which has me feeling like it will be a very interesting game. Malzahn does have a little extra time to prepare, and the team has some extra time to rest. Will this calculate to success on the field, who knows. bama has a very solid D. I seen where you said the same and I agree, if I were Malzahn I would take a few looks at the Sugar Bowl last year.

Typical bammer math. The same algorithm that calculates us to 1/2 a national championship, yet you guys to 12.

So we both played this Saturday. We both play next Friday. However, we have 2 weeks (14 days), and you have 4 days?

How many of those came under Bryant, though?  Ten or 11?

Bryant's teams accounted for 13 of those 20 wins: 1961, 62, 64-67, 73, 75-78, 80, and 81.

For Auburn, Shug's teams accounted for 6 of the Auburn wins (ranked AU beating unranked UA): 1954, 55, 57, 58, 69, and 70.  Tuberville had 4 of them: 2000, 01, 04, 06, 07.

Interesting, Dye's ranked Auburn teams were 0-3 against unranked Alabama teams, but 5-0 when both teams were ranked and 1-0 when both teams were unranked.

"Auburn only beats us when we're down"...makes Dye laugh.

What the fuck are you talking about?

AU has a bye week this week, we do not. We play a game. We are prepping for UTC this week. We will not start Auburn week until Monday. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Thats 4 days.

AU technically has 12 days to prepare. The gap between the UGA game and Iron Bowl is 13 days. I didn't know I had to get all technical. Do I need to start breaking it down by minutes or something?
