I trust Chizik's judgment. He seems to be a bit more cool-headed than most of the HC out there, unlike some unnamed rivals HC.

Are you aware just how badly your post reflects on both Auburn and Chizik?

You are making the same arguments against Malzahn being ready that I made (and was blasted for) in reference to Chizik's readiness?

Chizik knows defense? Not as a HC he doesn't. ISU was horrific. AU is merely abysmal. How many godawful defenses does he have to preside over as HC before we can safely remove the "defensive genius" label? 

We are at three and counting. How many "great" defEnses did he run as DC? two?

Unbelivable.

You know I wouldn't have chosen Chizik...but he's the coach. I knew the defense would be horrible this year, and you did too, HC be damned.  NOBODY could have taken this bag of scrubs we have and done anything with them.  And I NEVER blasted you about Chizik's readiness, and you know it.  We agreed on it...only difference is...I was willing to wait and see, mainly because I had no choice in the matter.  If I had, Chizik would still be at ISU. 

That said, had Chizik been hired at AU right after the TX Nat. Championship, and his 2004 season at AU, we all know it would have been the greatest hire in modern history to most Auburn fans.

You kind of side stepped the question.  Your last two sentences touch on what I was looking for.  Is Chizik good enough to roll with the punches?  Can he handle making splash hires like Malzahn every time a coordinator and/or assistant coach leaves? 

I'm really curious what this board thinks. 

I think Chizik has done a great job getting these assistants, and they're doing a hell of a job in recruiting.  With that said, I don't know if Chizik can survive without Malzahn.  I'm not sure we would have won more than 4 games without him. 

If Malzahn leaves this season, and it is a possibility, then we may be in trouble.  I'm not so sure Chizik will have another splash hire left to keep the train rolling. 

Didn't intend to sidestep, thought there were several questions I addressed. 

The question you asked here, again?  Well, we can only hope...fact is this, if Chiz has to hire great OCs every year or 2 because the one he last hired set the world on fire for a year or two and got a sweet gig...two things are certain...Auburn will win a buttload of games, until one of these "hotshot hires" finally crashes and burns a la Franklin.  At which point, no matter what happens in the interim, Chiz will only be evaluated on his last handful of games.  At this point in the world we live in, coaches don't even seem to get a season to prove themselves, or a hiccup season among a bunch of good ones.  Lose 3 in a row, and you're on the hotseat.  Miss a bowl, and you're likely fired...if not this year, surely next.  Tubs made some good hires, a bad decison or two, and finally a monumental blunder.  Many, if not a great deal of Auburn folks seem to only recall 1999, 2008, and a couple of losses to Ark when they think of Tubs.  Think Chizik will be treated as fairly?  Doubt it...he's not earned it, and likely, IMO, won't be here long enough to get the chance.

So each year's team is a separate entity unto itself, leaving the HC liable for criticism on the merits of one year's performance?

Malzahn is the best thing to happen for Auburn EVER!  Losing Malzahn so soon (within 2 years) would render AU a bottom rung staple in the SEC and barely mentionable among the BCS schools. He makes AU a player nationally.

Malzahn is the innovative coordinator that AU has refused for so long. He will throw at will when the personnel is present. We have already seen what he is capable of with the current skill players on roster. We need more bulky talent up front too. 

The Georgia game is as important to Auburn as far as recruiting than the Alabama game because the kids know where they are going, they just like to milk it for what it's worth. Not so with Georgia.

Three years of Malzahn could put Auburn in the yearly hunt for the NC assuming the defense gets Auburnlike the way they were midway through Tubs' tenure. I look for more of the same without Malzahn.  Give him the ranch and everything around it. I think he stays anyway but that's just the biased fan in me. Why go elsewhere?
