Anyone ever eaten at Highlands Bar and Grill?  Or Hot and Hot Fish Club?

I understand these places are expensives as hell, but I'm getting some ideas ready for my first anniversary.

Hot and Hot is the tits.  Make sure you get a reservation at the cooks counter so you can see all the chefs do their thing.  Me and the wife try to go a couple times a year, it is well worth the price.

Tell your waitress it is your anniverary and they often treat you to a free desert (not really free considering the tab you will walk out with)

First anny?  You gotta start small, or you leave yourself nowhere to go.

Seriously.  Jack in the Box, two days late, is the way to go.

Highlands is a favorite of my family, but we've never tried Hot and Hot, so I can't compare them for you.  If you want to try a place that is on par food wise but (i think) may be a little less expensive, you might consider looking at Veranda on Highland (I'm not 100% sure on it being cheaper).  I liked the atmosphere there a lot, and we got to talk to the chef a couple of times as he wandered around, which I like.

Highlands is a great place to go.  I have never been to Hot and Hot, but I keep hearing great things about it.  If you want upscale, let me recommend Icon.  It's in the Tutweiler, so you could either enjoy the beautiful old architecture or get a room quickly after dinner.  It's a win either way.

And, if she promises you oral, take her to Wendy's for a nice Frosty dessert.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Between these two, I'd go with Hot and Hot.  I've eaten at the Highlands a few times and it has never lived up to the hype for me.  There are some other cool restaurants in 5 Points that you could take her:

Ocean
Bottegga
Chez Fon Fon

If she likes Italian, you could take her to Gian Marco's in Homewood - by far my favorite Italian restaurant in Birmingham.

Or you could drive her by all of these places and then take her to the Ruby Tuesday's in 5 Points.  I hear they have some killer burgers!

I'm coming up on #10, and it's looking like the Golden Corral.  I've heard their bottom round steaks are to die for.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Yeah, but not too many trips though.  You don't want to encourage weight gain.
