Did you know?
« on: October 06, 2009, 09:51:44 PM »
Did you know that water is the study of people, places, and earth?  Neither did I.  Apparently, my 8 year old believed that to be the correct answer on his science test.

The kid's been an "A" honor roll student since he's been in school.  Normally, I would just shrug it off as an answer he got wrong.  He still made an 87 on his test....but for some reason, I can't stop thinking about this one answer.

I'm thinking of dumping a gallon of water on him tonight after he goes to sleep, and ask him if it was people, places, and earth that woke him up.

Dude, I have a 9 year old who just cried in his mama's arms while I laughed uncontrolably after the Michael Jackson ghost video.  Kids are very unpredictable.

No.  He got ridiculed heavily, by me, for the dumbest answer to a question that I've ever seen.

_________ is the study of people, places and earth.

How does one, even a little one, come to the conclusion that the answer is water?  I think I may be developing an aneurysm.

I had that question one time on a Physiology Final.

I said "Brown".

Understandable.

Ask my nine-year old what seven times four is and you'll get uhhhh Eleven? No, 100. No, is it 63? 16? 69? 35? Did you say minus?

Ask her to explain the concept of socialism or discuss forensic pathology or expound on the various types of horses and she's like a rocket surgeon, though.

She's in fourth grade.  The dumbass librarian lets them pick books based on their reading level. She reads at a tenth grade level. Brought home a book she thought was about horses. It was about slave trade.  She finally asked me to read it to her because it was depressing her.  It was full of profanity.  The part I read was about the people on the boat bringing the slaves over and fucking all the women on the way.  And tossing babies over the side if they cried.  Fuck.  She made it halfway through that book before she finally just had enough and turned it over to dad.

Librarian gets that book bounced off her head.

It's just part of it.

I'm thinking of dumping a gallon of water on him tonight after he goes to sleep, and ask him if it was people, places, and earth that woke him up.

The reason he had that answer was because he has ADD.  And ADHD.

And he's LD with a bit of ODD at times.  Don't worry though; at least he's not Autistic.  He just has Asbergers, so please refrain from telling him any jokes.

We're going to put him in BBSST before developing a 504 plan.  Once we've gotten through that and proven that it's not his fault he said "water is the study of people, places and earth," we'll enroll him in Inclusion courses.

He'll still develop socially, or at least, he'll try to.  We'll keep him in a class with 25 other children who don't have your kids' issues.  But there's one catch - they're all known to be low level readers and they often have behavior issues.  In fact, most of them need a BBSST recommendation.

He'll have his own personal aide.  He/she'll be a certified teacher who was once qualified to have their own classroom, but now they are thought of as only a special helper.  He'll get to be with this aide during a resource period where he gets to do all of his homework and go over the answers to the test BEFORE he takes it.

When he takes a test, the answer choices will be shortened.  In fact, we won't even put water on the test because he's been considered ED ever since the incident with "water" occurred.

Good luck because when he gets done with 12th grade, he won't have a high school diploma.  He'll have a certificate of participation.  You'll probably have to figure out something to do with him then because, hey, we don't give a shit once they leave.

At least he wasn't left behind!!!   :vn:

I'm not sure what all of that means, but I can tell you this.  The next time he answers a question without reading it, (there's only one more answer in the word bank, so that must be it) he'll be left behind because he won't be able to walk.

It was humor.

But not one bit of it was false.  In fact, if your (Argo) son's teacher notices a string of answers like that on tests, she might begin the process.

Because it can't be the kids' fault anymore.
