To Turner Gill's credit, he never says that he thought race or the interracial marriage had anything to do with not getting the Auburn job.  He has taken the high road.  It's the reporter and the Buffalo AD that are making the most out of the racial aspect.

I heard it through my hangover Sunday morning. I felt too bad to give a shit really. If Chizik was 1-4 like Gill is, they my have a point. Now they just look foolish for bringing it back up.

Anyone check out the preseason mags and the usual articles on the coaching carousel?  Mucho turnover this year again.  Turner Gill didn't get the Auburn job...or the UT job...or the Ole Miss job...or the Syracuse job...or the...

If he was really the big ticket, hot, up and coming coach..why wasn't he nabbed by anyone else?  I would have been thrilled if we did hire him.  I was like a lot of others who thought his hiring would have been the "Splash" we were looking to make.  It had nothing to do with color and everything to do with turning a pathetic program into a winner.  Could it be that they actually interviewed the guy and he just didn't impress or say the things they wanted to hear?

Very true.  Coach Gill was very, VERY classy about how he handled it.

It was the overall tone and accusations that they kept tossing around throughout the REST of the video/article that was just reckless.

Turner seems like a classy guy.  It does make Auburn look like 1960's Birmingham.  Side note, I haven't seen Tom Osborne in years and he looks like he is on his deathbed.

Twenty one fucking schools changed coaches when Gill was up for hire. Why is Auburn the ONLY school that had to be racist if they didn't hire him? As everyone mentioned, he's the only one (I think) that is undefeated. Also the only one (I think) that is currently ranked.

The timing of this story makes them look even dumber than they would already.

Well, the thing is, a lot of people already think "the south is racist."  They don't MENTION in the whole thing that Gene is 5-0 and on a roll with a program that was supposed to blow royal dick.

Honestly, the whole thing (especially that son of a bitch Barkley running his suck) only served to hurt black coaches. I mean what school is going to want to interview them just to subsequently get raked over the coals if they don't hire them?

Oregon is ranked....but your point still stands.  Regarding Oregon, I think they're the first University to have the Head Coach in waiting, take off the "in waiting" title.

The only way that can work is if they know for a fact the coach will be leaving in 1-3 years. They would have to write that in the new coach's contract.
