Call It A Love Letter If You Want...
« on: October 04, 2009, 06:06:04 PM »
You may now consider me a "Chizdick-sucking loon". I won't even care. He and his staff are getting it done.

I know, I know, we're not even half way through the season yet.

I'm just saying. Chizik has taken a team that EVERYONE thought would struggle to win five games this year, and he's done it in his first five he's played. A friend of mine already won his $200 bet with a bammer as early as chronologically possible that Auburn would win more than 4 games this year. Chizik's already matched last year's wins, so all logic points to him improving on Tubs's last year by the time we're done. Not regress as most predicted. Chizik's five wins in two years at Iowa State that was supposed to be so indicative of his failure here, has already been doubled, again in the first five games played in the season. I remember during the offseason, the JOX hosts going down the schedule, naming the team we faced, chuckling and saying "L" after all but Furman, and maybe Ball State. Look where we are now.

I know we've got a long way to go, but consider this: Alabama was 6-6 (actually 2-6 according to the record books) in Saban's first year, and he's supposedly a God amongst men. He had two losses by this point in the season. So EVEN IF we only pull out two more games (say to Kentucky & Furman), Chizik's already ahead of Saban.

Look at the other two hires in the SEC. Most laughed and said Chizik was the clear worst choice of the three. If only we could have gotten a winner like Kiffen. Who's laughing now?

And RWS, please keep this line in your sig. I look forward to Prowler asking you how shit tastes.

From the New York Times:

http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/04/the-sunday-roundup-can-we-see-clearly-now/\

Quote
Everybody Loves the Hire Now

Remember when Auburn hired Gene Chizik? The criticism came from far and wide, touching on everything from Chizik’s subpar record at Iowa State to Auburn’s failure to hire Turner Gill, who is African-American.

Well, the Tigers are 5-0 and ranked No. 17 after a victory over Tennessee and the superlatives for Chizik are starting to roll in. Kevin Scarbinsky of The Birmingham News writes of Chizik that “he’s been a leader, and Auburn is a loser no more.”

Chizik and the Tigers will soon find out just how good they are. They still have L.S.U., Mississippi, Georgia and, of course, Alabama left on their schedule.

He wasn't even talking to me when he made that quote, but ok. I'll spot him two games and say he won that one. FWIW, there were alot of people who thought this thing was going to be a little fucked up. Its not like you said differently due to superior football knowledge, just a blind leap.

Even we only beat Kentucky, we're still 6-1 or 7-0.

Chalk it up to whatever makes you feel good. I didn't even predict this kind of success. Go back. My only stance has been to leave the pistol in the drawer until we actually start the season. I never said there was zero chance of a losing season. I never said we'd be world beaters. Only that the doom and gloom is not a forgone conclusion. I gradually began seeing things that led me to believe Chizik was not the utter failure he was being pigeonholed as. Which brings us to this point, and the purpose of this thread. At this point, I have finally reached the level of confidence in the 2009 Auburn team, the staff, and the head coach, to match the words you have been putting in my mouth since Chizik was hired.

I can now say with zero sarcasm and full pride that the Chizik era is here, and that I am very, very excited about it.

My only criticism of your love letter.  If you are so sure of this staff, why was there a need to compare Chiz to Saban?

Damn Straight....I know that Auburn will lose some games this year.  But, I might be changing my initial prediction of (8-4) to (9-3) or (10-2).

I like how no one mentions us. Really.

I'll mention Arky.  I was far more scared of Arkansas out of the next two games than I was Tennessee.  For da' life of me, I couldn't figure out why UT was favored.  I thought we would handle their power rushing game far better than all the misdirection and dink doo shit we've faced the first 4 games.  Arkansaw, on the other hand, scares the bejeezus out of me and it looked like they got their shit together last night.

Like many have said, Auburn will have to put 40 on the board to win this game.  Everyone worries about our depth on defense.  Why?  Hasn't been a problem so far and would only become a problem if we get some guys injured. (McFadden made me crap my pants last night) I'm far more worried about Ted Roof and his ability to scheme defensively to stop people.  No excuse for last night.  None.  Crompton can't even make a fucking handoff if someone is in his face and we continued to rush 4 over and over and over.

Watch Bama when they face the Viles.  He will be blitzed until he fucking cries.
