The Anniversary Poll
« on: October 03, 2009, 07:49:02 AM »
20th Anniversary coming up soon.  Going to take a trip.  Unfortunately the nine-year old has to go with us, but after 20 years it doesn't too much make a fuck.

Choices thus far are:

Week in New York, activities include attending Broadway show(s), Christmas shopping at FAO and the other places you see in movies, ice skating, etc...

Disney Cruise, activities including riding on a boat.

Week in Cancun/Cozumel or some blasted hot place like that.

Week at Sandals. Seems like a non-kid place.  Or maybe Atlantis in Bahamas.  Also seems less kidish.

Mediterranean Cruise.

Suggestions are welcome.

You need an "other" category...  Check out the Beaches resorts for "kid-friendly".  Atlantis is also more "kid-friendly" than you'd think with the water slides and pools.  That may be the solution for the family.

with the 9yo kid around, there won't be much time for the anniversary pole, but you can get a good deal in Orlando (Universal or Disney)

looking at your choices, new york stands out like a sore thumb for the fact it isn't a warm weather destination. i would eliminate that one.  i've done a similar trip many years ago.  fun but cold.

okay...if your willing to go on a mediterranean cruise then your willing to fork over some money.  with that said, i would suggest new zealand or fiji.

Yeah.  Money's no object.

Australia might be an option, now that you mention it.

I think Sandals is only for adults.  I'm pretty sure when I booked a room there they said no kids allowed.

Ok.  I will delete the thread.  Or maybe post some shots of my sunglasses.  Whichever works.

I just don't know what to do and was hoping there might be people who'd been to some of those places before.

We've done Cancun. We've done Italy.  I've done Australia.  I was thinking NY because although I've been there numerous times my wife hasn't ever gone with me.

I've always wanted to take my family to NY in the month of Dec to do some of the things you are talking about.  I think it would be a lot of fun.

The Radio City Christmas Show is fabulous.  The msot expensive tickets are up front, but the best seats are in the balcony - hard to appreciate the precision of the Rockettes and the Tin Soldier routine from right up front.

FAO is a wonderful place any time of year.

The Christmas tree is amazing.  And it is very nice to be somewhere cold at Christmastime.

I initially voted for the Disney Cruise so the 9 year old would have fun too...but after reading some of the other replies, I would change my vote to NYC.  I have never been there in the autumn/winter months, but would love to make that trip sometime soon.

Only thing holding me back?  The tree won't be lit.  That's a major draw...

Would a 9 yr old remember a big cold city with a lot of people, or a cool boat with lots of kids and things to do. And also, how can a kid get lost on a ship, other than the overboard thing? And if I am not mistaken, Disney sails to their own island.

So with all that in mind. Go to NYC. It's your anniversary. Not the kid's. (But remember. An unhappy kid with no room to send them to is a pain in the arse.)

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

He may prefer the view from the front row during the high kicks, not to mention the wafting aroma of three dozen sweaty 5'-8" girls......

My little one is pushing for NYC.  She's been with me twice.  Loves it. Wants to see Phantom on Broadway and Wicked if we can do both.

I think she'd adore the Disney cruise, but she's in that middle age where she wants to know if she gets to hang with Selena Gomez or Mickey Mouse.   If it were Selena Gomez, I might want to do the Disney cruise too.
